“Very nice hotel”
Reviewed 31 May 2014

The hotel was elegant. The service was very good, but ridiculously expensive. We asked for ice because they didnt have any available and we were charged 5 euros for them bringing us a bucket of ice. The rooms are not very comfortable and the bathroom has a drop down shade that you can see out at night so we wondered if anyone was seeing in. We did not eat at the restaurant because they limit Platinum guests to continental breakfast only, so we took our food business elsewhere. The location is good for using the metro and the hop on hop off blue line stops one block away across the street. Taxi drivers have no idea where this hotel is. Twice we had to guide the driver and our arrival cab fare was almost double because the guy kept going around. Not sure I would stay here again. Marriott needs to offer better hotels in Europe.

The hotel is very well located. Elegant, stylish and understated. The service is amazing, the rooms are very well appointed. Its got style. Last week ( per the guest book) Nadal stayed here. the hotel staff is very discrete and dont talk of the celebraties that stay with them. The night manager was very friendly and suggested a good bar close by and spoke perfect English. Very well run hotel and the best location in Madrid.

Room Tip: All rooms are good. Being an old palace all rooms may not be the same.

My wife and I arrived late Saturday night at the hotel after a cancelled flight and re routing of our connecting flight to Madrid. We were welcomed warmly by the hotel staff and upgraded to the Presidential suite! A grand former library reworked into a bedroom and living room suite.
The hotel recommended a nearby wine bar (Alabaster) for a light late dinner that was perfect.
The hotel's location near the Retiro Park was perfect for our Sunday plans.

This hotel is perfect for vacation travel being located on a main road within walking distance to many sites. We were also near a metro and bus stop. The staff here were so friendly and helpful. We were walked to our room and given a tour of where the restaurant was located while receiving a brief history of the building (it was at one time a private residence).
My husband and I enjoyed our stay here and will definitely come back. Large comfortable rooms, free wifi and continental breakfast.

Very classic old building across from Madrid Park. Very nice and simple lobby. Staff was great and very accommodating. Room was large with high ceilings and large, clean bathrooms. Bed was very comfortable. It's a treat to go to a hotel and not see the minibar price gouging, the mini bar prices were excellent (i.e. beer 3.50 Euro). Very nice breakfast, good assortments offered. My main complaint is that this property is a beautiful old building cut the rooms are Euro modern and just didn't seem to fit in with what I had expected, but that's a personal dislike of this decades modern hotel furnishings. Otherwise, this is a fine hotel and I would recommend others to stay here, as i would book a room here again. A plus is that it is a few blocks fro the fabulous Museo Nacional de Prado and you'd be foolish to miss out on one of the finest art museums in the world.

We just came back from a romantic 3 day weekend in Madrid. Loved this hotel. The historic hotel is beautiful and special. Helpful and friendly staff who offered advice on what to see and also got us great tickets for an event. Great rooms -- ours was on the 3rd floor and overlooked the El Retiro Park -- gorgeous!
The location is a short walk from the major museums and the Madrid city hall at Plaza Cibeles (go to the roof top for a 360 degree city view followed by drinks on the 6th floor terrace!), but a 20 minute walk to the old city, or a short subway ride.
We went jogging in the Park (just outside the hotel) and then used the small exercise room which was adequate. The hot tub didn't work when we were there.
We also enjoyed the bar.
I'd happily come back to this hotel. I liked the quiet location on the park and the special rooms.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with park views. We stayed in a Superior room on the 3rd floor.

Stayed for three nights as part of a trip around Spain. Great location across from the park. Use hop on hop off bus stop across road to get around. As a gold member was given a room upgrade. Room was comfortable and clean. Front desk staff a bit snooty but everyone else is helpful. The stained glass windows on the stairs were amazing. Plenty of bars and restaurants within walking distance. Breakfast was okay. Bar service a little slow the first night but improved after a tip.
Would stay here a again
