I spend 5 nights in Hostal Castilla 1, which was easy to find as it is in few minutes walk from the city's hot spots. The Hostal is in Atocha Street with hard to find sign (so be careful to look above. The receptionist wasn't that exciting to talk to although thanks that I speak the language, I imagine if I didn't what could have happened. She just asked us to pay the full fee and told us which room we where in. Not a nice greeting at all. i was in room 23 which was a suite. It was clean, cozy with a 16 inch LCD TV. Shower cleaned, bed and new towels were done every day. The room which was near the reception wasn't that positive as I was disturbed during my sleep many times due to people coming and going dragging their luggage on the wooden floor. The worst thing was the guy or girl next door snoring all night long. They must have paper thinned walls! Couldn't have that much sleep at all.

supposed to stay in castilla 2, got there no room, moved us to castilla 1, 10 minutes walk away, took another 10 minutes to locate the sign for the hotel on the street,.. look dont bother with this hotel, although is pretty close to "sol" city centre, there are far better places to stay, the hotel is on the 2nd floor of a building containing other "hotels", the rooms at the front should supply you with ear muffs, and if you streach your arms you will touch the walls on either side of the rooms! the bathrooms are tiny, never seen such small rooms. there is also no breakfast or english speaking tv stations. look around for somewhere else! on the positive side, the girl at the reception was very plesant.

We stayed at Hostal Castilla I for 5 nights, March 31-April 4. The location cannot be beat- easily walkable to Plaza Mayor and Plaza Sol. A Metro Station, line 1, is minutes away. The staff are as nice as can be. The rooms were extremely clean, great television reception, comfortable rooms, private bathrooms, very comfortable beds. The rooms were large enough for the 3 of us. If you are the "room service set", this is not for you. If you want great value in an excellent area, this hotel is for you.

Initially I booked to stay in the Hostal Castilla II, but was informed that we were being moved to Hostal Castilla I on the day of our arrival. They had sent an email to me 18 hours before my arrival informing me of this which was very short notice. Arrived at the hostal to find the man at reception could not speak english. The room was tiny and extremely dark, the bathroom was also very small. The furniture was sparse and the double bed was extremely small. The noise in this hostel was unbearable. We had to go for a few drinks before attempting to fall asleep only to be woken again at 5.30AM to what sounded like a herd of cattle going up and down the stairs. Area around the hotel seemed quite badly lit and may be unsafe at night-time. Decided to check out the next day and relocate, found it very difficult to communicate this to the lady on the desk as she also had no english. Would definetely not recommend thei hostel.

This is a neat little hostal that is very well located (a few steps from Plaza de Santa Ana and a 10 minute walk from Puerta del Sol and Plaza Mayor). The place is cozy but very clean, and the owners are very friendly. You'll love your stay if you don't mind the noise. All rooms give on an interior court, that is extremely echo, and you hear absolutely everything that happens in the hallways and think the phone ringing at the reception area is actually in your room. If you are there to party and don't mind the noise, you'll love the place, but if your sleep is important to you, perhaps think of another place.
