The gardens were a lovely escape from the mid-day sun and tourist madness around the palace. Great photo opportunities of the palace and beautiful little fountains. A great romantic stroll really.

...however not in the same league as the Retiro Park.

Home to lots of statues of previous kings of Spain that were supposed to line the rooftops of the Royal Palace (until Queen Isabela had a nightmare that they were going to topple through the roof and land on top of her) therefore their faces are rather crude (as the artist thought they would only be seen from some distance being located on the roof and all....)

Amidst the bustle of city, stood a garden at the edge facing the Palace. It is a quiet place to relax and enjoy the natural breeze.

Unfortunately with Madrids lack of rainfall, trying to pull off a French garden is virtually impossible.
