“A Palace of a Square”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 August 2014

It is hard to compete with a royal palace across the street, but this plaza nicely complements its neighbor. It offers a grand walk as you approach the palace, and also a great line of statues of ancient French kings. Take time to relax here after walking all over the palace.

TIP: You can purchase water and snacks here before the palace tour.

“Under the sun or shade, take your pick”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 July 2014

Plaza Oriente is located at the east side of the Royal Palace. This plaza really is a park divided into 3 sections. Left and right is full of tree and statues, and the middle part is a well mantained landscape garden. The statue of Felipe IV astride a horse is set on top the fountain.
We took a break there after visiting the Royal palace and Almudena Cathedral. We sat under the shade. But I saw some people sitting on a blanket on the grass and enjoying the sun.
Happy Travelling!

“A lovely spot yo watch the world go by”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 July 2014

These are lovely shady gardens next to the palace. A fab place to get some shade and watch the world go by. Incidentally the palace balcony you can see when your sat there is where Franco addressed his troops from.

“Nice square”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 July 2014

This is a very nice square to take pictures in. There is a huge fountain in the centre and you can view the royal palace in the background. It has several smaller fountains and statues of past kings and queens. Furthermore, it is surrounded by cafes and benches where one can rest and snack. There are also people dressed as matadors and headless men to take pictures with.

“Nice & relaxing for a break”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 July 2014

The square has a nice view of the Royal Palace. The are benches to sit and relax, or wander around the garden admiring the many staues which are here. There is a pleasant cafe to take a break.
