“Location, location, location . . . Great Hotel!”
Reviewed 2 December 2009

The very best location, close to museums, Plaza de Sol and easy walking distance to Plaza Mayor, etc. The square in front of the hotel is beautiful. We had a very basic room and it was great. Good size, clean, very interesting design and comfortable. Did not like the free breakfast but as we travel thru Spain the hotel breakfasts all appear to be about the same. Not really crazy about them. This is definately a good hotel in a great location at a fantastic price. Great Value!

This hotel is really quite nice. It's best feature is its location, right on Plaza S Ana. You can walk almost everywhere in Central Madrid, including the train station, the Prado and the Opera House. The junior suite is very nice with great views of the plaza, nice furnishings and a great bed. Very modern, upscale, and reasonably priced. There are two problems, neither of which is a "deal-breaker," but both of which are odd and totally absurd. 1. The design and mechanism that operate the blinds of the huge floor to ceiling windows in the room are clumsy and flawed. It takes an engineer to tell you how to operate them, and then they often do NOT work properly -- very frustrating. 2. The "hallway bathroom" is simply absurd, with no privacy, and, no matter what you do, water from the shower (in which the hook for the shower head is so high that only a giant can reach it) leaks all over the floor outside the glass shower door, into the toilet area, the tub area and sink area, making a safety hazard of significance, to say nothing of the sheer annoyance of having water all over that expensive floor. One great feature is free internet. The breakfast next door in the cold, uncomfortable, and uninviting tapas bar is ok, nothing special, and the white male who works there has zero interpersonal skills. The Asian female is better. All the staff of the hotel are nice and very helpful. All in all it is a great little hotel with lots going for it. I do wish they would fix the two problems above.

Designer-style (small-ish) rooms with separate shower/toilet in back of room & open wash hand basin to the side - needs getting used to; very little daylight; room extremely hot (end of Nov.) due to heat of lamps, window to a tunnel area which hardly lets air in & NO AIR CON. Then again, it's "only" a 3 star in a super loaction with very friendly staff. €125 p/night internet rate incl. b/fast is not overly expensive (the 5 * Melia had a deal on for same price but w/out b/fast by the way) & don't understand why a new hotel offers heating in the rooms only but no cooling. Breakfast was good with quite a variety on offer (fresh fruit salad, cakes, breads, cereal, tortilla, scrambled eggs, bacon, hams, cold meats & cheses with quine & tomato salsa, joghurt) and a definite plus to eat till 12.00 hrs. Had guests in for € 9 p/p for b/fast which is good value. We would only stay again if air con was installed.

Located on the terrific Plaza Santa Ana, this boutique hotel had nearly everything you needed for a short trip to Madrid. We splurged on a penthouse suite - a great value and a pull-out couch (you pay a little extra). The rooms are chic and clean with no complaints. The location is ideal - 10 min stroll to museums, two minutes to Plaza del Sol and right next to all the best cafes and restaurants. My friend wished there was a coffee maker in the room, and there is no room service, but there is an independent restaurant attached to the hotel that serves breakfast included. Definitely would recommend.

Location is about everything for Alicia. With a trendy design, but a not enough high standard service. Breakfast at the public bar is something cold and uncomfortable.

Very nice and trendy hotel in the heart of Madrid! Bars, Restaurants, Museums and Metro within walking distance! We had also wonderful view of the square! Our room was a little too small, but clean and confortable! The staff was friendly and very kind! Late breakfast till 12:00 every day - you need this in Madrid, but the breakfast it self could be improved! We really enjoyed our stay in this hotel! It was a very good value for money!

This hotel was terrific.....perfect location on Plaza Santa Ana, many tapas bars right on the doorstep. All main areas of the city easily within walking distance. The rooms are very funky and have everything you may need. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful especially in relation to touristy things to do. I cannot wait for my next trip to Madrid and I will most certainly spend it staying in Hotel Alicia.
