I've stayed at this hotel for over a month. First in August 2008 and then in Nov 2008. Excellent location. In Madrid's downtown. Within a short walk from 4 metro stations: Callao, Opera, Sol, Santo Domingo. Surrounded by nice restaurants and shops. Calle Arenal and Calle Mayor and Plaza Mayor are right there. Puerta del Sol and Calle Preciados a few moments away. Most rooms are spacious, simply but nicely decorated, comfortable, with quite heating/ air conditioning, and showers with plenty of hot water and good pressure. The front desk staff is S U P E R L A T I V E... Luca, Enrique, Eva, Sophia, and the director Janet is there everyday making sure that everything is running well. Internet access is fast enough and it's included in the daily rate, and the breakfast buffet is very nice and it's included too. The downside of this hotel is that the streets surrounding it are noisy (it's Madrid's downtown), and the windows would need to be soundproofed. I've sent this feedback to the hotel already, so I hope the invest in solving this matter, because once they do, this hotel would get a solid EXCELLENT review from me.

Locations of all the room-mate hotels are fabulous. The hotels are very efficiently organized so the smaller rooms are perfectly comfortable! The breakfast buffet was fresh and nice. The hotel staff spoke perfect English and were able to give us recommendations for restaurants, directions etc. We asked about a restaurant that we were to meet friends at and he looked it up on the web to give us more information. I loved that each building is distinct.

We stayed at roommate Laura for 3 nights and paid 460 euros- not that cheap but seems to be in accordance with what you pay for being so central.
We booked directly with the hotel and the staff is indeed very friendly and helpful.

I lived in Madrid about 10years ago ( La Latina) so I know Spaniards live/eat/party late and that it is a noisy city. With this in mind, I kind of knew that being so central ( 4mns walk to Sol, 4 mns walk to Opera etc…) was probably going to be noisy but it was beyond what I expected. I slept with earplugs, yet still heard the traffic, the binmen banging bins outside etc… even my partner who sleeps anywhere without problem complained it was very noisy. We had the room just above the hotel entrance so perhaps because the street is narrow, it echoes even more? Night after night, it was the same problem and we stayed there during the week- I dread to imagine what it would be during the week ends. It is also true that, although sleeping on a mezzanine and being a new hotel, you can hear the people next room and that’s a pain. You would expect the walls to be a bit thicker. That aside, the bed was very comfortable and the room very clean. The TV however had no interesting channel aside of BBC news for English people- was expecting just a bit more variety than CNN and BBC but of course wasn’t in Madrid for the TV. Was a bit disappointed by this point though.
I concur with other reviews that there is no bedside lamps and it is virtually impossible to read in bed.

The bathroom is very clean and the choice of toiletries is excellent, the water pressure is excellent and the shower thermostat is easy to use.
The breakfast is set in a gorgeous room, is plentiful and really is in line with a 4* hotel- we were impressed also by the fact that it is served until 12pm for the late sleepers! Every hotel should offer this option so well done Laura room mate!

Our room was a duplex ( see photos I’ve enclosed) and maybe we had really high expectations given the high tripadvisor score but I thought we should have gone for standard/executive as they looked better and were probably a bit cheaper and who knows, a bit less noisy?

It depends on what you expect. If you are just looking for a place to sleep, with a great location, and a helpful staff, it is O.K. Its name is perfectly suited, if you consider it an upper class apartment building for students or very young people. If you are looking for a nice, cozy hotel, this is never the place. Comparing to other hotels classified in top 5 on tripadvisor site (or with other hotels we have stayed in for the same amount of money), this hotel never deserves its place. It is supposed to be modern, but we agree with the only reviewer saying that it is rather cheap and already looks like it has not been renovated for a long time (excepting the breakfast room, which is better than the rest of the hotel). The windows are old, the drain system of the shower cab did not function well (it gets full of water as soon as you start taking a shower), they have no heating system except for the air conditioning which is placed right above your head when you are sleeping.

While there are possible criticisms, the Laura suited us very well & was a wonderful base in central Madrid. The potential downside: we had a duplex, & the stairs are split & steep - they would not suit the slightly infirm or uncertain, or those with poor eyesight. Lighting in the living room might also be too low in the evenings for readers with fading sight. But these weren't major problems for us (and we're in our 50s!) Outside - it's the centre of a European capital, & as of Nov 08 there is still building work going on opposite during daylight hours - but it wasn't too noisy, & we were out most of the time; the bin men do bang around outside at midnight - but no more than in Paris or Barcelona; & the bells at the nearby Monastery might disturb you briefly at 06:30.... But on the upside: the main room was wonderfully spacious, high & airy; the kitchen (locked away behind what just looks like a storage room door) with fridge, micro & two electric rings was very handy - especially as there are no other coffee making facilities; the bathroom was clean & bright with a powerful shower; the bedroom area was quiet & comfortable. This is more a small apartment than just a hotel room. Staff were very friendly & chatty, & the location was great - just a few minutes walk from Metro, stores, supermarkets etc and not much more from galleries, palace, cathderal. This was one of our most enjoyable city centre stays ever. We thoroughly recommend the Laura, & hope to return!

The hotel is very modern and chic. The rooms are bigger than average for Europe and have a nice design.

The hotel is located very near the Plaza del Sol. The area is noisy but we didn't have too much trouble falling asleep. It was easy to hop on the Metro or walk to all the tourist attractions.

The breakfast was very very good and it was nice to have a health variety of food.
