This hotel has a lot going for it , despite the not do nice elevators, nowhere to put you clothing, and mediocre decor of the rooms.

But service is artificial, and really they don't care to assist, just pretend very well

Pity.

When we arrived I hoped that we would have a bedroom at the front facing the plaza and the wonderful park across the road but we had a inside room but we were not disappointed because it was very quiet both during the day and at night, the room was certainly 5* the staff helpful and the breakfast was good, but most of all the hotel itself is so close to the centre and all the attractions

I spent 2 nights with my wife here selebrating my birthday. Staff at the reception was grate, we were very well received and got the peace of birthday cacke which was very pleasant. Rooms are nice but to me 5 stars should be a bit hirher standard. We didn't take breakfasts so can't give any feebback on that. Locatin of the hotel is very convinient.

This hotel is just fantastic, truly a five star in the center of Madrid. The staff pay true attention to detail that exceeded my already quite high expectations.
The location of the hotel itself is nice, located in a small plaza called the Plaza Independencia just a little outside of the main city center. It especially nice because you get a location within walking distance to all the sights without the noisy rooms.

When I first arrived at Hospes after a long transcontinental flight, I was placed into one of their "dreamer" rooms. The room was not very personally appealing and very dark. We then went down and expressed our concerns to the receptionist, and were instantly upgraded into a deluxe room; which was just gorgeous.
The room had a fantastic open floor concept that was extremely tasteful, and were immaculately clean. Not to mention the beds are some of the finest in Spain. Although there was no door to the bathroom, there was a small bit of screening which was just fine for us.

The amenities of the hotel are not on the scale of some of the other five star hotels in Madrid, but everything was executed well. The restaurant was nice with a terrace out in the plaza.

The staff in the hotel were just excellent, every staff member was extremely friendly. They noticed we enjoyed the fruit plate after ordering it with room service and afterwards they brought fruit plates up to our room at no additional charge. The staff made every attempt to accommodate our needs, and made fantastic restaurant recommendations (especially the night manager, he was the best!).

The Point:
This hotel is fantastic for those travelers who are looking for luxury and privacy, it's not The Ritz Carlton because it's a small hotel where they're aren't hoards of other people in the reception (we felt like the only guests in the hotel). It's a small hotel where the staff and friendly and the rooms comfortable.

Room Tip: Try to avoid the dreamer rooms facing into the courtyard, they tend to be quite dark.

Great location though building lacks character. Staff very welcoming and helpful - though saying we'd been upgraded wasn't true as I'd booked a deluxe room! Breakfast was amazing - lots of fresh fruit, cheeses, bread and meats. Very comfortable bed but bathroom open plan - walk out of shower or get out of bath in full view of partner/ person sharing room!!! Floor also very slippy when wet.

Let's say something positive to start with... Great location, clean, pleasant staff, free wi-fi.

But, and it's a huge "BUT"... Open plan bedroom/bathroom!

Whoever designed the rooms thought it would be cool and modern and slightly edgy and possibly "romantic" to have no door, no wall, no nothing, between the bedroom and the bathroom. It's all one. Open plan. So unless you are a honeymoon couple or someone who is young enough to enjoy displaying your naked body to your partner, you can pretty much say goodbye to any notion of privacy. From the comfort of their own bed, your partner can see EVERYTHING that is going on in the bath or shower (the toilet has frosted glass which sadly provides no insulation from the sounds and smells of your, err, lavatory). Nice. Really romantic.

Personally, I am not too shy, but sadly my wife is... And so is my teenage son, who is in the same room as us. They booked us as three in the room. But "suitable for a family", this is not.

The nice people at the front desk said that all the rooms in the hotel were designed in exactly the same way. Open plan bathroom. It's very common, they said. It contributes to the atmosphere, they said. The only "atmosphere" in my room was one of a freshly soiled toilet. Or maybe an atmosphere of icy coldness from my distraught wife who was trying to work out how she was going to survive 4 days without taking a bath or a shower or using the toilet.

To the hotel's credit, we were moved from our deluxe room to a suite, which at least has a door on the bedroom (a bedroom en suite, maybe...? Spot the mistake there). But in the suite, the bath tub is in right next to the main door, in the middle hall floor. Bizarre. You know, designers make mistakes and get lost in a world of their own coolness. I can forgive the designer. But for the hotel management not to correct this mistake, it is just unforgivable. And that is why I can only give this hotel one out of five. Could you not put up a curtain? I asked. Err, no, it's not possible, the concierge replied. Maybe that would spoil the atmosphere...
