“Great location, nice atmosphere, smallish rooms”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 January 2014

I really like this hotel, but primarily because of where it is and how lovely the staff are! I've stayed in the hotel once before, and both times the service has been excellent - from checking in, breakfast, room service, printing things, to the cleaning staff - always pleasant, friendly and happy to help. The rooms are slightly small for a four-star hotel, and unless you pay more for it, you get no view of any description from your window (would be nice, just one time, to get a room facing the plaza!). But if you're here for business, where you just want to be centrally located, enjoy a pleasant stay and a comfortable bed with a decent breakfast - it's a great spot. Plaza Santa Ana is the perfect base from which to explore Madrid as well, so you're never too far from good restaurants, local sights or great shopping! And the rooftop terrace is lovely. Here's my main grievance - please either put a plug in the bathroom, or a mirror next to the plugs: women needs plugs by a mirror for drying and styling of hair! Also, some of the rooms have no table space, which makes it hard if you order room service. Aside from that, perfectly good hotel, with very good wifi.

I extended my stay in Madrid after attending a work conference. We heard good things about this hotel and decided to spend our long weekend here. The quality of accommodation is to a good standard however it the onsite provisions that make this hotel great. The roof top bar is amazing and there are plenty of fantastic eateries around here to ensure you see more of Madrid. I would recommend this hotel however you can eat and drink here without staying if you prefer a different location.

The ME Melia is ideally located in the center of Madrid, within walking distance of major museums, plazas, and nightlife. No real need for a taxi from here! The hotel is a great combination of modern and swanky-cool. The rooftop bar and lounge is amazing and an awesome start to a night out in Madrid. The beautiful crowd comes here. Downside is rooms can be small, but that is the norm in Europe's major capitals, and they are well-furnished. Very well done by Melia.

We stayed 4 nights over New years Eve. Our room which was fairly compact had a balcony over Santa Ana Square which was very nice. We received 1 bottle of complimentary water on the 1st night but weren't informed whether we would receive any more - which we didn't. We had to purchase water from the mini bar.

There was a terrible smell of drains in the bathroom which only disappeared if we ran the shower. We informed one of the reception staff on our 2nd day and he said he would get someone to look into it but we don't know if anyone did or not and there was no follow up. We heard from another guest that they had the same problem so perhaps this is normal for this hotel?

The bar/restaurant looks absolutely lovely and is very comfortable but it is spoilt by the incredibly rude and unfriendly staff with the exception of who we presumed was the restaurant manager during the day/evening and one of the waiters. At breakfast it was the same surly service. We always said please and thank you in Spanish and made every effort to gain a smile but to no avail.

One of the most disappointing things was that we intended starting off our evening on new years eve with a relaxing drink in the bar before we went out only to find on going downstairs that the bar was closed for a 'paid for' event. We were not informed that this event was taking place and there should have been signs up in the bar the previous day or notes in our rooms. The only note in our room mentioned a party on the roof.

I have stayed at the hotel several times in 2013 for business trips. The rooms are in general terms, clean, modern and well maintained. The bathrooms in particular are very well appointed.
The location of the hotel is fantastic, right on Plaza Santa Ana and within walking distance of many of Madrid's attractions.
My disappointment with the hotel is that unless you pay extra for an external facing room, you end up with a room with an internal window facing into corridors / other rooms. This means that you have to keep the curtains closed and you get limited natural light in the room.

Room Tip: If you can afford it, pay extra for a room with an external window

What I love? the strategic location in the old town of Madrid. It is very close to Plaza Mayor, shopping area, night life and others. It is walking distance to explore the church and cathedral and 20 minutes walk to the palace to the Madrid Royal Palace. The hotel staff is helpful. The interior in the room is unique. Eh I meant they have purple wall painting and in the bathroom mirror they have Bowie quote which I don't remember. The light in the room can set up to the romantic mode. A bit weird but nice! The room size is a bit small just enough for 2 people. I love the balcony though. My room balcony face the back street of Santa Ana. It always crowd from noon to morning but it doesn't bother my sleep. Overall it is great hotel and great locations for the first time traveler visits Madrid. In term of money worth? It is middle up to luxury hotel. I meant not cheap hotel!

Room Tip: Any rooms side is good.

Popped here for a weekend business break - conicerge was polite & friendly. Free wifi in the building was handy. Free buffet breakfast had lots of options and was a lot nicer than most hotel continental breakfasts. Room was extremely clean and contemporary. Walk in showers are a nice luxury touch. Spent the nightime at the rooftop bar which allows free access for guests - good cocktails would be lovely in the height of summer. Lovely bar with brillant views of the plaza (would recommend this bar even if you dont stay here!!). We stayed in a room facing the courtyard which was nice to see that they make an effort with the view. I reckon that an outwards facing room would have really good views of madrid.
ME hotels are worldwide known for their luxury and its what you would expect of their standard so I think price weighs correctly against the standard of service. Target audience is the weekend breakers and business workers, I think it meets these expectations. Offers modern business centre and work facilities. Location would also be good for a weekend shopping or sight seeing trip as its only a short walk to the centre.
