“Great value for money - a wonderful place to stay”
Reviewed 26 May 2011

This place lived up to everything I was expecting... good, clean, comfortable, friendly accommodation in an excellent area of Madrid. We had a delightful room with a little balcony overlooking Fuencarral Street and a small ensuite bathroom.

Having just read the previous reviews by CKcapetown and Alba22, there's little more I can add, except to say that I completely agree with everything said. Plus, the wi-fi internet was complimentary and high speed.

I would definitely stay here again. It's a gem of a place.

A friend and I stayed at Hostal Las Murallas for 3 nights, and I would recommend this hostel to anyone visiting Madrid on a budget. I am very grateful for having found this hidden gem through Tripadvisor, and I would gladly return whenever I visit Madrid again. The hostel is family-run by a very friendly elderly couple, and its location is perfect for shopping or sightseeing, as the biggest sights are only a few minutes away by metro or on foot. There are some great restaurants close by, as well as the Teatro Munoz Seca, where spectacular flamenco shows can be enjoyed. After a horrible night's stay in the Mad Hostel in Madrid, my fellow traveller and I were incredibly grateful to have a large, clean, comfortable room and bathroom for ourselves for only 18 Euro per person per night. There is no breakfast offered, but for this price, it is still incredible value for money. Our room was cleaned everyday and was equipped with a colour television as well as a pretty little balcony from which we had a lovely view of Fuencarral street. This is an intimate family-run hostel par excellence, I am delighted to have stayed at Hostal Las Murallas.

I went to Madrid for 3 days. It was my first in this city and i'm so glad i chose Las Murallas hostal. With the price i paid i did not expect to end up in such a good hostal.
-location: First of all the location is great. 2 min away from Gran Via which is the main street in Madrid and 5 min away from the center. The street Fuencarral is a safe street with many great shops and restaurants.
-security: I was a solo traveler and i was very glad cause the hostal is very safe. It is family owned so it was very secured during the day and during the night. Open 24 hours per day so no problems for checking in, you can arrive any time you like
Cleanliness: I have never seen a hostal or a hostel this clean before. Especially the toilet and the shower are very clean.
-rooms: my room was great. Big enough for one person, with heating and tv.
-service: the owners of the hostal are very nice people. The owners are a spanish couple and their daughter. Very lovely people. The daughter speaks very good English so that means you won't have any problems if you don't speak spanish.

If i go back to Madrid, i will definitely stay in this hostal because for the price i paid i got a lot more than i expected.

I stayed at this hostel which by the way, is literally right in the center of the city, the location was the best part. It's not the greatest place to meet people if that's important to you. The place seemed clean but it was very run down. Our bathroom was cleaned everyday and we had fresh towels waiting which was nice. One of the huge negatives was the bed, it was so hard and I had a difficult sleep each night. Overall, it's a run down place but it wasn't bad. Small, but that's how everything is.

Stayed there for 6 nights with my girlfriend in a double room, last week in April 2009.
The double room with bathroom was deacent size and was cleaned every day. The beds were great. The walk up the stairs was not a big deal.
The hostel is cheap and the people are frendly! Loaction is superb and just a short walk from the metro station! The area is lively during night hours, specialy on weekends.
Would stay here again and again and again....

I stayed there for 3 nights in the end of April/09.
The little single room was cleaned every day, the shower and toilet is shared, but I didn't have any problems because of it and they were extremelly clean, except for the tower which seems to be washed with no softener at all. The doors were a little bit noisy and you can hear every sound from the corridor. There's no much service, but for the price I couldn't complain. The bed was excelent and comfortable.
Considering that I am a solo traveler woman, I thought the location a little bit strange and frightening (maybe because I arrived at night), the building was old and there's no elevator to go to the 5th floor, the street was in construction (as many other places in Madrid) but very near to the subway.

We enjoyed our stay at Hostal Las Murallas. Unfortunately, we got lost on the way, as the directions suggest that it is a three minute walk from the subway. However, there is no indication which way to go.
Once there, we found it to be clean, and the family, very kind. If you are used to/prefer a comfortable bed, look elsewhere. Also, by stating that it is on the fourth floor, what they really mean is the fifth, since floor one doesn't start until you are up one of five double flights of stairs. I would not suggest this hostel if you plan on drinking, getting up the stairs was hard enough sober, and we are fit.
The wi-fi was great, and the location even better.
