“Good hotel at a value price”
Reviewed 26 February 2010

Got a deal on this hotel through Travelocity. Very nice hotel for its class. Good location, easy walking distance to 2 metro stations, only 10 minutes walk from Plaza Mayor. The neighborhood seemed as safe as anywhere in Madrid; even the Plaza de Espana seemed fine as late as midnight. I worried about noise from the road (Leganitos), so I got a third floor room in the back; only smoking rooms are available there. The room was very quiet at night, and fortunately did not smell of smoke at all. The kitchenette was nice, and added space to the room setup; I brought along a bowl and utensils for breakfast. The bathroom was fine, very clean. The staff could converse in English and were helpful.

Friendly staff, very clean, wonderful location! We had a marvelous time in Madrid, thanks to this hotel. It was something like flat, first room with bed and kitchen and second with sofa and TV. A lot of space, very clean, good hair-dryer, nice and big bathroom. Ask for a balcony because we did not have a good window.

The location is superb. Metro is only a block a way. Plaza Mayor and Puerta del Sol are about 10-15 minutes away by walking. Staff are OK, and they lack smile. Their hotel sign is very small that you can easily miss. You are only 150 fee away from the police station, so you can feel safe here. There are some Asian grocery stores that you can buy some basic stuff and drinks until 10 pm, even on weekened and holidays. There is a small kitchen but there are no utensils at all ( not even a fork). The soap and shampoo they offer are more like Motel 6 quality. We paid $290 per night ( after advance booking discount) thru Hotels.com. I believe we could have got a better quality hotel with this price. There are many 4 stars hotels nearby, and their lobbies all look nicer than Suites 33. Of course, you have to be aware that 4 stars hotels are more like 3 stars hotels in the US. Suites 33 is more like a 2 stars hotel in the US.
There is a good seafood tapas bar on Leganito which we enjoyed a lot on the New Year eve. But the same time we encountered the rude Madrileños. When I asked a lady to see if I could get a high chair from them since they were 3 persons with 4 chairs. They said "no" as they were using their 4th chair to put their purses. After standing there for 30 minutes, they finally left and their chairs are immediately occupied by another group of 3. I got another denial after asking the new group courteously whether I could get a chair from them. I saw them using the 4th chair to put their coats. What a cultural difference!!!!

Imagine your first time in Madrid, you take the Metro from the Airport to Plaza de Espana, walk half a block and you are at your hotel. It is 8:30 AM you have flown all night, check in us at 2pm. What do you do? " Hi is our room ready? " You're are greeted warmly and the surprising answer is yes. You are able to check in early, clean up and have a great start to your holiday.
The room was clean, the staff cheerful and helpful and the location was spot on for us.
We were in the front, on the second floor with a large window that opened to the street. Yes, there was construction, but we were there to play, not sleep when the workers were doing their thing. That was not a bother at all.
This hotel is a great value although they should consider adding some glasses, dishes, flatware etc to the well appointed kitchen area. Why have it if you can't use it? I know we do not carry that stuff around with us when we travel.

Just returned from a 3 night stay at the Suites 33 in Madrid and can honestly say I will use this hotel again on my return. Great sized rooms and bathrooms, very clean, comfortable, modern. Unsure why there is a kitchenette with no crockery, cuttlery or kettle and would say that this is my only complaint about the place, no tea/coffee making facilities... have to walk to the starbucks on the end of the road for your morning fix! We stayed on the 4th floor overlooking the street. The street the hotel is on is currently being dug up and re-laid, but the hotel has great double glazing and you could not hear a thing. The noise of the busy city was also not heard, ensuring a great nights sleep. Other comments suggest that the hotel is based on a seedy side street, yes there is a strip club a few doors away, but then so is the local cop shop!! This was a weekend trip away for 2 girls, so safety is always a priority for us, we never felt unsafe at any time of the day or night. The reception is 24 hours and all staff throughout the day was extremley helpfull, never failing to answer a question we had. Even calling us in our room with information that they had located for us.

The location was great, just a few steps from the Plaza de Espana with great access to the metro and more importantly running parrallel with the Gran Via. So various bars, resturants, theatres and shops are all within a short walking distance. The metro being so easy and cheap to use, just 1 euro per trip for anywhere in the city and 2 euros for the airport. We paid approx. 30 euros from the airport to the hotel on a busy Friday night, however on the return we paid just the 2 euros each and within half an hour we was at the airport. Next time I'm in Madrid, I will use the cheap and highly efficient metro, especially with Suites 33 being just a few yards from the metro stop.

We stayed at this hotel for 5 nights and were very pleased with our stay. The rate was extremely good (average 90 euros a night inclusive of all taxes) considering the location and large room space. Yes, it is on a small street that had some construction going on but we were extremely surprised that with all the construction going on outside we didn't hear a thing in our room. We were on the 4th floor facing the interior and we often joked that we felt like we were in a cave as it was so quiet. The only noise would come from a closing door in the hallway, and if someone was loud above of us (which didn't happen). Free internet, location is good as you have access to 2 metro stops next by on different lines, and it is also a quick walk from the Plaza de Espana stop from the airport so it is very convenient. We really enjoyed our stay. And also, I was a bit concerend that non smoking was only on 1st and 2nd floors and I hadn't thought to ask for non smoking, but in our room on the 4th floor it was totally fine. No smoke residue, quiet, very clean, big bathroom (only a glass divider that worked fine as we don't splash) with a bath tub. Front desk was extremely helpful in guiding us to the soccer match and bull fight we bought tickets for. So, we praise it on cleanliness, LOCATION, quiet, contemporary, helpful front desk. Also, yes the bed is firm but we slept just fine.
