A lovely modern hotel in an upscale neighborhood, quiet, yet only about a 10 minute walk to the Prado, etc. Once note: in September of 2010 the street in front of the hotel is being redone and the noise form the construction starts early and is very loud. I would request a room on a high floor away from the front of the hotel. As well, note that this hotel in on the Calle Recoletos, not the Paseo Recoletos.

We stayed here for three nights in Aug/2010. The location of this hotel is great. We walked everywhere to all the attractions at all hours of the day. the hotel itself was clean, the staff were helpful and the rooms were nice and modern. The time that we were there, there was heavy duty contruction going on which started around 9. Obviously, not ideal, but it's not the hotel's doing. Despite the hotel from nearby construction, I throughly enjoyed my stay.

A good hotel, well located in downtown. near the park to run, right price and good service. Too expensive 18 euros for a cup of tea and some bread and marmelade

If you are familiar with AC hotels, you might conceivably be a bit disappointed by this one, although a "Seleccion".
The location is quite allright. Bad luck, they were digging up the pavements of the street for electricity works, so everyone was awake at 8 o'clock, despite the double glazing.
The lobby is very small and the bar was deserted at all times, which doesn't encourage you to have a drink and makes you want to get to your room as quickly as possible.
The breakfast was very good. The standard rooms are a bit small compared to other AC hotels, although the price is higher.
Seleccion hotels used to have a free bar at certain hours: no such feature visible at Recoletos.
On the whole, I was quite disappointed by the general quality of the hotel and would have chosen another one, even for a higher price.

The last 3 times we have been in Madrid we were in this hotel. It is located right in the place you want to be if you want to enjoy the spirit of the city and to do some shoppings. Retiro Park is just 2 minutes away and you are in the middle of the best shopping area, restaurants and bars, without the noise and crowd of downtown. The size of the room was fine, clean and modern. The bathroom looks fantastic with glass walls the only downside is that the other person in the room can see you (not sexy!) so you can have fun if is your first trip together :-))
The staff is nice and make you feel pretty helpful, I am not sure about the live music in on Thursday in the tiny bar, when I arrived and saw the bar area was packed with people playing instruments I thought it was a private party, so we didn't join :-)))

the location is great, once the street construction is complete, which will be soon. when booking, was prompted to choose (1) terrace or (2) vaulted ceiling. Chose terrace, not neither. despite the fact (or maybe because of it) the hotel seemed mostly empty, service wasn't ready for prime time. Wi-fi in the room didn't work at all, no efforts were made to fix it. Being a new hotel, was surprised room desk was too small, holding TV, and had only 1 outlet oddly placed; inadequate for today's electronics. i had to work in the bar, using free wi-fi. i saw a library room, but no business center at all. breakfast was an additional charge, and overpriced, despite the room rate not discounted.

i'm a fax of AC hotels, as they usually balance right contemporary interior design with adequate services for the business traveler. this seemed like a soft opening, in a soft economy. the room rate should reflect as much.
