“Hidden Gem in Madrid exceeded my expectations.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 June 2010

Great chic hotel, fantastic location (gran via) is located in the heart of Madrid, steps from metro and walking distance to attractions: Plaza de Espana, Puerta del Sol. I would say the decoration of this hotel blew me away, it looks exactly as you see on the website. The rooms are very spacious and comfortable, the spa and terrace are fantastic.

the staff was always attentive and kind. This hotel is the kind that you never get tired of. I would definitely book it on my next trip to Madrid.

The interior design of this classic building with it's elegant oval-spiraled marble staircase and stained glass windows is complemented with an eclectic mix of feathered chandeliers, glass elevators, nostalgic black & white photographs, & highly-patterned, lit plexiglass backdrops. A very funky place to stay for the non-conservative traveler. Our room, 710, looked out over the quieter back street & neighborhood produce market. Ask for a high floor to minimize street noise. Make sure that you venture up to the rooftop patio for lovely views of the city at sunset. The abundance of comfortable seating provides a great outdoor livingroom to share a bottle of wine. The location is just a stone's throw from Placa de Catalunya & very convenient to all the sites. Breakfast in the hotel was a bit pricey at 20 euros, so we opted to walk up the street to any number of other places that offered breakfast for much less. No free internet access. Front desk staff was very helpful & always ready to offer assistance with directions. The hotel director, Lee Mitchell, even sent some welcoming chocolates to our room- a nice touch.

Maybe the best-looking hotel i've been so far in my life.. Excellent decoration inside the room, combines elegance with trendy and the room was so comfortable that we didn't want to go out to Madrid! The hotel inside was fantastic! Marble stairs, old-style elevators, mirror-doors, vitraux glasses.. you think you are somewhere magical! The best part was the breakfast! Best I've ever had! It had a seperate buffet only for sweets and cakes! Tapas, bacons, croissants, omeletes, fruits, yogurts, juices, corn-flakes and many more I couldn't even dreamed of.. Staff was very kind and helpful (they even booked us for a flamenco-thanx).I don't know what more I can say about this hotel. Madrid is great but Vinci Via is perfect!

A sign of a 'camp' hotel usually manifests itself in uncontrollable girly giggling from me. And true to form my giggles lasted from reception till the 9th floor where we were to stay for 3 nights.

One on my design highlights was the white garden furniture carefully positioned on a black oval rug (I am guessing the rug was symbolic of grass). This was positioned just outside the lift for you to enjoy the grand spiral staircase.

The room is a good enough size - with the bathroom offering more generous proportions. Sadly, we encountered a 'design fail' with the shower nozzle resembling an eighties microphone and lacking true power (you'd find more oomph in an eighties power ballad).

It's in a good central location for getting around most touristy spots. Yet you'll find it around its immediate area a little grungy and grimy - with little in the way of cute tapas bars to lure you in.

Overall I thought great value for me given its location, size and design features.

I absolutely loved my stay in Vincci Via 66. We arrived really early and they were able to hold our baggage while we visited all the tourist sites. They also told us exactly at what time we could come back and we would have a room. It's location is one of the best features since it's in the Gran Via and between two metro stops, Plaza de Espana and Santo Domingo. Both are very close and the metro is great since it takes you to all tourist sites and is very easy to use. The rooms and the hotel in general is very modern and very clean. The room is big and the beds are really comfortable, just like the beds we have in the US. In terms of internet, you do need to have your own cable in order to get it free. We only had one issue and it was that since the hotel has floors where you can smoke, we were directly beneath it and the smell got in our room. The management reaction was a bit dissapointing since they just told us to open the window, but taking this minor incident out, it is a great hotel.

The hotel has a nice mix of modern style combined with the old architecture of the building and a few extravagant elements like the chandeliers and old photos of movie stars. The rooms are nice, not too big but with sufficient space equipped with nice firm mattresses and a very spacious bathroom. We requested a quiet room to the back side of the building and could even sleep with the window open at least late at night. The lack of closet space could be an issue for some. Also there are almost no public areas apart from the roof terrace which is indeed nice (they tolerated even that we brought our own food & drink), but I wonder what is the situation during winter time. The staff vary slightly from mostly very nice to so so, but most of our requests were met promptly and in a friendly matter. There is a Spa which can be booked but is not of general use for guests and I can not comment on the offer as we did not use it. Somehow it felt like a very comfortable bed & breakfast or you can call it boutique hotel rather than a real hotel and I think while the rooms and amenities are four stars the rest is somehow not. Still it is value for money and I would definitely return if the price is right.

We were pleasantly surprised by this hotel. Make sure you stay on an inside room for quiet. Very important in the city! No road noise at all. We had a nice room, although found out in major cities they make you pay for TV. The bathroom was really spacious and modern. Liked it a lot. The location was very central to everything so it was easy to get to places. We were really happy with this hotel for the price we paid.
