Typical and a classic in Madrid , near Sabatini Gardens and Plaza de Oriente. You will not be disappointed and have a taste of this amazing place. Have a nice meal!!! Try to get early, because this place gets packed really fast and is a great atmosphere.

Sampled the classic Madrid dish - cocido today with 3 Spanish friends. Such are the portion sizes that we ordered 2 for the 4 of us and it was enough. If you have never eaten cocido you must try it at La Bola. Classic restaurant, professional waiters and great atmosphere. Excellent house wine and superb postres (puddings) make this an ideal place to sample Spanish cuisine and this typical Madrid dish. You will probably need to book.

This restaurant is in a side street, on a corner, and it looks small from the outside, but inside there is actually a sequence of small rooms. The place gets really packed. The waiters are true professionals, some of them must have worked more than 30 years there. The food is very very good, not really light, but very tasty. The décor has probably not changed in the last 40 years. The cocido is really recommendable, but it is best to share it and take something else on the side. The mushrooms were delicious.

We happened upon La Bola on New Year's Day. It was cold and pouring rain in Madrid, and from outside it looked warm and inviting - we were actually surprised to find a restaurant open on January 1st. We didn't know anything about the place but we were clearly the only non-locals eating a late lunch. Everyone around us was enjoying what looked to be a hearty soup, so we asked what it was and were told it was the cocido. We ordered one and the roast leg of lamb. The cocido was huge, came in it's own crock and would have been plenty for two. The leg of lamb turned out to be exactly that - the whole leg, and it was very tasty. Add to that a bottle of the house red and we had an excellent rainy day lunch that made dinner completely unnecessary.

You should keep in mind they don't take credit cards.

We went there to have the famous "cocido" and we've not been disappointed ! Beautifully mixed meats and vegetables, preceded by theit own broth: what else to add ??? The swordfish I had was good as well. Final lemon sorbet closed a wonderful madridist experience !
