If you're visiting with kids, this is the place to visit in Madrid! My kids enjoyed it. They liked the shows and the different ecosystems presented in this place.

Dear visitor,

Thanks for sharing with us your experiences from Finland. On our website, on the tab By Faunia, we provide some useful tips for families with children between 0-8 years, 9-12 years and adults. We hope you have been enjoyed the four ecosystems and 15 themed areas of the park. Surely, the month of July is a great opportunity to watch our penguin chicks that have just been born in the Polar Ecosystem.

Regards.

“Great Outdoor Experience!”
Reviewed 27 May 2014

Faunia is a great experience. We had our son's 7th birthday party there and the kids had a lot of fun. The venom attraction and the "jungle" are the ones we liked most, as well as the sea lion show. Food is ok, typical fast food from a park. To find it, put in your GPS Avenida de las Comunidades, 28, Madrid - forget about Valdebernardo, it just make it confuse. They also have a space with tyrolesas (zip lines) for kids from 4-8 years old, approximately. The kids loved it!
Gracias a Borja por la atención dedicada a los niños en las tyrolesas y a Raquel por su paciencia y dedicación durante la visita guiada.

“Really memorable day out with young children”
Reviewed 18 April 2014

Faunia is quite hard to find (even by car), and you do need to book online in advance otherwise it's quite pricey, but it's well worth a visit. The penguin attraction is huge, with a great range of different penguins (far, far better than the London Aquarium). The venom attraction has the largest display of poisonous snakes, spiders and frogs I've ever seen (although they all looked pretty cooped up in glass boxes). There are animatronic dinosaurs, an Amazon jungle with real rain and tropical birds, wallabies, crocodiles, a good playground, fun shows (one with sea lions and also one with birds flying around the outdoor theatre) plus lots of other things that we didn't see. It's much more fun than a traditional zoo with slightly deranged lions, tigers, elephants etc pacing around a tiny enclosure. NB You can hire a plastic "taxi" to take children round in, which looked fun but costs about €10 I think.

“A different kind of 'zoo'”
Reviewed 22 January 2014

We loved this park. It's quite different to your 'traditional' zoo...it doesn't have the usual lions, elephants, etc. Rather a variety of smaller animals a lot of which you can walk right near them and interact with them too. We even had little monkeys jumping on us at one point! Needless to say our 16month old son loved it and we enjoyed it too. We went on a Monday and the park was practically empty which made it even more fun for us as we could let our son run around freely.

Try and get some good directions to get there. We tried using google maps but it didn't get us quite there. Thankfully a friendly local set us on the right track eventually. You can get there by train/metro from Madrid centre...it takes about 40mins. Highly recommended for a different and educational experience for the kids!

“If you can find it, it's worth it”
Reviewed 2 November 2013

For a young family, it's a great escape from the city, and yet so close. On a Thursday afternoon there was hardly anyone there. We missed the crocodile feeding at 2.30pm so they were all sleeping when we saw them. We arrived quite late in the afternoon so didn't see the full extent of the park, but did see a sea lion demonstration, which enthralled the children. We weren't there long enough to notice anything untoward about the conditions. There were plenty of signs around regarding feeding of animals, and specific feed was on sale for 2 or 3 very specific animals. The rest were off limits understandably.
The staff were friendly, the children could get up close to certain animals, it all seemed well laid out. There was a dinosaur exhibit which was fun for them, and easy to follow.

The main problem with Faunia? The directions on the leaflet (all in spanish - reasonably straightforward to understand but an english copy would have made it easier) we were given at the hotel were very misleading. It advised a Metro stop which was nowhere near the place. There were bus details also, but it was still unclear. And actually the website advised a completely different set of directions! Which to choose? I still have no idea. We were lucky that we were meeting friends there - they had a car and came to find us. Another friend whose parents live in the vicinity says they are fed up giving directions to lost tourists.
So - if you can get there, with your family, enjoy. But plan your travel very very carefully beforehand and be prepared to walk a while if taking public transport.
