We eat at Danxtari whenever we are in Madrid. This time is continued to be wonderful. The atmosphere and service is very warm and helpful. The food is wonderful, with the ability to get two half portions of different entrees, if you desire. We had the cod croquettes, the seafood and fish pudding, and the special pardon-like peppers for appetizers...and the magnificent special turbot for two as our entrée. Everything, and I mean everything, was superb. We have made another reservation in about a week when we return from our 5-day trip to San Sebastian for more wonderful food. We can't wait to have the pig's feet next time!!!

An awesome meal all around, other than the spider crab stuffed hake that was OK. Everything else was outstanding from appetizer to dessert. The staff was more than gracious with us given our pathetic Spanish speaking abilities. It took awhile for the bill to materialize at the end but hey, it's Spain and everything is unhurried!

My wife and I, two elderly Brits on a four day break in Madrid, enjoyed this fine restaurant for two evening meals at reasonable cost, located near to our Hotel Mercure. The food and service were exemplary and the atmosphere very relaxing. Highly recommended.

We tried this restaurant based on a recommendation of a madrileno friend. We were the second party to arrive that night and we got VIP service from everyone. The waitress spoke english and so did the owner. They patiently explained what each dish was and when we ordered seafood, they brought out the raw fish to show us how fresh it was. I shared the oxtail with my sister and it was very good, except that I wish it came with vegetables - it just came with sauce - that was it.
After that, we ordered the specialty of the house - apple tart for dessert and it was served with ice cream. Then when the coffee came, they gave us the almond cookie - which was very delicate and hot from the oven. Overall, the bill came to much more than we budgeted but it was well worth it. The only caveat is that you need to ensure you clearly understand the portions you order because if you are sharing one order - they add a half portion more as it wouldn't be enough (this was the oxtail) for two. Will go back

My husband and I fell in love with Dantxari and ended up having a 3 hr lunch. This is old Spain and the atmosphere is incredibly cozy, perfect for a wet and cold Madrid afternoon.
Even though we did not have a reservation, the head waiter immediately seated us by separating a table. We had our much desired cold beers within 5 min of sitting down. The cuisine is typically Basque; wonderful fresh ingredients cooked to perfection. The cod croquettes were exactly the way a great croquette should be, crispy and dry crust and creamy inside.. Despite what some reviewers say, the homey, rustic atmosphere made the whole experience even more enjoyable.
This is FOOD WITHOUT MAKEUP, no fish foam or UEO´s (unidentifiable eadible objects), just a perfect meal with amazing service. The prices are more than fair, with a main dish at around €18 to 20 euros.
The clients were all obviously local business people and regulars, which is a good sign. We will definitely be back on our next Madrid break! Ask for a table upstairs, very charming!
