“Nice place, normal food”
Reviewed 6 June 2014 via mobile

I went last night to Mercado de la Reina with 4 friends , the place is very nice, a lot of people but we got a table fast , we had dinner at the upper part of the restaurant an then drinks at the bottom bar, the service was good at the restaurant and the food normal, we had croquetas they were regular , good pimientos de Padron , a good fried eggplant with sugar honey, normal octopus with their own touch of Modena vinegar and a good Russian salad, then we went downstairs for a drink, the service downstairs was awful , we asked for Hendricks gin and the bartender told us to go next door if we want to get it because they were the same owners, we told him if it is the same owner bring a bottle but he said he couldn't , then when we ask for the second round of drinks he said that they were going to close in 25 mins , so we decided to leave, obviously he didn't care about the customers nor the business. It was a shame because the drinks were good.We are not coming back to el mercado de la reina, there are a lot of places in madrid with good drinks and better service.

“Good food and nice place”
Reviewed 4 June 2014 via mobile

I had dinner here a couple of days ago. Food was really good for a price a bit over the average. But the location is very central and the atmosphere great. Staff was friendly and kind.

“Great Place, Good Food”
Reviewed 27 May 2014

We went here for lunch the day we arrived in Madrid, it was recommended by our hotel and have to say it was a great find. If you go in from the Gran Via side, you enter into the Tapas area, mixed seating including a bar area with high chairs were tapas are served it was buzzing with a great vibe. Further in they have a restaurant and bar/cocktail area. We sat here. Food was lovely, prawn carpaccio, grilled octopus, mushroom croquettes all prepared and presented very nicely. A glass or great spanish rose wines and lots of water, it was 30degrees in Madrid unusual but there you are. We were very tempted with desserts but could not eat anymore, but I would recommend you leave a space for this, all the ones served on other tables looked yummy.

“Excellent atmosphere, lively place, great gin bar downstairs”
Reviewed 21 May 2014

Loved the atmosphere. Lively. Good food and drink. Start with an appertizer in the bar, then eat in the restaurant, then have a gin tonic downstairs. Wonderful concept, although you might not walk out of here straight ....
