“Unfinished ”

This is a nice museum with lots of miniatures of ships and submarines, history of pirate invasions. The best thing there, IMO, is the huge miniature of a ship on the second floor of the museum

“Sadly lacking”
Reviewed 17 January 2014

A great collection of their naval history but only if you speak Spanish. Little of any other language which is a shame as much craftsmanship has gone into creating some of the historical vessels, so there is little meaning to what one is viewing.
It could be superb with more detail in foreign languages such as the one in Venice.

“Closed for siesta”
Reviewed 7 May 2013

We were in Cartagena for one day only having arrived on a cruise liner. High on my list of things to do was to visit this museum. After some shopping and a stop for coffee we however came across the Roman Theatre first and spent a very enjoyable hour or so there. Then we had lunch. By the time we got to the Naval Museum it was after 1.00 pm and we were told by the staff locking the gates that it was shut for siesta until 5.00pm. As we had to be back on board the cruise liner by 4.30 pm for a 5.00 pm sailing this meant that we could not visit this attraction. Therefore if you want to visit get there before 11.00 am to give yourself time to do the museum justice.

“THE SUBMARINE IS NOT YELLOW BUT GREY”
Reviewed 27 April 2013

I loved the ship models and there is also a great range of paintings to see. But the reconstruction of a submarines wardroom good though it is would not encourage me to go under the see in a submarine. I believe that the Peral Submarine is housed there now it has been moved from the quay in the Port. If you are really keen in things associated with submarines, you might even consider visiting Isaac Peral's grave at the top of the Santa Lucia Cemetery from where you will have some brilliant views over Cartagena City
