If this was Hemingway's favourite lucky he wasn't a restaurant owner! Terrible tourist food. Only fixed menu at lunch. Interior attractive but that doesn't win over the horrible food. It's cheap though at 13.50 Euros but worth every penny!! Nice position in square but skip the lunch food.

We didn't have a meal here, only various drinks and a dish of fried squid after a trawl around several bars eating largely indifferent tapas on a chaotic festival night in September.

The Ricards served here are in spectacularly generous Spanish measures and they and the wine we had was no more expensive than anywhere else. For some reason, they won't serve you a bottle of wine unless you're having a sit down meal so we bought several rounds that seemed to come down in price as the evening got later.

The squid was fine, certainly better than anything else we had that night and the service at the bar was gruff at first but eventually convivial. They were also models of efficiency compared with one or two other places which were only equally swamped with revellers but unable to cope.

The atmosphere at the bar was lively and the place is a treat to the eye. It's a literary historic site and could be a rip off joint if it wanted to be.Compare the prices here with Deux Magots in Paris which trades heartily on its literary past at an eye watering mark up and,in my opinion, has much less atmosphere.

I certainly won't go to Pamplona again without dropping in for a drink and another bowl of squid.

The view to the Plaza del Castillo is magnificent. It is a great place to sit outside, have a drink, and enjoy. We had lunch the next day. The food was not to the standards of other places to have 'Pinxos'. We definitely recommend it to have a drink, but it is not the place to have a meal!

This was the only bad meal we had in Spain. The vegetables were an indiscernible bowl of starchy mush and their gravy tasted like it was made from a cheap powdered gravy mix. We seemed like an absolute burden to the waiter, even though he visited our table maybe a total of 3 times. My husband dubbed this place Cafe "I ruin your" dinner.

Ernest Hemingway's hangout (don't forget to visit the "museum" next door) is a big draw among tourists, but the locals seem to contribute to most of the business, which is a good sign. Food and drinks are very good and the prices are right. Don't miss this unique place in one of Spain's most beautiful cities and prettiest regions.
