Description: Founded in 1888 by a group of locals, was the first settlement with electricity from Pamplona, "opened to the public on the eve of San Fermin by filling to the porches", say the Chronicles of the time followed year after year, and still is the meeting point of all the locals, and all those foreigners who want to see the local who became world famous writer Ernest Hemingway.

We stopped off here for a mid afternoon drink on a very hot afternoon. It was all very relaxed and prices were reasonable. As with many European Cafes there was no rush what ever and with free wifi available we whiled away some of the hotter part of the day here in the shade. We came back again in the evening and being a bit early for many other eateries we decided to have some some Tapas which was very reasonably priced and filled us nicely. Only minor criticism was that the waiter in the evening appeared a little grumpy, but we all have off days I suppose and it wouldn't stop me returning....

Very disappointed. This cafe comes highly recommended in travel guides; Ernest Hemmingway used to frequent here.

Living on past glory a bit. Service was indifferent and while the beer was cold the Pinxtos were very stale; arguably 24+ hours old. A poor outcome and not one Hemmingway would attach his name to today.

The cafe is situated on a main tourist square and the lunch menu is €13,90. We decided to try the cafe as it looked interesting and the menu had a reasonable range of choices. The interior is almost the epitome of faded grandeur and the atmosphere of the place matches. However the meal was excellent, the choice of drinks is beer, water or wine, in spite of one of us having water we were given a bottle of wine. The menu has a range of options and there is a supplement for a (large) steak or lamb. The food we had was well presented, very enjoyable and the service was professional. All in all a very pleasant lunch and we would go again.

On a beautiful day I can't think of a better place to enjoy a good meal and take in the atmosphere.
The day was beautiful and the food was even better!
Two good meals with drinks for less than €30.
Staff went out of their way to help.

I first went to cafe iruna 8 years and remember a great menu del dia. It was therefore a natural choice when we returned. The menu is such good value for money with lots if options for each course. The food is great, fresh and tasty. The service can be a little hit and miss but generally ok. It is located right in the centre in the main plaza so is great to sit outside on a sunny day. Would most definitely recommend. Not to be missed!
