“A peaceful retreat”
Reviewed 20 March 2014

This small hotel is a real find. It is in a peaceful village away from the bustle of the main Cotswold villages, although the main centres of interest are easily accessible. The food is excellent and the service first class. The rooms are worthy of a five class grading. I can find no fault with this hotel and am recommending it to all my friends. We shall be returning.

We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend The FN accommodation to friends and family. Our room (Pheasant Nest) was very well equipped and newly decorated. The paint fumes were quite evident on arrival, so we decided to keep the windows open all night and by next day the odour had mostly disappeared. The FN's location is perfect for anyone wishing to visit the pretty local Cotswold villages and to enjoy the wonderful breathtaking views of the countryside. Ours was a 2-night MID-WEEK stay at end of January and we found every one of the staff helpful and eager to please. The food is interesting and tasty and the restaurant follows more a fine dining route, rather than the usual gastro pub experience. At least this was the case during our stay. We were the only resident guests on our first night, and the restaurant was pretty much empty on both evenings. This obviously enabled the staff to give us their full attention at all times throughout our meal. I am sure some people may have found the waiting staff a little too enthusiastic, but we were more than happy to be cosseted. We were shocked to read some of the negative comments about the staff and their general attitude - our experience was completely positive. Having said that, we feel it's probably best to make a reservation if you wish to eat at The FN and we suggest perhaps this is not a place to drop into and expect a swift pie and a pint. Although we have to say, the beers on offer are delicious and we envy the locals who can visit in the summer months and enjoy a long lingering pint in the well kept gardens.

Room Tip: Pheasant Nest is lovely room - 1st floor, up steep stairs. Wardrobe space a little limited.. Bath an...

Setting is beautiful, place is nice but service needs to up its game. It took a long time to get a drink at the bar and then the waitress wasn't especially forthcoming on what the food was. Potentially trying to be too much of what it's not sadly

No matter what mood you're in the feathered ticks the box!
Romantic tables or a table in the lively bar area - next to a fire!
For me it's all about the food, and wow the feathered does not disappoint on any level - it's right up there with the finest of Michelin restaurants whilst also letting you have the steaks and chips fix sometimes needed :)
It's a special place and somewhere you should visit. Enjoy!

The owners must have spent a small fortune on this pub with rooms.
We have eaten there three times now and it never disappoints.
Service, food, ambience, views, decor, furnishings and attention to detail are without fault.

Having spent 14 years in search of that little bit of perfection and idealistic country pub retreat I stumbled upon The Feathered Nest" country Inn.

For so many years I have read fluffed up write ups of so many perfect Cotswold country Inns and pubs only to find that the authors were all obviously wearing rose tinted glasses, or they possibly didn`t get out much !!.

Having read such articles I have travelled miles only to be disappointed on all fronts.
I can now honestly say that I have found the holy grail of country Inn`s ! .

Yes it has that roaring log fire with huge comfy sofa`s, it has a stunning wine list with over 200 worldwide wines to choose from,(including a good selection by the glass).
It has a barman/Sommelier with great knowledge and care, coupled with interactive ability and professionalism that is rarely seen in establishments in the UK today.

Passionate owners with a brilliant eye for detail and a determination to ensure that their new found project will become a beacan for all Inns and restaurants nationwide.

This is a place that you want to go, chill out and enjoy without pomposity but with all the homely trimmings of that perfect idyll and retreat.

The Inn has 4 well presented suites with quality fixtures and fittings throughout, comfortable beds and pillars that I now need to get for my own home ! showers that you can just stand under until your skin looks like a pickled walnut whilst scrubbing up with quality Algotherm products.

The Feathered nest have owners that know what they like and proud to share what they have.

Needless to say you need the food to support such environment and location, and what a joy to be able to report that they have developing talent and passionate drive to deliver a quality menu that can exceed several Michelin star restaurants that I have frequented in the past. Certainly one to keep an eye on, as this kitchen has the potential to make a name for itself !!

A newly built kitchen as well as smoke house and game larder, deer and trout from their own land, and at this point I must add, views across the Cotswolds, to die for,

Wonderfully friendly polite and relaxed front of house team (without being over familiar) delivers the feeling that you are a regular, despite it being your first visit, and in all honesty from now on, I hope I will be !

Located in a beautiful village, this beautiful pub has 4 residential rooms, a restaurand and a quirky bar with stool seats made out of saddles, and lovely roaring fires. Dogs are allowed in the bar area but not the bedrooms. The restaurant is of good quality - the soufflés are to die for. Carl the barman provides an unusual wine list & the service from him is very good, as is the restaurant staff, although it did let itself down at breakfast when asked to deliver the toast straight away, it was the last thing to arrive.
The bedrooms are very well appointed with all mod cons, a large range of complimentary tea, coffee, biscuits and fresh fruit. We stayed in Dovecote room, which had lots of stairs to reach so no good for disabled access. There was a double bed but could have a further 2 persons staying as there was a single bed in the room with a pullout bed beneath. After a full weekend, the only complaint is the quality of bed. The mattress is just on the edge, relatively poor quality, but the pillows and quilt were of terrible hollow fibre £5 type - come on management, a good sleep us the icing on the cake, get down to John Lewis & get some feather pillows!
Would highly recommend this establishment.
