Villa Del Mar Hotel
Ranked #5 of 192 Hotels in Benidorm

Reviewed 4 May 2013

This time last year I was writing my first review of this hotel and here i am wondering what more I can say this time. Oh yes......this time our 19 year old daughter came with us for her first trip to Benidorm. Now for those people that dont want to hear the same thing over again....look away now.

We travel between April 9th and 13th for a short break. As we walking in to the reception we were met with a "welcome back" from the lovely Veronica. Our room wasnt ready so we went for some lunch and a "welcome back" from Aida. Going to the bar for some drinks we get a "ahhhhhh...welcome back...(big hand shake)" from Alex. Eldest daughter suitably impressed by the fact that the staff all knew us but thats just how its been for us at this hotel. Its most important asset is its staff and ,for us, their most important person is you.

Room was ready and once again we had been given an upgrade to a sea-view room. On the second floor so we were initially a little worried about the traffic noise but it was never a problem. We were a little worried as to how the room would cope with the extra person but it was absolutely fine (2 adults, 2 teenagers....plenty big enough!)

Food at meal times (of which if you factor in snack times there are many) was varied and with two potential fussy eaters we never had a problem with them getting something. Sometimes meals were good, sometimes excellent. The only things i had which i didnt like were a couple of "never tried before" items which i decided to try. Ahh well, now I know.

Other people (including myself previously) have stated that the night time entertainment is not "the best show in town" but a couple of nights we ventured down and had a good laugh but wanting to show our eldest the town we actually went out a couple of nights. The location of the hotel means that it takes 10 minutes at a slow stroll to get into the old town, and more importantly, only 10 minutes to get back. The Levante side of Benidorm is close enough to visit but far enough away not to adversely impact your holiday.

The girls (my wife and 2 daughters) loved soaking up some rays on the roof terrace. Its just a quiet oasis where you can relax and do nothing or simply take in the views of the bay.

All in all another fab time at the hotel. Honestly cant say a bad word about it. (I have had to give the children activities an "average" only because our kids were too old for kids stuff so cant say anything good or bad about them)

Room Tip: Sea view rooms are best. Very high and very low rooms appear to be able to pick up the public area...

We stayed here with a group of friends, all couples for a 5 day break. The hotel is ideally located just across a quiet road from the Poniente Beach and an easy stroll into the Old town with all its shops, tapas bars and cafes.
We arrived around lunchtime and were greeted with a lovely chilled glass of Cava in the clean modern reception area. The reception staff were efficient and helpful advising us that we could leave our luggage in the locked room behind reception until our rooms were ready at around 2.30pm. They issued us with temporary all inclusive cards and invited us to have lunch while waiting for our rooms. The dining room is fairly small but we always found vacant tables, sometimes with the help of the excellent restaurant staff.
We all really enjoyed the food here and found there was a good choice of soups, tapas, salads, cold meats, fish, carved hot meats, paella, seafood, stews, pies, veg, potatoes, chips, hot desserts, cakes, ice cream, cheese and fruit. As with any buffet style meal it's always better if you have a look along the buffet first before piling a mixture of flavours on your plate! The restaurant was open 0830-1100 for breakfast, 1200-1530 for lunch and 1930-2200 for dinner and there were also small tapas style snacks available most of the time in the bar area.
The wine served with meals was bottles of white, rose and a lovely Rioja red. Bottles of water were also available on the all inclusive card.
The rooms were very clean and well furnished with large comfortable beds, flat screen tv's, a safety deposit box (3 euro per day charge) and a small couch and table but no mirror. The sea view rooms have a lovely outlook and some rooms have a large corner jacuzzi overlooking the sea.The bathrooms were modern with a large shower head and multi-jets over a large bathtub, twin sinks and a hairdryer. Towels and linen were frequently changed.
The small, quiet pool area is on the 2nd floor at the rear of the hotel. There were some sunbeds and umbrellas laid out and around 10 more beds piled up near the gym. The pool is covered but not heated. The door to the pool is locked before 1000 and after 1800.
There is a spa on the 9th floor which is open from 1000-1800 and you get 1 free hour if you're staying for 7 nights all inclusive, otherwise it's 13 euro per person plus you need a cap and shoes which are 3 euro. There are various treatments available such as manicure 15 euro, pedicure 23 euro and massages from 26-82 euro. Also on this level is the chill out bar which has lovely sea views and large white sunbeds and couches, although space is limited. This is open from 1000-1900 and is lovely for a late afternoon cocktail or bottled beers( Estrella or Heineken.)
The only thing we found lacking in this hotel was the entertainment which was karaoke for 2 nights, a magician one night and a quiz another. We've stayed at other Magic hotels and have seen good comedians and singers. The entertainment room is lovely with clean modern furniture, stage, dancefloor and the bar stays open until midnight.
There's free wi-fi on the ground and 9th floors and coin operated computers in the reception area.
We all had a great time here and found it was an ideal hotel for couples. It's not geared towards children and is a bit far away from all the action of the Strip in the New town for stag and hen parties!

Room Tip: Pay extra for a sea view

Very nice hotel in a great location on the sea front. We booked a sea view and you can open the double windows to get plenty of sea air. The rooms are well designed with the beds facing the windows and a small sofa behind making it feel a good place to relax. The terrace on the hotel roof including the bar are a nice place to hang out. The food was good quality. The options for vegetarians became a bit repetitive although there were some options, usually different cheeses and the salads were nice. This wouldn't put me off staying again but it is always good to know what to expect. The meat eaters in our party enjoyed their options. We enjoyed our holiday here and if you want to visit Benidorm, I would recommend.

This is a good hotel, room clean and smart even though we looked on to the graveyard, food was excellent, staff were helpful and friendly. That's where it ended. The hotel entertainment was not good unless you like watching football on a Friday, parrot show, Snakes and owls to touch and something resembling Play Your Cards Right, a magician, two dancers and two or three nights of karaoke. There was little or no atmosphere and the smell of the drains in the lounge could be very noticeable. We stayed in the hotel over Easter and it was full of children and Spaniards shouting at each other in the too small restaurant. We had to report the television faulty about three times and the plug kept leaking in the sink which was fixed at the second attempt. There are few sunbeds on the roof terrace and around the pool so you need to be quick if you want one. I would go back to this hotel but it would have to be adults only and better entertainment.

Room Tip: Go for a room with a jacuzzi & sea view

Thank you to everyone @ VDM - stayed at this hotel 15/04/2013 for 5 nights with 6 friends and it was fantastic experience from start to finish. The Hotel was kept spotless and it felt special, the rooms were really modern and you did'nt mind spending time there not like other Hotel's where you cant wait to get out of the room as they can feel chlosterphobic. The food was great and plentiful from hot & cold meats, vegetables, pasta's, fish, soups, cheese & crackers, an authentic Tapas section which was a nice touch plus they had cakes and fresh fruit & ice cream in abundance. The table service offered was a real pat on the back to all involved as it added to the experience. Got to mention the roof top bar, this is probably the best way to view Benidorm as it offers the best panoramic views whilst lazing away in a well designed lay out of lounges and stoolsas you sip away on whatever you drink, the bars offer all branded drinks and have a selection of bottled beer which I opted for Heineken. This Hotel is the one for any couples or group of friends who want a top class stay in a brilliant resort. 10 out of 10 to all at Villa del mar
Cheers

My 4th time in Benidorm my Husbands 1st so I wanted o make a good impression as I Love Benidorm, so I went a bit more up market than I usually do ( I normally go away with friends) so I booked a Hotel with good reviews. We booked a Jacuzzi Room Sea View what a beautiful room, amazing view over looking the sea it was spotless and Quiet. The Staff where Lovely and very helpful, I think the only down side for us was the choice of food it was all a bit of a miss- mash we thought so we stuck to salads with meat and rice but it was ok we didn't eat out so it was just ok, the Restaurant was quite small so if you didn't make it by 7;30pm you would have to queue but as I said it was ok maybe more 3 star rating for food. The Hotel was well situated for a walk into the old Town for shopping and cafe's and we enjoyed the Beach we never used the pool as we didnt need to if you like a pool on holiday then this is not the Hotel for you as it is roof top with no view. All said we would go back to this Hotel.

gorgeous hotel, had a beautiful sea view to wake up to each morning in a lovely room. Very clean and modern . Food was plentiful, varied and tasty too, no complaints there. Our only fault was that we thought we had booked a deluxe holiday and expected to get a jacuzzu room, we didnt make a fuss as the room we were giving was a sea view and was lovely anyway. We found out later in the holiday that a disabled man needed a large room so was upgraded to a jacuzzu room free of a charge, i think he probably got ours as we arrived on the same day, same flight.. only we chose to explore the hotel whilst waiting for our room to be ready, we ended up spending the whole afternoon on the roof, fantastic view of the beach /sea , spotless bar and every drink you can think of included.. great start to our holiday .
Staff were lovely , helpful and pleasant. didnt have any problems over seating at the bar areas whatsoever, there was seating outside, couple tables inside, leather seating in reception. Later in the evening the entertainment room opens anyway where there is plenty of seating. This room was lovely, just the right size, very modern. We didnt get to make use of the spa, simply because we didnt manage to fit it in,as we were only there for a week . and every day we went for a wander into the new town, met lots of people young and old , watch out for the mobility scooters and the spanish pushing dogs in prams ! This hotel is in a class of its own, if you dont want to be in the middle of the stag / hen party scene , and you prefer a little more luxury then this is the hotel . We certainly plan to go back and highly reccomended .
