“Good value - lovely time had”
Reviewed 18 March 2014

We had e-mailed the hotel before we went to request a high floor but when we arrived we were given a room on the third floor. We complained and were offered a room on the top floor but it smelled very strongly of smoke although the hotel is non smoking. We were offered a room which would be free three days later but decided to stay where we were as the room was clean, large and got the sun in the afternoon. We were given a bottle of wine and chocolates as an apology for not getting the room we requested. All the staff were lovely. The food was ok but it was really cheap to eat out so we did most of the time. The hotel was very clean. Great value for the money and would defiantly go back.

This hotel rates itself as 2 star and Thomson rate it as 3T. We stayed here (1st time) for three weeks in Feb/March and the hotel certainly offers good value for money. However there were some issues - mainly with the food quality.
Public Areas: Are clean, large and spacious. I thought it looked a bit dated but the Thomson website states there has been a recent 'refurb'. The entertainment takes place in the main bar/lounge and is very professional. Outside the main bar is a large wooden veranda with tables/chairs and a few sunbeds. These overlook the pool area where there are many more sunbeds available. There is also another 'quiet' lounge, TV room, the 'Pop Inn' pub, and the Rio Connections Bar.
Reception: Always at least one person on duty. Hiring a safe seemed expensive.
Bedrooms: Basic and a bit on the small side, however, the bathroom is quite large and includes a full sized bath with shower over. The bathroom door would not shut and we had to ask TWICE (on day 2 and day 7 before it was fixed). The hot water supply is excellent - very hot water within seconds and a copious supply which fills the bath in minutes/provides an invigorating shower. The bath towels a decent size! Flat screen TV with a 'touch' panel with BBC1, ITV, Ch4, SkyNews etc. Our room was at the back (no sun on the balcony), so ask for a 'pool view' room when you check-in.
Breakfast: Usual cooked/cold items. The sausages & bacon were not very nice (cheap) and always dark brown and overcooked.
Lunch & Dinner: Large island unit with 20 or so hot trays containing various dishes. Separate Salad and Dessert Bars. There was always a choice of soups. These were sometimes packet (I think) and sometimes homemade (tasty!). Always two pasta dishes. The rest varied each day from roast beef & yorkshires, casseroles, curries, chicken pieces, pork steak, accompanied with various veg, rice, and ALWAYS chips etc. The meat (such as beef, chops etc) always seemed to be overcooked and tough! (The lamb chops I had on the last night were like leather!) Vegetables were also overcooked - almost to a mush in some cases! Fish: Usually at least one fish on offer and these were good. NOTE TO THE MANAGEMENT: Please get rid of those awful 'swinging sixties' (London bus/Beatles) wipe-clean table cloths which are in use for breakfast, lunch, & dinner. Fed up of seeing them!! At least have white cloths at dinner!
Bar & Dining Room Staff: Very very friendly and efficient. Very good prices. A bottle of house wine was 4.5 euros (about £3.90). A pint in the bar 2 euros, and spirits also a good price.
Conclusion: We plan to return to Benidorm this year (5th time). I believe this hotel offers good value for money and, despite reservations regarding the food, we would certainly consider Rio Park again.

We have been home a week from the Rio Park and we are still laughing about the carry on of the people. It started with the transfers to the hotel. We reached Benidorm when there was a festival on late at night. The coach driver had problems getting up the narrow streets and took the wing mirrors on the parked cars and didn't seem to be concerned one bit. When we arrived at the hotel we were greeted by the sight of about 20 mobility scooters lined up on charge ready for the next day.
What can I say about the Rio Park. Very clean, lovely staff and good food, bar prices were very good. The only negative point is the entertainment. We are in our early sixties and We did feel a bit out of place as the majority of people there were a lot older than us and I do think this reflects in the entertainment. The highlight of the week was the antics of the people who holiday there regular. The new manager started the day we arrived and from what we heard from various guests that he intends to make changes. I don't know if this will be a good or bad for the Rio Park as a lot of the guests this time of year seem to have been return guests for many many years and have a really good time. This was my husbands first experience of Benidorm (I have been before ) and I was apprehensive as we normally go to Greece were everything is laid back and no high rises builidings, but I can honestly we had a great holiday and would probably go to the Rio Park aagain if we ever go back to Benidorm.

Room Tip: ask for a pool view. we were at the back and looked out onto 2, 30 floor appartment blocks.

The food was very good with a good selection, very reasonable bar prices, friendly and helpful staff especially those on reception. Rooms may be a bit tired but the hotel deserves more than two stars.

Room Tip: Choose a high floor, corner room and one over reception for sun most of the day.

we spent a week at hotel Rio Park from the 4th of March till 11th March, Six of us in total ,we had three rooms adjacent each other, We all agreed we could not fault the twin bedded rooms ,to which the maid came daily and kept the rooms spic and span even suppling us with extra pillows nothing was to much problem for her. the resturant was again first class and staff where always helpful and polite, the food was excellent with a wide range of choice, always something there for everyone . upstairs from resturant was Pacos Bar this is well worth a visit ,prices very reasonable and a good selection, special mention for Paco the barman he makes you feel really welcome even in early hours of the morning , we are all looking forward to returning again soon.give it a go you will love it.

Room Tip: higher floors are quieter

This was a last minute surprise 70th birthday treat for me organised by my sneaky wife. This really is an excellent hotel the 2 stars on the hotel front doesn't really do it justice. We found the food really good and diverse - the staff very friendly and helpful and although the entertainment was a bit dated it seemed to suit the mainly elderly people on holiday in March 2014. The new manager was always on hand for a friendly chat as was his new young staff. Altogether a very enjoyable stay - good food - fantastic weather - very reasonable drink prices - very clean - lovely staff - We shall definitely stay at this hotel next time in Benidorm - just another thought it was very good value for what we paid

Underated by far. Stayed in this hotel in july 2013 for 19 nights and couldnt have been more suprised. By the price my initial thoughts were it would just b a cheapy middle of the road hotel, but it was far from that.
Location is fab for being near enough to the nightlife without being stuck right on top of it. The beach is about a 10/15 minute walk too.
The food was fantastic, im rather fussy but always had lots of choice. Breakfasts in particular were great with ommelettes made to your liking in front of you. Not what im used to in a 3* spanish hotel.
The pool area is really spacious and you can always get a bed around it whatever the time of the day.
The pools snack bar is really handy for lunch, serving pizzas, toasties, baguettes chips, that sort of thing. Tasty and good prices. One of the guys that worked on there seemed to take an instant dislike to me and would always serve me last even though people would say i was before them, he point blank disliked me.i didnt lose sleep over that issue though.
The rooms were nice and cleaned almost every day. Although having 3 sharing a room gets a bit of a tight squeeze.
Fab hotel. Will definately return
