Dear hollylizzie
Thank you for your comments.
We notice that you didnt actually stay in the hotel, but took the opportunity to visit us when you were in Benidorm.
As you have stated, feedback for the Hotel Rio Park from our guests is very positive, the locations is ideal, being 5 mins walk to the beach, and away from noise, but obviously everyone looks for different things in a hotel when planning their holiday.
Kind regards
Sue

Returned from 2 weeks at the rio park on 23rd april, our first visit since the new management team have taken over. We have stayed at the rio around 15 times over the last 8 years,i have never bothered doing a review before as everybody was saying what we thought so i kind of thought no point, but now i think there is some clarity needed ! Things have clearly changed not all for the better, firstly what you have too understand about this hotel is that the people that go there want simple english food.drink & entertainment.Bingo has been scrapped, staff shows in the evening are not as they were not sure if thats good or bad thing! The main changes though are in the restaurant, it is definitly on a downward trend from the standard of cleaning/table clearing some staff look to have no interest anymore with the exception of Paras who we have known for some years and is only there as sickness cover( they need to keep him permantly ) But the most noticeable thing is the food, breakfast is allways fine bacon is rubish but that seems to be the case anywhere in spain, salads & deserts are generally good . main problems are under/over cooking of meats & veg , never having the right veg to make a proper meal ,always having spanish sauce instead of gravy, spanish sauce is a really sweet type of gravy not really suitable for beef, cottage pie was full of spinach, spag bol with no bolognaise sauce, beef served with no veg only chips! You would never go hungry but poor quaility menu planning is the problem. We did talk too the new manager David with our comments who was very interesterd in what we had to say the next day we had a lenghthy chat with David and the new head chef who admitted he had not cooked this type of food before he seemed to understand what was required for the type of guest at the rio park, only time will tell ,but its ranking is slightly down on what it was untill febuary. To end on a positive note most of the staff are still really good & work hard.

Room Tip: floor 12 pool view if you have a choice

Thank you very much for your comments. We very much value your loyal custom to the hotel and would just like to clarify a couple of points.
We are currently reviewing the entertainment programme to make sure that its relevant and entertaining for the many customers in the hotel. The Entertainment team and Management are taking on board all customer feedback . Bingo cannot be part of the entertainment provided by a hotel- this is a requirement of the local authorities.
I am very glad to hear that you discussed your concerns with the food with David while you were in the hotel. This kind of first hand feedback is so important to us and will have been helpful to the team. We understand that food is a very important part of the holiday and we aim to always provide a varied menu. We will continue to work to make sure the quality is of a good standard.
Thank you again for your kind comments about the staff. We hope to welcome you back to the Rio Park in the future.

We only booked for a week this time due to management change over, the atmosphere in the hotel has completely changed since Jose retired. This is a hotel people return to year after year, I am not quite so sure now. The quality of the food has gone down, you could quite easily go out for meals most evening.
The staff remain as always the wonderful friendly people they have been for years. There is a new entertainment programme, which has improved drastically, but staff shows are greatly missed. The entertainment staff need to role play more with the clients, as there is room for improvement in attitude. Reception, bar staff and Gabrielle are priceless to the Rio Park. Not sure if we will return.

Room Tip: Try to book facing the pool in a corner position.

I am very sorry to hear that you think the Rio Park has changed since the retirement of José. Please rest assured that the hotel is operating in the same way, and as you so kindly say, the same staff are in place and are doing us proud by continuing to give our guests a really good service . We are very pleased to hear that you are so happy with the staff in the hotel and we will make sure your praise is passed on.
We understand and appreciate your support to José as the Manager of the hotel up until february of this year, but José has left the hotel in extremely capable hands and Medplaya will ensure that our guests continue to be happy with their stay in the Rio Park.
We are reviewing services such as entertainment as we believe its always important to refresh and review things and where possible, make improvements. Our aim continues to be that our guests have a very enjoyable stay in the hotel with us and the Management continue to have this as their key priority.
We sincerely hope we will welcome you back to the Rio Park in the future .

Recently returned from Rio Park (won't go again). Everyone in hotel was complaining about something. Why call it a non smoking hotel when people underneath you sit and smoke on the balcony, you get all the smoke in your room. I don't want second hand smoke. Everyday you go to the dining room to find dirty table cloths and dirty cuttlery stuck to the cloth, go to the food area and find dirty crockery, i complained but it made no difference. Why use the hand sanitiser when you are going to eat with dirty crockery and cuttlery. Now for the food, cold, undercooked, overcooked, tasteless and very little choice, if you go to the resturaunt manager with cold food he tells you to use the microwave, and I would like to know what Turkey Cutlets are because it certainly isn't Turkey. No variety of salads, queue's for food (not enough cooked) The old management under Jose (brilliant) but this new management haven't got a clue. There are a few nick names going around for the manager and his understudy. They walk round in their suit's trying to look the part, (sorry, which part is that). Now for the Animation crew, who the hell does Ashley think he is cos he isn't a leader, someone who looks down at you when he speaks to you, needs to go back to school and learn costomer relations. Some of the Band/Singers where good but the Bird acts are for a Circus not a Hotel, one act, supposed to be an Acrobatic act from Cuba was disgusting (the guy in the monkey suit was Sexualy Deprived) and children saw it. I overheard Ashley telling someone, that he had booked it, he liked it, so they where performing. The lady sat beside me was crying because of what the Monkey man was doing (disgusted with it all). When you have seen one Soul/Motown tribute you have seen them all, so i dont want to see about 4 more in 2 weeks. One act was advertised as The Eagle's show, everyone thought it was a tribute to the Eagle's band, Oh, how we where fooled, it was Owl's and other Large birds of prey, (in a Hotel with low ceiling's, don't think so). Then we had a Parrot show, again large bird's flying in a low ceiling area, get a life Ashley, it's a hotel not a Big Top, or is that where your last job was (Benidorm Circus) cos 3 of your acts are from a Circus. The crew trying to act out Grease and Dirty Dancing work hard but for me they are Wannaby's. Everything about the Hotel has or will be changed in the next few months. I can see where the manager is going, he want's the younger holiday families and to get rid of the Pensioners who have kept the hotel afloat. It is now a sinking ship. Jose and his team kept a ship to be proud of, nothing to much trouble for staff, friendly smile, friendly hotel. Whilst in the Bar/Entertainment room you have a few quizes but you have to put up with the high volumn from the TV showing football all day everyday and night, couldn't hear the questions. There is more to life than football and there are different sports on the TV, Football 24/7 get a life. Yes, anyone who reads this may think it's a bit harsh, but it is the truth and it has gone direct to the manager and to Thomson's. We did request a low floor with a Pool veiw, no one took any notice of this, we got a low floor at the back overlooking Tennis Courts, all we could hear was plock, plock, plock from the Tennis balls on the rackets. When we asked for a change of room there where none, but when we asked to see a manager they soon found us a room with a pool veiw. If you are a regular visitor to the Rio (as we where) then believe me it is not the old Friendly Rio.

We are very sorry to hear that you feel the hotel has changed since the change of management and we have made sure that the Manager is aware of your comments and feedback .
Although the hotel management has changed, with regard to the service and facilities our guests receive, this has not changed. The whole staff team of the Rio Park are continuing to work to provide their guests with a good level of service and quality while they are in the hotel.
We are reviewing the entertainment provided in the hotel to make sure that our teams are offering relevant and entertaining activities. The Management are taking all customer feedback into account when developing the new entertainment offering.
We very much want to ensure that loyal customers return to the Rio Park and we are doing all we can hopefully to make sure this is the case . We do ask our guests to speak to our teams in the hotel if they have a problem on holiday, and I am sorry that perhaps this was not the case this time.

Deciding to take a cheap(ish) break to Spain with my grandchildren I had avoided Benidorm up until now because I had expected it to be rather tacky but I was pleasantly suprised.

The Beach is about 300 meters away, a gentle stroll downhill along a winding pedestrian path and yes, along the way, you will pass just about every type of reastuarnt and bar or place of entertainment known to man, you certainly arn't spoiled for choice. If that type of thing is not YOUR "Cup of tea" it is easy to avoid.

The Hotel provided copious quantaties of well cooked food on a buffet service with reasonably priced drinks. The pool area was clean and spacious with a sun and shde terrace but the pool was a tad cold for my liking although it didn't seem to stop the children except when they were taking part in the many organised activities.

Rooms are comfortable, each has a balcony and the TV has a range of English or English speaking stations. The view can be slightly spoiled by the unfinished hotels in the vicinity but that will change as Spain come out of the recession.

The bar area was well laid out and the entertainment of a good quality for the acts brought in, disco and Karoake if that is you bag went on until the early hours.

Free WiFi available in reception, lounge and terrace, occasionally the signal worked in my room on the 7th floor. They have a sports bar attached should you feel the need, a parking area with recharging @ €5 a day for the trundlers (Elderly persons buggies) if you need one, a small but well stock shop with friendly staff and a small childrens playground.

All in all I couldn't fault it and would warmly recommend it to famalies and pensioners although it may not be to the taste of the 18 to 30 set. My recommendation, use it as a cheap base, hire a car and get out and about. Benidorm is what you make of it, yes local bars sell Stella for €1 a PINT and a coffee for 60c, the beach has all the facilities you may need and is kept spotlessly clean. Its not often I say I will be going back to a place but I suspect this may be one of the few I do.

Room Tip: Pick a pool side room if you want afternoon sunshine and don't mind evening noise. The opposite...
