“Excellent Hotel”
Reviewed 2 May 2009

We booked this hotel based on reviews on trip advisor, having previously always stayed in 3 or 4 star hotels. The hotel far exceeded our expectations of a two star hotel and should definitely be a minimum 3 star compared to other hotels we have stayed at in the past. The hotel is very clean and modern both in the public areas and the bedrooms. Check-in was very quick and in general all the staff in the hotel were helpful and friendly. The entertainment was probably the best that we have ever seen in any hotel. The staff also put on funny little sketches towards the end of each evening, which were enjoyable. As the entertainment was good we stayed in the hotel in the evenings more than we would have normally. We felt that drink prices were good for hotel prices. We couldn’t fault the food in the restaurant, it was very good and the best cooked breakfast we have ever had in a Spanish hotel. There was a microwave available for use if your meal needed warming, however we never needed to use it. You need to hire a TV remote control from reception to be able to operate the TV. This costs 10 euros which is refundable when you checkout. The choice of British TV channels was the best we have ever had, including ITV1, True Movies, CNN and BBC news and two sports channels. There are 5 lifts in the hotel and these naturally could be busier during meal times, however we never experienced any long delays. There is building work on the next road but we found it didn’t affect us despite facing on to it. On the road below just along from the Hotel Castilla there are three bars which are cheap for drinks – 1 euro for a pint and 50cents for tea or coffee. The British bar “Cheap and Cheerful” was very popular. The hotel is in a good location, near to the main bars but far enough away to avoid the noise. We would definitely stay at this hotel again.

Just returned from the rio park this morning, hotel was very clean and modern, food was good a large choice spanish ovb. like roast beef and yorkshire puds ,but sometimes cold, using wipes before entering the dining room was good as it created a sense of cleanness although there is 5 lifts they are allways very busy around meal times 8-9.30AM 12.30pm-2.00pm 7.00pm-8.30pm which meant that you had to call every lift and everybody did the same therefore you usually stop on each floor, pool cold at this time of year but looked good if weather was better, sunlounger-chairs were a good idea as sunloungers did not sit up although both were uncomfortable and most people bought fold-up mattresses to put on them, rooms were clean walls very thin one evening we could here our neighbours snoring, good location right on yellow brick road! very cheap pub just round the corner "cheap and cheerful Bar" pint 1 euro and half 50cents

Stayed at the Rio Park 10th Feb 09 and must agree with most other reviewers that the hotel serves very good food and should be rated as a 3* hotel. It does lack comfort furnishings, and unfortunatly its Pop in Pub set aside is completely filled with smokers who make it impossible for non smokers to enjoy its quiet surroundings. Its position from the beach makes the 10 min stroll a pleasure for most part along a quiet pathway with trees and plants, ( most unusual in Benidorm). The evening entertainment on our visit was dire, apart from 2 chaps who could sing. The place was constantly being cleaned and the bar drinks were very well priced IMO. We like a holiday where you can relax on your balcony in the sun , but unfortunatly we did not get this, we had requested high floor, sunny balcony, pool view. We were offloaded a room on 2nd floor which would never see the sun, overlooking a busy building site and road. We were very dissapionted by the reaction from reception ,with their disinterested atitude on requesting if we could be moved. It is for this reason that we would not use the hotel again, be aware if you are sited at the rear of the hotel in the winter months it will be a bleak experience.

Just returned from the Rio Park Hotel, January this year, and had a good time, the food was excellent and we are both vegetarian but managed to get something suitable each night. My only complaint was the Walls of the Hotel are so thin, on arrival the first night was had to go ask the people in the next room to turn the TV down, as it was as if we had ours on it was so loud, they should have a volumn control on the TV's, we could hear the couple at the other side snoring each night and every word that was said, so I suggest you take ear plugs to get a good nights sleep.
Apart from that is was excellent and would go back again, with better ear plugs

  • Liked — East to get to the Sea, and go the other way to the Train and bus station
  • Disliked — Thin walls between all the Bedrooms
