“back to benidorm”
Reviewed 7 May 2014

After a gap of some eighteen months it was time for a return trip to Benidorm, on the costa blanca in spain. We stayed once again at the Magic hotel fenicia. The hotel was clean, the service was first class. The food in the restaurant was good but could do with being hotter.Bar staff, especially Duncan and Carol were great. We also visited the Magic cafe,at the hotel Cristal park, where we were entertained every night with music and quizzes etc............a big thank you to Anita and Trevor for their service and to Mark and Charly for the entertainment. As usual Benidorm was excellent, with weather to match. Here,s to the next time.

Visited Hotel Magic Fenicia on a couple of occasions during our stay at The Magic Benidorm Villa. As The Benidorm Villa is part of the Magic hotel chain, guests are able to visit any their other hotels where the All Inclusive facilities are honoured.

The hotel is tucked away in Benidorm Old Town & we found it quite tricky to find & a little hilly. Our taxi dropped us at the other side of the Balcon del Mediterraneo; it is beautiful up there but it was a bit of a struggle for me as I struggle with mobility. The walk down took us along Paseo Colon which is flat; we passed the marina & came to a very nice beach front park where are son was able to play. We had taken the scenic route & on the return journey we found it much more accessible through the centre of Benidorm passed the shops!

The exterior of the hotel appears dated but once inside the hotel has a generous modern reception area. The larger bar is accessible via reception, it has comfortable seating, large TV screens & is adequately air conditioned for the heat of August day times. Guests in the hotel appeared to be primarily Spanish.

This hotel had a large dining room which was modern, clean & airy. Food was All Inclusive as we in our own hotel just a bigger scale. We were made very welcome& there was no queue at lunch time.

We took the lift up from reception to the roof terrace where there is a few sunbeds & a children's splash pool, we were the only ones up there even mid afternoon. It is a little scruff however the views are beautiful, we found it very relaxing to be away from the hustle & bustle; we spent a good hour or so up here enjoying the sun.

Would certainly visit for lunch again when in Benidorm.

Room Tip: Imagine the views of Benidorm would be better the higher up the room.

Location is amazing for either old or new Benidorm and only 1 street from beach. Food was good and room was amazing and immaculate. Cleaned every day and with 3 kids including a 15 year old that's an achievement. Carol and Duncan were best staff ever and all staff went out of their way to help. Would highly recommend. A lot of older Spanish people but this just made experience better as no one bothered you, Big thanks to everyone :)

Room Tip: We had room 301 and it is ideal for family of 5

We booked a trip to Benidorm with some trepidation, worried that it would live up to the myth of drunken English yobs and stag parties, with never a Spaniard in sight. We deliberately picked the Magic Fenicia thinking that it looked as though it wouldn't have stag and hen parties and wouldn't be full of kids.
We were really pleasantly surprised that the hotel was 95% full of Spanish people and in fact we really wished we could hold a conversation beyond hello and goodbye in Spanish, as they were so friendly and constantly tried to talk to my daughter and I.
The location is brilliant, really close to the sea and you can get to either of the big main beaches easily, the small beach is close by and getting to the jetty for trips to Benidorm Island is just a five minute walk. The trip to the island is highly recommended and one of the highlights of our trip.
The shopping in Benidorm was also a surprise, ranging from Primark type price shops to designer Gucci, Michael Kors etc. Some lovely restaurants and cafes too.
The restaurant manager was really helpful and speaks excellent English, all the bar staff are great too and will help you with general advice as well as dispensing drinks. If you crave a conversation with a genuine English person then two of the bar staff are actually English.
We thought our room was absolutely fine - two good sized beds in our twin room, a little seating area and a view to the sea. There was a flat screen TV which we didn't really use as we only speak English and French so there was only a choice of CNN or TV5. Being able to chill on the sofa in the early evening and look out over the bay to the little harbour with the gigs going out was lovely.
Not having the aircon which was promised when we booked through Thomas Cook was really disappointing and we were advised by reception that this is not on in the winter. For us Brits, of course, temperatures of mid 20s to 27C are what we consider really hot. This meant we had to have the windows open at night and inevitably got bitten - take bite cream with you, we paid 7.95 Euros for a tube of bite cream!
The food was acceptable - breakfast was always pretty good although get down early if you want croissants, they get gobbled up pretty quickly. For lunch and evening meal we pretty much lived on salads and bread rolls but there was plenty of choice if you wanted hot food, also tons of different desserts although we usually just went for fruit - a whole mountain of different fruits to choose from.
The swimming pool was another highlight of the hotel - I found it a perfect temperature, certainly not cold or smelly as some other people have said. The jacuzzi was also nice altho tended to get busy.
Take a look at where the hotel is if you're getting a shuttle bus from the airport - our driver dropped us off vaguely in the right place but didn't know which street it was on, a bit disconcerting especially when you've been up since 3am.
The girls on reception seem a bit frosty at first but I think would seem much friendlier if you spoke Spanish. They warm up and we were quite fond of them by the end. We did have a disconcerting incident with a male receptionist - we asked him to ring up to book horse riding for us as my Spanish is pretty non existent. He made the two minute call for us and then wanted a 10 Euro commission on top of the 40 Euro cost we knew it should be from having looked it up on the website. Thankfully the trip got cancelled before I had to worry about this but it left a really nasty taste in my mouth and I wouldn't advise asking reception to book anything for you!!
The cleanliness of the hotel was really impressive, they clean and reclean all the food areas after each serving. The maid service is brilliant and the maids are super friendly. We had sparkling wine and biscuits as a gift in our room one evening which was a really nice touch.
There is wifi - tickets available from a machine in reception - but don't expect it to work at 'normal' broadband speed and sometimes it doesn't work at all.
Overall this was a great place to stay for first timers to Benidorm - great location, some lovely staff, very clean and has everything you need.

Room Tip: The rooms with sea view don't have balconies

This was my first visit to Benidorm.Every member of staff is extremely friendly and helpful I particularly enjoyed the Tea Time and the breakfast buffet which was excellent. My only remark is that the hotel, especially the rooms, could do with some renovation, especially the Tv.Good location, you will find yourself at home. If I return to Benidorm , this is the place I want to stay over again!

just returned from this hotel and has other travellers have stated this hotel caters for mainly spanish guests,at this time of the year this means mainly spanish pensioners so mealtimes can be chaotic the rooms are of a good size and cleaned every day with fresh towels we stayed for 10 days and were presented with a bottle of sparkling wine and fruit on 2 occasions.the staff are very helpful esp kamran the resturant manager who helped to upgrade our all inclusive to ultra all inclusive our son & daughter in law + grandkids were staying at the villa del mar which is a sister hotel but we couldnt use our normal all inclusive there has this is a four star so it helped to be upgraded our room was 529 which had a lovely view of the marina the entertainment is quite good but hard to get aseat has it starts with dancing till about 10.30 so is usually full has the spanish love their dancing we would go back to stay with this group having stayed in a number of hotels they own

Room Tip: most rooms dont have balconys so a room with a view of the harbour gets the sun in the afternoon

I booked this for my husbands 50th Birthday weekend break. On arrival we were dropped just round the corner as the streets are a bit tight in the old town. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Our room was not ready so we went to the bar for a well deserved drink, the bar man Jesus was nice too he brought us some crisps as we had missed breakfast and snacks and lunch had not started just yet. tThey locked our luggage away and we went exploring. The hotel does cater for mainly spanish at this time of year, who can be rude, but there were English guests too. But we only used the hotel to eat and as a base point and to sleep. The lunch salads are very much the same but the hot foods were different. You deffinately will not go hungry. They have hot and cold desserts too from apple pie to ice cream. The sister hotel Cristal park, is just round the corner and you can use their facilities too.
The indoor pool is lovely and jacuzzi although you have to pay for sauna. There is a roof terrace which gives good views but is being renovated for the summer with new tiles.
Our room had two rooms like a suite, with a separate room for if you have children with sofa bed and balcony.
Basically a lovely central hotel for a short break.

Room Tip: ask for a suite on the end very quiet
