Got back from this hotel yesterday (12th June) and have to say we were VERY disappointed with it.Had heard mainly good reviews about it and expected that with the recent refurb it would be even better.Sadly not.
From the minute we checked in we knew maybe things weren't to be as expected. We arrived on a late flight so got there around 11:30 at night so obviously there weren't many people to check in and indeed didn't see anyone else around at all.The person on reception could not have been less pleased to see us and immediately demanded our passports. When asked why all we got was a curt 'for computer'.Our room card was then virtually thrown at us and when we asked for a safe key we were told we couldn't have one till the morning as there was no-one around to help us with that.So it was either take all our holiday money out with us on a very busy Saturday night or take a chance and leave it unattended in the room. Not a good start....
We went down for breakfast the next day and were treated to the worst hotel food i have ever had anywhere,Truely horrible, stone cold and dripping with grease. There were microwaves to warm it up but to be blunt you shouldn't have to.From that day on it was toast and cereal every morning.Sadly, lunch and dinner were not much better and although there were choices of fish, meat etc it was just not prepared very well. There was a guy cooking on a barbecue fresh meat, chicken and fish but on the couple of occasions i did try it they were raw in the middle.
Before we travelled we knew we were going to be near 'the square' and expected a bit of noise at night but it actually turned out to be quite a lot...most days until 5 sometimes 6 in the morning.Previous reviews mention that the double glazing keeps a lot of it out which it does but it is still very noticable and we are not light sleepers. It woke us constantly throughout the night, every night.Shamefully this was not the only noise. It seemed that there was a constant stream of stag and hen parties being checked in and the place they all wanted to meet up and get rowdy was round the pool.Despite constant complaints from numerous guests nothing was done until the last day of our holiday when they put a guard on the entrance to the pool.Still never saw him even approach the stags/hens though. It meant that basically the pool was a no-go area as for most people it was just too intimidating.
Having asked on our first day for an extension to our room as we had a late flight back we were told it shouldn't be a problem and given a price (a pretty extortionate €33.10 for 6 hours!) and to check back later in the week. This we did, numerous times but even on the day we were due to check out they still couldnt give us one.As you can imagine not ideal when you have to check out at 12 and then dont fly for 10 and a half hours.
Overall there wasn't really anything positive to say about this place. We actually did get a smile from one of the waiting staff on our last day which made us laugh but maybe that was because they knew we were leaving!
Generally we are pretty laidback people and go with the flow but we worked hard to have our first holiday in many years and feel it would have been spent better elsewhere. Many other people are in our position so i would urge you to give this one a miss.
Hope this is of help to some of you.
