“Quick visit to Benidorm”
Reviewed 29 July 2014

Our whistle stop tour to Benidorm was a 1 night stay at Hotel Melina Plaza de Espana Benidorm.a 3 Star hotel in old town.

We booked our room online with the usual no fuss process

Our hotel was situated in the pleasant square surrounded by local bars and shops.just a short walk to the beach

All the staff were extremely helpful at checkin and our room was very clean indeed and was nicely decorated ,light and airy everything in the room worked and we were thankful the Aircon cooled the room quickly.

The hotel is a family hotel and caters for families and couple really well the swimming pool area was very popular yet not overcrowded with plenty of sunbeds and seating the pool water was crystal clear and well kept.

In our view we would readily recommend this hotel .read the write ups this hotel does exactly what it says on the tin.

Our only point to note that the very limited parking can be a problem but there are parking areas within an easy walk..

Room Tip: Ask for a room over looking the square great for people watching and the sun moves of the balconies...

There were 10 of us (5 couples) in total that booked in here for a 60th Birthday for one of the party, I can’t say I was too enthusiastic at the prospect of visiting Benidorm, but as it was “Lovely Jim’s” birthday we all went along. All I can say is that we had a pleasant surprise not the embarrassing typical “Brits abroad” experience I had envisaged. The Hotel is in a good central location not on the beach front admittedly but it is a short walking distance from the Old Town shopping areas café bars. The beach is less than a 15 min walk away as are the shops, and no the shops aren’t all full of cheap and tacky touristy trinkets, The shops cater for all tastes with Café Bars scattered within them and no its not full of British bars showing the latest Football on Sky TV.

If you want that, then further out of town is the part spoilt by the Brits abroad complete with all the stuff you would expect. Having spent two hours in that area thankfully we didn’t bother to return.

The Hotel itself is clean and comfy the rooms have been refurbished and staff are excellent. Beds are comfortable and the shower and bath both excellent. A lot of Spanish were staying at the hotel at the time so if it was good enough for them we were more than happy.

If I had to criticise anything it would only be the cleaner who seemed to want to make a racket in her cleaning cupboard next door at 7.30 in the morning.

If you looking for a hotel to fall into at 6.30 in the morning, on a stag or hen weekend, pissed as a rat shouting and screaming and within 200 yards of a local British pub go elsewhere I am sure the hotel and guest would rather you did. If you want a good clean friendly Hotel then this is well worth considering.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the pool are at the rear of the hotel, other rooms overlook the street

My wife and I went here sept 13 ,never a four star maybe two, all inclusive, drinks good, some of bar staff really ignorant, hinting for tips all the time because most people are all inc, food we'll we had pork one night next night fish that was it each night soup hot water with blended lentils, most times we had to put soup and some dinners in micro to heat up, as for snacks, a joke, entertainment non exsistent not if you like an old man playing sorry trying to play a piano ,lovely hotel great pools, but come on get your act together.

Room Tip: Don't go too high.

Booked this hotel whilst staying in Alicante as we fancied a night on Benidorm! Got a room last minute and I was amazed at how nice this hotel was. Friendly enough staff, big enough rooms with a very modern twist. This hotel was great for a night's stay.

Booked a 2 night getaway to the Melina and arrived back yesterday. First day was fine, check in was easy enough and room was available before allocated check in time. However, we realised air con wasn't on and went down to reception to ask to be told "it still isn't working." No apologies and no warning on check in! Pool area was nice, although there are about 12 sunbeds and jacuzzi is only open 3 hours a day - again we weren't told and can't find this anywhere on the website. Got ordered out at 2 o clock one day as it had officially shut at 1.30 and we didn't know. Would have been nice to sit in it even when the bubbles weren't on like you can do at other places!

Breakfast was complete pandamonium on both mornings and the food was really poor. Croissants which were soggy and obviously defrosted in the microwave, only orange juice or pineapple available and both revolting. When we arrived to breakfast on the first morning we had to clear our own table as none were clean then there was no cutlery and no coffee cups or glasses. Asked waiter and he brought out two for our table, one of which had a huge chip in. Hot breakfast was appauling, honestly looked like someone had picked up the hard boiled eggs and splattered them all over each other for fun. The restaurant just isn't big enough to house so many people and the design is so bad you had people bashing into your table trying to get past.

Room was fine, huge TV although no tv remote and no shower gel or shampoo provided in bathroom, or hairdryer.

We were the only people under 55 in the hotel and the only English people and the staff don't really speak English which could be a problem for some people.

Room Tip: Ask for pool view room - sun on balconies all day

In July 2012 Myself, Boyfriend and daughter (who was 22 months at the time) decided to spend some time in Benidorm. We booked to stay at The Hotel Melina for 1 night. We only wanted something cheap in price as we were not looking to spend loads of time in the room or hotel. Having said that we did want it clean especially as we had our daughter.

All in all we were very pleased with the Hotel. It was in a lovely location not far from Benidorm Old town and the beach. This is a hotel where a lot of the Spanish come on holiday so the British were in the minority. That was fine with us as we are not interested in going on holiday just where the Brits go.

The Melina Hotel reception area was bright and spacious as was The Bar and restaurant area. We did not eat at the Hotel but they did have a lovely menu ( not the typical egg and chips that can be found in Benidorm) including fresh sea food. The bedrooms were clean and spacious and had a balcony which overlooked the shopping area. Even with a travel cot these rooms were perfect for 2 adults and an infant. As well as tea and coffee Facilities we were also provided with water. The bathroom was spacious and had both a bath and shower. Perfect for 2 adults and an infant. The Decor is slightly dated but that didnt worry us.

We did use the pool at the hotel. It was rather small but perfect for us. The only critisism is that there are not very many sun loungers. Also when the sun starts to move round it does start to shade over but I guess that cant be helped.

I would definately recommend this Hotel and hopefully myself and family will be going back again this year.
