“Nice hotel shame about the food”
Reviewed 15 September 2013

A group of 4 of us 2 couples stayed at this hotel in early September 2013, This is the second time myself and my wife have stayed here and my sister and her husband have stayed here for the last five years running.
On arrival on Sun 1st at 1.15 in the afternoon we were told our room was not ready this happened the year previous as well and watching others arriving it seemed as though no one’s room was ready anyway at 2.30 we were given our room keys number 3111 which was a lovely room overlooking the central courtyard nice and quiet no complaints at all, apart from our last night which was a Saturday there was a wedding on and the reception was directly under our room and it went on until 5am next morning.
This is a fabulous hotel maybe a little further from town centre than you would like to be but we knew that so again no complaints. Cleanliness is second to none there is always someone cleaning something. The main pool area is good the spa is very good as are other communal areas but there are a few major let downs.
Will begin with the food, well the word that springs to mind is rubbish we were on a half board basis as we were the year previous now the food was not good last time but reading reviews on the run up to our holiday and manager’s comments we were led to believe that a new chef was in place and the hotel team were working hard to improve, well it has not improved it’s still as bad and if I were in charge the head chef would be long gone. Everything looks very good and don’t get me wrong some things were ok but for instance the bacon for breakfast was like eating the sole of your shoe after being immersed in oil, the various flavours of fruit juice from the machine all taste the same, sausages taste of nothing thank god for hp sauce, I even tried the churros and chocolate one morning and I have never had it like that before it was the nearest thing I got to fried bread all week and the chocolate was like water so if they cannot get a traditional Spanish dish correct then what hope is there.
Evening meals were much the same you could see people going along getting to the end and thinking what am I going to eat and just putting enough on the plate to see them through and maybe like us find something decent later when you are out and about. I personally love soup and I thought great every night there are two different types to choose from vegetable, minestrone, onion, tomato, to name a few so why do they all look and taste the same maybe because its packet powdered soup that’s why. Surely a top chef in a four star Spanish hotel can come up with a dessert a little more interesting than a big bowl of custard covered in a layer of packet biscuits. Anyway I think by now you get the idea about food if you want to eat boring tasteless repetitive food then this is the place for you.
The other thing I was really annoyed about whilst staying here was that the adults only rooftop sun terrace closed for the season the day we arrived, now last year we stayed here a week later and the terrace was still open when we went home, when my sister asked the manager why it closed earlier this year he said its end of season so unless the Spanish seasons change every year then I think that was just a poor excuse. After being pushed a bit more on this the manager did say in the end it was down to manpower, so I wish he could explain why on various nights at the outside entertainment area and bar when there were only a dozen customers why you would need 6 staff standing around chatting with each other and doing nothing surely it would be better to use that unused manpower maybe on the roof terrace by day.
These comments are just my personal opinion of course so it is up to you what you believe but we will not be returning to this hotel until the issues have been addressed and my advice is go room only and eat out there are wonderful places to eat either just along the street or all over Benidorm all very good value.

Dear friends from Carlisle

Thank you for your sincerity and comments on our site.

We are working on improving the quality and choice of our buffet. This month we have increased the choice with a new buffet table... that means more variety for our customers. We won't stop working till every single guest in the hotel is happy.

As frequent visitors to Benidorm we decided to stay out of the centre, but knew there are plenty of bars with entertainment within walking distance The hotel is very well designed with lots of space, our room was very spacious and clean with a lovely large balcony. We booked the 1st week in September for 10 days, travelling as a couple with no children (ours are grown up, with small children) and I expected the school holidays to be almost finished, not realising the schools were still on holiday in Spain. The hotel was chock-a-block, with lots of children, but everyone deserves a holiday and I know it was my fault for not doing my homework. We found the evening meal to be quite basic, catering more for families with children not what we expected for a 4* hotel. There was a roof-top pool for adults only which was lovely, with quite a few people there, on the 3rd Sept it suddenly closed, which was very disappointing. After saying that we had a lovely holiday and YES I would return to the Deloix, possibly on a b/b basis, all the staff were nice and the hotel was spotless, the outside pool area is lovely, with plenty of sunbeds and parasols.
Tips:
The no. 10 bus straight outside hotel goes to Albir and Altea, both are great places to visit
The China Garden 15 mins walk away does a great set menu and the service is brilliant.

Room Tip: We had room 3309 which overlooked a central garden area and also had a view of the mountains, lovely...

Dear Jan

Thank you for your time spent in Deloix and your trust.

The roof pool is open every summer depending on the weather... as when it rains there is no way to get some cover!!

Hope to see you back soon

A lovely hotel but has problems..

firstly bad points-

the food and dining room, there isnt much choice especially for children, every meal was the same, chips and pizza, iv been coming to benidorm for many years and in different hotels, some of the cheaper hotels have more choice than the deloix. i stayed here for 8 days and out of those 8 days we were offered sausages only 2 times with breakfast, the rest was always hotdog sausages, who wants hotdogs for breakfast? The dining room was crammed (they had an un-opened dining area too) and plates are never removed from the tables, very understaffed, you could wait 15 minutes to have a dish replaced and even then had to ask. often when the deserts ran out they were replaced with something of less quality. The childrens pool area is very slippy, everyday i saw at least one person fall over. Childrens entertainment is outside by a busy road with no fencing, one evening we watched the parrot show, this was basically 2 men pushing for photo's with the guests charged at 10 euro's each followed by a 5 min performance of a parrot on a bike. The air con was poor and the room felt like a sauna. the only english channels on tv were news. we were charged 6 euro's per day for a cot.

Good points-

Lovely pool with plenty of sunbeds, always clean. the childrens pool is great, my girls loved it, they also have an idoor play area perfect for when it was a bit overcast. the hotel is well kept and spotless. The rooms are big and bright with big balcony's. every evening there is a mini disco, the childrens entertainers get all the kids involved, great fun. The hotel is just outside the town so we were far enough back to avoid the stag and hen parties but not too far away to walk. there is a nice indoor pool (must wear a hat) which is warmer as the outdoor pool is cold..

Overall the hotel is lovely but let down by the food, especially the hotdogs at breakfast and the crammed dining room. on my first visit a couple of years ago we did not experience these problems.

Been to Benidorm 7 times before booking in at this fantastic hotel and nothing compares to it. The staff were all very helpful and couldn't do enough for us. We stayed in room 3311 which over looked the gardens with a view of the mountains which was quiet and peaceful. The room was a very good size with plenty of storage space and very clean. We went half board which turned out to be great because you could choose either dinner or tea. The food was very good with a wide range, was also a kids corner with burgers chips etc. The main pool area was set out really well with a life guard on at all times, also an indoor pool that we didn't use cause the weather was nice and hot. The roof top pool was heaven, so quiet as kids weren't allowed. Some fantastic views of the mountains and of Benidorm, but it was only open July and August. The hotel is a good 15 - 20 min walk to the beach and pubs with a good number of pubs and restaurants on the way down. Didn't stay at hotel for the night time entertainment as it was aimed for kids. An all round fantastic hotel, will be staying next time we come to Benidorm.

We stayed for 2 weeks from August 14th. The room we were given was spacious (it was a corner room) and it was nicely decorated and cleaned everyday. The hotel was mainly Spanish although there were several British, German and French families also. My children (age 7 and 3) had a great time, loving the shows and the pools, one of which is full of small water slides. We found the staff very nice particularly in the restaurant. The head waiter (we think!) Jorge, was so pleasant and friendly, as were Sergio and Liviu to mention a few although all the staff were great. We found the selection of food great and appreciated it that the head chef, Ramon, came to talk to us for feedback. The animator, Jose, was fantastic both with the adults and kids. We loved the fact that the hotel was in a quiet area but only 20 minutes from the centre of Benidorm or 5 minutes on the bus. The roof top pool deserves a special mention for the views although we didn't get there much as it is adult only! We will definitely be returning next summer or sooner if we can. Thank you! The Turner family, Essex

Room Tip: try a corner room if you need extra space.

We stayed at the Deloix with our ten-year old daughter for a week half-board between 27th August and 3rd September. It was a late booking and we were a bit apprehensive about the fact that it was in Benidorm, but it turned out to be a great choice. The hotel is about an hour from Alicante airport and in a quiet and mainly residential area. The guests were mainly Spanish families, but we didn't feel alienated at all and our daughter made couple of friends with some English children. The kids' entertainment team made a really good effort to include all nationalities. It's about 20 minutes from the beach, but we enjoyed the walk and felt that the location was a bonus because it was quiet and away from all the tackiness! We saw some hilarious sights on the way. The sunsets against the backdrop of the mountains were amazing. There's a bus stop opposite the hotel where you can catch cheap to the beach and old town (the tickets are 1 euro 50, wherever you go in Benidorm on the Levante side of the resort). We were in room 2209, with a view of the neighbourhood and mountains. It was spacious, well air-conditioned and very clean. We used the pool in the afternoons after mornings at the beach (Levante and Mal Pas by the old town), and never had any trouble finding a couple of spare sunbeds. The food was a bit repetitive, but fine for a week's stay (it's worth visiting tapas alley in old town for a change). The staff were all very, very friendly and helpful, and although I was trying to speak Spanish they all answered in perfect English! The cocktails were great, especially the mojitos!
At the Deloix you're also walking distance from Mundo Mar and Aqualandia, and Benidorm Circus (we did Aqualandia and the circus - both were good fun), and also close to Masymas, which is a good supermarket (but with a rude checkout man called Jesus!)
We had great fun, and would definitely recommend the Deloix.

Bit of a late booking for us, but the great reviews that we read about this hotel convinced us it was a smart choice.
From the moment we arrived we found the staff very helpful and good natured, nothing appeared to be too much trouble.
We had a room in Block 2 on the 1st floor and we were pleased to have a view over the rear of the hotel and downtown Benidorm itself.
Our room was spacious, even for a family of 4, and were well appointed and in good condition. The balcony area was big and very safe for children. The bathroom and shower were very good, with a bath if you prefer.
The pools were great, we never had a problem getting sun loungers and we felt happy to laze by the pool much of the day, with the children enjoying swimming, using the slides and having fun with the animation staff.
We stayed 1/2 board and we all thought the foods was great. Our children enjoyed the buffet style restaurant and had no trouble finding things they liked, particularly in kids corner.
The quality of food was first class and there was plenty to go round, even if you turned up towards the end of service.
There was a reasonable mix of entertainment each night and the staff tried hard in many languages to ensure that everyone had a good time.
All in all we had a great holiday and were delighted with the hotel. Like people have said, it is close enough to the centre of Benidorm to go and enjoy the fun, but far enough away that it is relaxed and ideal for a family holiday.
