“Great stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 June 2014

First time on the Costa Blanca and wanted a relaxing holiday with no kids, went with my wife and booked through Jet2.

First I have to get the only bad things about the holiday out of the way....Jet2 say in the details this is a 1 hour 30 minutes transfer and in fact it was 2 hours 30 minutes transfer. we were picked up at 7:35 for the 12:20 flight to Leeds ridiculously early especially if you were all inclusive and wanted breakfast. Going to the hotel a young couple had children and they were dropped off after us so even longer time on the bus. the children were really well behaved but it was not a nice journey for them. secondly it is quite noisy at times, the first night the Diamante Beach Hotel had music blasting until well gone midnight. (I tried to comment on their site but Tripadvisor rejected the review)

The hotel is an apartment type, we had a bedroom, open plan living room with kitchenette that consisted of a 4 ring hob, microwave, toaster and coffee machine, no conventional oven. a good sized bathroom with bath/shower over and good sized balcony with washing machine. All apartments face towards the sea and the higher the better view, I requested a room as high as possible but got the 11th floor which still had good views. It was really clean, the air con worked well and I would recommend this place very highly.

Calpe is split into 2 beaches, this hotel is about as far from the main town as you can get, about a 45 minute walk, there is a good bus service from the front of the hotel that takes you into Calpe for 1.20 euro, and a little train that we didn't use.

There are loads of local places to eat, there are traditional restaurants serving set meals at around 15-20 euros and lots of bar type meals such as pizza and burgers etc starting from 5 euros. Happy hour at most places is from 17:00-20:00 where its 2 euros a pint and cocktails 4-5 euros. Most of these are sea front and you can relax and watch the day go by. Coffee and apple pie on a morning about 3 euros and English breakfast for 5 euros. Its all table service but not lightening fast so there was the occasional wait. We went self catering and were pleased that we did as the local bars were so nice.

Our stay was in June and Calpe was quiet, we were told it can get busy in the high season. There were always places at the bars and at the pool side, even when Spain ware playing Holland in the world cup.

Calpe is a place plenty of Spaniards holiday, I would put English visitors at about 25% but we never had a problem with language.

Last of all...the beach was lovely, clean, lots of space and great for kids.

Room Tip: High rooms better view. Boat to Benidorm from Calpe harbour is a good day trip at 22.50 euros Lots...

Just had nine nights in the apartments. The one bedroom apartments are quite spacious for three people so we did not feel too cramped. They are new apartments so every thing does not feel as tired as they do in other apartments I have stayed in. No kettle but one was delivered as soon as requested. There are no shortage of sunbeds and the beach is 3 minutes away. The staff at the main hotel were welcoming and always there to help. Went with Jet2 holidays who provide great value with transfers etc.

Beautiful apartments. Home from home, stayed here for one week over new year in a 2 bedroom apartment. Kitchen with full size fridge freezer, cooker, lots of utensils and crockery, no kettle or toaster though. Large modern bathroom and en suite in one of the bedrooms. Balcony outside kitchen has a washing machine, whilst front main glass balcony is very spacious with table, chairs and 2 sunloungers, all new. Beautiful views of the rock. Good location, still along the front or get the bus outside to the main centre. If you upgrade to all inclusive in the Esmeralda hotel for meals, well worth it, especially the new year gala meal, absolutely fantastic. Most of the guests were Spanish, however made us feel so welcome, one of the best new years we have had. The staff were amazing and organisation was unbelievable by the staff.

Room Tip: The higher the room, the longer you will have the sun.

My husband, daughter and I stayed in the Esmeralda Suites for one week in June. We booked as a package with Jet2. After great flight was met by our driver who drove us to our Apartment. You have to go to the sister Hotel a sort stroll down the road to collect your key. We had request a high floored apartment and were not dissappointed to find ourselves on the 22nd floor. The veiws from the balcony are fabulous, I even forgot about my fear heights! The apartment was very well appointed and plenty of space to self cater. Had good size table and chairs which was never used as All meals were taken on the spacious balcony to enjoy the view. We also had two loungers and a washing machine out there. One word of warning about the bathroom. The bath has a glass shower screen fixed solid along 3/4 of the bath meaning your only access is a very small area over the slope end of the bath. I had a nastly fall on exit one night and ended up in a terrible mess. If you have long legs would help but my 5ft 3" did not! I do think that the owners should re think this one as they could have some serious health & safety issue. We did not have a cleaner come in during our week which we were unaware of when we booked, perhaps with having the washing machine they thought we would do our own laundry. It actuallt suited us fine we took our rubbish and dumped it bins at side of apartment. The apartments had two outdoor pools with plenty of beds and sun bathing areas. We seemed to be the only English speaking guest which was not a problem. It was actually very pleasant to not have a bar or music by the pool, very peaceful, most days we had one of the pools to ourselves. Location wise you could not be better placed just a short stroll from the beach and plenty of great bars and restaurants. This was our first visit to Calpe and will most definately return.

Room Tip: High floor as possible for stunning views.

The appartments (we had 1-bedroom one) are not very spacious, but comfortable. They are located in a recently built building (on google streetview you can see the construction site in this place) so all equipment is relatively new. It includes washing machine, ceramic hob, microwave oven and air condition (with heating). The reception is not on-site, but in nearby hotel, with staff being rather helpful.
The principal advantage of this appartment was really stunning view of the Penon de Ifach - from 21st floor appartment it was exactly the same as on promotional photos. As the building is located in quite densely built-up area, ask for an appartment over 15th floor to enjoy unobscured views (out of season it didn't pose any problem to get it on request).
The sandy beach, restaurants and two supermarkets are located within 5-minutes walk. It's surely worth the effort to make a 2-4 hrs hike (return trip) to the top of the rock.

Room Tip: Ask for an appartment over 15th floor to enjoy unobscured views over the bay and the rock of Ifach

Stayed here for a week mid December. Nice clean modern apartments with fabulous views of the Penon and bay. Within easy walking distance of two major supermarkets and restaurants and beach. Very good value. Reception staff at the Esmeralda Hotel and Diamante Beach Hotel were very friendly and extremely helpful. Will definately stay there again

Very good apartments with everything you need to have a great time self catering. The view from the 22 nd floor is amazing. Spacious balcony with sunbeds, table and chairs and washing machine and drying rack. This is very handy although I did loose a beach dress and pair of knickers which blew off the balcony never to be found.
Comfortable beds and roomy living area.
Very close to the beach and even closer to the hotel whose facilities you can use. The hotel is not a patch on the apartments and appeared a bit run down though the staff were very helpful when we had a mini admin crisis.
The wee train which takes you to the other part of the resort leaves from a stop very close between the apartments and the hotel.
Calpe is a resort more suited to couples and families and oldies. Good value and good quality resturaunts (The terrace was brilliant).
On the negative side the bathroom had a strange configuration as I had to climb in to the bath to put the plug in and turn the taps and quite a poor shower. Cleaning was extra and the sheets and towels were not changed all week (washed the towels in the washing machine).
Booked this as a last minute cheapy and had a better week than previous holidays at 5* hotels. Loved it and will be back.

Room Tip: Higher floors with sea views worth asking for.
