First time on the Costa Blanca and wanted a relaxing holiday with no kids, went with my wife and booked through Jet2.
First I have to get the only bad things about the holiday out of the way....Jet2 say in the details this is a 1 hour 30 minutes transfer and in fact it was 2 hours 30 minutes transfer. we were picked up at 7:35 for the 12:20 flight to Leeds ridiculously early especially if you were all inclusive and wanted breakfast. Going to the hotel a young couple had children and they were dropped off after us so even longer time on the bus. the children were really well behaved but it was not a nice journey for them. secondly it is quite noisy at times, the first night the Diamante Beach Hotel had music blasting until well gone midnight. (I tried to comment on their site but Tripadvisor rejected the review)
The hotel is an apartment type, we had a bedroom, open plan living room with kitchenette that consisted of a 4 ring hob, microwave, toaster and coffee machine, no conventional oven. a good sized bathroom with bath/shower over and good sized balcony with washing machine. All apartments face towards the sea and the higher the better view, I requested a room as high as possible but got the 11th floor which still had good views. It was really clean, the air con worked well and I would recommend this place very highly.
Calpe is split into 2 beaches, this hotel is about as far from the main town as you can get, about a 45 minute walk, there is a good bus service from the front of the hotel that takes you into Calpe for 1.20 euro, and a little train that we didn't use.
There are loads of local places to eat, there are traditional restaurants serving set meals at around 15-20 euros and lots of bar type meals such as pizza and burgers etc starting from 5 euros. Happy hour at most places is from 17:00-20:00 where its 2 euros a pint and cocktails 4-5 euros. Most of these are sea front and you can relax and watch the day go by. Coffee and apple pie on a morning about 3 euros and English breakfast for 5 euros. Its all table service but not lightening fast so there was the occasional wait. We went self catering and were pleased that we did as the local bars were so nice.
Our stay was in June and Calpe was quiet, we were told it can get busy in the high season. There were always places at the bars and at the pool side, even when Spain ware playing Holland in the world cup.
Calpe is a place plenty of Spaniards holiday, I would put English visitors at about 25% but we never had a problem with language.
Last of all...the beach was lovely, clean, lots of space and great for kids.
