Fab views, not as hard as thought. Only went up to tunnel though. Need good walking shoes to get to top.

We didn't walk too far up the rock as its very steep and you really need proper walking shoes but even if you can make it up to the visitor centre you get an amazing view of calpe. Great clean facilities.

My husband and I have climbed the Penon perhaps 6 times over the years, most recently when we are both in our sixties. We are fit and well and this is essential because the terrain is steep and rocky. The climb up to the tunnel is an easy uphill walk on a path, the tunnel is slippery and beyond that the path is narrow and rocky. It took us 1.5 hours to get to the summit and slightly less coming down. The views are magnificent. Some words of warning, never go when it's raining or likely to rain the path is then treacherous, take water to drink, set off early in the morning before the heat of the day and wear at least stout trainers and don't go alone. If you are reasonable fit and take care you will enjoy the challenge as we have done.

Highlight of Calpe is a hike up Ifach. The scenery and views are stunning all the way up to the tunnel, and there's always a place to sit and catch your breath if you're a bit unfit like me. The tunnel is very slippery so hold on, and then after that it gets pretty intense. As long as you're sensible, you should be able to make it up the 2nd part, though we turned back shortly after I got my foot caught between two rocks and nearly fell off the edge of the cliff! Would love to go back one day and complete the ascent.

A very enjoyable visit with a decent challenging walk. The views from the top of the rock were fantastic and the signs both informative and adequate. The 'spring' seagull warnings were very relevant.
