My wife and I stayed for 5 nights with my daughter and our cousin.
This hotel has a good location for getting easily to most of the old quarter of the centre of Valencia. Plaza del Raina is a couple of minutes walk away, with the Cathedral a couple of minutes beyond that, other places like the Central Market, silk museum etc are 10-15 mins walk at most. So it's very well-placed for looking at some of the best of Valencia. One real "wow" factor it has, which no other hotel can boast, is that it is directly beside the amazing Museo de Ceramica, a stunning rococo palace (which, incidentally, is also very good and inexpensive to visit inside). We had a room with a small balcony which faced the front of this incredible building - we emailed ahead and asked for this specially, having read previous reviews.
The rooms are clean and comfortable and decently sized, especially considering that you're unlikely to be spending too much time in them. A mini-bar is provided which was very useful as a fridge to chill our water and some milk for our tea (this being Spain, tea/coffee facilities are not provided in the room so bring your own travel kettle if, like us, you like a cup of tea in bed before you get up for the day). The bathroom was nice and clean with plenty of hot water.
On arrival, we were shown our rooms which, responding to my requests, the hotel staff had kindly allocated on the 3rd floor very near each other and both with balconies facing the ceramics museum. Our room was fine, unfortunately my daughter's room had a very unpleasant cabbage/toilet odour which I suspect was coming from some faulty old pipes somewhere in the bowels of the hotel and was unlikely to go away. To their credit, the staff immediately offered another room on the same floor; unfortunately it was on a different side of the hotel so no view of the ceramics museum, but that couldn't be helped.
The hotel itself is fairly attractive inside, I think it's a fairly old (late 19th century?) building which has been slightly modernised but still has some original features. The lift/elevators were interesting - as the door shuddered slowly open, you wondered whether it would actually get you to your destination (it did). Also they're quite small & can't take a huge amount of weight - 4 of us got in with 2 suitcases and it wouldn't start until I got out and took the stairs, and I'm not that heavy!
We had a couple of other problems. One day our air conditioning unit decided it wanted to drip water all over our floor. The receptionist came with a towel to catch the drips, no mention of when or if it might get fixed. After she left I "adjusted" the unit so it drained properly and we didn't have the problem again. Another source of fun & games was the regular power cuts that only seemed to affect our room. We had 4 one day. I'd ring reception, the receptionist would go somewhere and reset some trip switch and it would all come back until the next time. We thought it was quite funny and I felt a bit sorry for the receptionists who had to run up 3 floors every time, but it could be quite annoying for someone else.
The only staff we met were 3 young ladies on reception at different times and they were excellent. They all spoke very good English (a rarity in Valencia, unlike Barcelona) and they were friendly and pleasant and always wanted to try and help.
The hotel has a cafe/bar attached to it with a nice ground floor terrace facing the ceramics museum. You can eat breakfast there but the buffet breakfast was 30 euros which was a bit rich for my blood. We used to go out of the hotel, turn right and walk down the side street with the ceramics museum on your left and after a minute or two came to a fantastic little cafe/bakery at the junction with the main road. There are so many great places to get a good lunch or dinner in Valencia, you don't really need a huge breakfast.
We really enjoyed our stay here. The hotel gave us exactly what we needed - a comfortable, well-located base for exploring this beautiful city, at a good price. We got the added bonus of a fantastic view out of our window too! The hotel has its quirks but nothing that would upset your holiday. I'd definitely recommend it.
