Owner description: The Museum of Fine Arts of Valencia is the most complex, rich and varied art institution in the Valencian Community, and is noted first and foremost for its magnificent collection of painting, generally recognized as on of the best in Spain, comprising truly outstanding works of art from all the periods of Valencian painting and other Spanish and international schools, including the great masters of world painting: Velázquez, Ribera, Murillo, Goya, and Sorolla.

A very interesting museum featuring works from Goya, El Greco and local artists. Also hosts other contemporary exhibits. A pleasant surprise that there was no ticket / entrance fee. Highly recommended.

First of all, it is free, and the check-in staffs are courteous and professional. There were very few people there when we visited on a Saturday morning. It is very tranquil and pleasant when compared with the mob-scence in Prado or other larger museums. It is also adjacent to a large leafy park.

One can take small doses of the religious paintings in several halls. For me, the more interesting ones are often unknown outside of Valencia with the exception of Sorolla. But there are some superb works such as the 'Amor de Madre', depicting the tragic flooding of an orchard, with the water swirling in the orange color of the setting sun.

The internet site of this museum is basic and somewhat deficient; the search engine does not work well to look for artworks presented in the museum. Most of the permanent exhibits have three languages -- Spanish, Valencian, and English. But the temporary ones have often only Valencian or Spanish. I think some basic grasp of Spanish is necessary to appreciate the exhibits since the writing is often quite detailed and thus helpful.

It was on the bus line and free well it was on a Sunday. We enjoyed a handful of the art, many of portrait pieces were spectacular, but way too many religious paintings for our taste.I am sure the very religious would love this place for this reason alone.

I was stunned that there was no entrance fee. I enjoyed the permanent and temporary exhibits. An easy walk from the city centre. Lovely building.

Many (many) religious carvings and paintings. Not really our scene. Right by the tourist bus stop so easy to visit and get back on the bus. Vending maching cafe and loos.
