I love ice cream--who doesn't?--and am one of those sobs who think that Italian ice cream is the best. Spain is not known as a mecca for ice cream enthusiasts and every time I've tried what is "best ever" in any city, I've been cruelly disappointed. Amorino is different. Italian in style, if not quite execution, the ice cream has a beautiful texture and deep flavor. I tried both of the chocolates and love the both. I also tried and liked the nocciola. You won't feel transported to Rome, but the ice cream was well worth it.

We recently took a Western Mediterranean cruise and spent time in Rome before and after it. We tried at least seven different gelato places, mostly in Rome. But the absolute best we tasted was in Spain at Amorino near Plaza de Toros de Valencia (the bull ring in Valencia). While the restaurant was tiny (really just a walk up place along the sidewalk), the selection of flavors not as large as most of the other places we tried, and the prices a tad high, all I can say is WOW!! The gelato was super fresh (you could tell by the quality of the nuts and other items mixed in) and creamy, and the flavors intense. They pride themselves on all natural ingredients. Like other gelato places, they were generous with sampling before ordering. I believe Amorino has shops across Europe and in New York. I'll be keeping an eye out for those.
