“Curiously soulless luxury hotel that lacks the vitality of Valencia”
Reviewed 27 March 2012

The hotel is well placed for the sea although its setting is in a strange part of the city. We booked a city view room which was well appointed. However the first and most obvious things were a strange odour from the otherwise well-appointed bathroom (it would seem that the enclosed bathrooms are not ventilated) - and the noise from traffic down below was too intrusive to keep the window open for long.

After settling in, we were surprised and disappointed that the outdoor swimming pool was closed and not due to be opened until next week (just before Easter). The only other outdoor pool was what seemed to be a children's pool which was useless for swimming.

The generous space devoted to a formal garden and fountains felt barren, and not designed to be used for the general enjoyment of guests. There was no seating beyond the terrace and almost nobody walked around the grounds. The lounge furniture was substantial yet uncomfortable, and every public area was infused with piped music that had an insistent and persistent thump to it.

Knowing this was not what we wanted we decide to alter our original plan of a five night stay to one night. Because apart from the excellent staff and a good breakfast, the hotel was overall a disappointment.

spent the weekend - lovely and helpful staff, fantastic rooms, bright, large, terrace all facing sea (I think). good drinks in the bar, great door and waiting staff, imagine its wonderful in summer as it is ON the beach and has great patios and fountains. perhaps a bit far from valencia city centre (5 minutes by car) but we were happy to take taxis and there is public transport close by; I was happy with this compromsie as the palce is really lovely and having the beach on the door step is a decided plus. Breakfasts were very high quality.

Room Tip: make sure you ask for sea facing

It is the lovely staff who really 'make' this (very) grand beachside hotel a special destination, but other pros include great uninterrupted sea views (worth paying extra for a room with a view and terrace), excellent swimming pools and a very chic gym. The photos make the whole place look a bit Caesar’s Palace, but it’s much nicer than that.

Main downer is the food, which is unremarkable/expensive (thought two continental breakfasts will happily do for a family of four). There is an adjacent strip of restaurants, but many of those are closed for dinner off-season, and those that are open seem to be of very variable (sometimes poor) quality. Best bet is the Spanish royal family favourite, La Pepica, sadly only open for lunch during our February visit.

And then there's the irritation of the torrent of wasteful laundry, in which 5 star hotels seem to specialise…

But, of its type, a great place, and an ideal base for a trip to a very pleasant city, which offers plenty to keep a family amused for a week’s visit. The hotel is seven miles from the city centre, but taxis (easy to find, both outside the hotel and in the city) are only about €10 each way. Or there’s a tram stop nearby.

Room Tip: Would be sad to come here and have a room without a sea view

Stayed here on business for 2 nights in mid Feb. There was a conference on so it was very busy and a little noisy however it was still a pleasant experience.
Rooms are spacious and clean with a nice bathroom and the breakfast buffet is very good.
I would stay here again.

Just in front of the sea.... What a lovely hotel!!!!

From the moment walked in the door we were treated like royalty. All the staff were very attentive and very kind with us.

The room was awesome and very spacious, with a balcony.

The concierge gave wonderful recommendations about restaurants - specially “Asador Ushuaia”, excellent restaurant, the best dinner of our honeymoon trip - and other places to go, thank you very much!!!

Probably there are less expensive hotels in Valencia, but if you can afford it, you won’t be disappointed.
