“Ancient History before your eyes”
Reviewed 10 April 2014

Here you get the thrill of seeing sights from the ancient world straight from your high school history books. The coliseum, forum and other sights can be enhanced by a tour guide. It is always good to know what you are seeing.

“Must See for Historical Roots of Modern Civilization”
Reviewed 9 April 2014

Though often demeaned in modern times, Italy has provided civilization some of its greatest gifts ranging from music, art, sculpture, governance, architecture, Though often brutal and warlike, ancient Rome is a must see for any first time visitor to Rome. The fact that these ruins even exist is a gift from Italy to the world.

“I enjoyed the morning very much despite my sore feet at the end”
Reviewed 9 April 2014

This is definitely a great way to spend a morning. Once again buy your ticket online and you sail straight through the crowds at the entrance. Very crowded at the beginning but because it is a large site crowds thin out during your walk. Although as my daughter remarked they are just stones there is so much history here that it is hard to take in.

The Italians I feel have not made the most of this site. There are a few signs here and there but really they could improve on this. I think some diagrams of how the buildings would have looked would also help the experience. Given the number of people visiting this site they could do more to make it interesting for people and provide information and signage. One example is that after two hours walking around with sore feet and thirsty we could not work out how to exit to go to the colosseum.

Given all this if you are into history then this is the place for you.

There is no where to buy drinks or food inside so it is a good idea to bring food with you and sit on the grass and have a picnic. We did not do this and wish that we had known . After two hours of walking it would have been great to just sit and grab some bread and cheese and ham and take it all in on the grass surrounded by the history.
