“Nice place to stay in Matera”
Reviewed 29 May 2013

This is a really nice hotel located just a block from the main square and the historic Sassi district. Rooms are clean and well kept. Bathrooms are better than most. Good breakfasts. Free WiFi in the rooms. Staff very friendly and helpful.

Excellent hotel. Rooms are large and clean. Parking directly under the hotel (car park entrance is to right of hotel steps). Electric roller blinds and opening double glazed windows make the rooms dark and very quiet if you want. Free wifi. Good breakfast, no evening restaurant, but we were recommended by the friendly English speaking hotel staff to the Kappador in the square between the lookout and the Bank of Napoli up 5 steps above a tourist shop - 3 minutes walk away (the map on trip advisor is wrong for the location). We would thoroughly endorse this recommendation. It was the best value food after 3 weeks of touring Southern Italy - very friendly and welcoming English speaking staff. The hotel location is outstanding, 100m from the Piazza Vitttorio Veneto and the start of the sassi. You can walk the whole sassi from this hotel with ease.

We unreservedly recommend this hotel.

The location is excellent with underground parking at €10 per day. Breakfast was great with a good choice.
One if the reasons I booked the hotel was for the air con. This unfortunately did not work in either room and it was too hot to sleep. It seemed to make a lot of noise for no effect.
This turned the hotel from a perfect hotel to a pricey hotel.

The hotel is very, very central, only steps away from the main piazza, the Sassi, restaurants, bars, a cinema, a supermarket and very close to the bus station that takes you to Bari airport. There was free wifi, which you needed to renew with a card daily due to Italian anti-terrorism laws. The breakfast was typically Italian- focaccia, ham, cheese- but also included some international favourites like cereals, donuts, croissants, juices, yoghurt and other pastries/cakes. It wouldn't suit those who want a hot breakfast, but that's not really authentic Italian anyway!
We forgot to print our boarding passes and the front desk were very helpful in doing so for us for free. One day we went for breakfast and returned to find the room had already been cleaned- they were super-quick! The shower was good, the toilet had a bidet and towel warmer (the towels were massive!), the hotel offered (of course) small toiletries that were replenished and a mini-bar (not free, but useful if you need to keep stuff cold...) as well as Sky TV (in English and Italian languages). The room was clean, warm and if too hot you could open the window fully. I also liked the blackout feature of the blinds, which were electric and controlled by up/down buttons by the bed. When fully closed it was like being in a cave, but you could also keep them so as to have light coming in between the slits if that's your preference! As for the bed itself...it was HUGE! It was a good 6 foot wide and really comfy (although that depends on your preference in firmness).
We booked early through Trivago so ended up paying around £50/room/night, which is great value for money in my opinion for 2ppl sharing.
In general, we felt well looked after and would highly recommend. Also...there's a supermarket round the corner which was very useful for buying food (meats, cheeses) to travel back with- they'll even vacuum seal it for you!

Room Tip: We had room 117, which was a bit noisy as it was right by the stairs and people generally congregate...

We stayed for 2 nites in Sept. The location is the biggest plus, it's a 10 minute walk from the train station. At the end of the street (Via Roma), it is located on, is the very hub of Matera. It is the piazza where the shops, cafes and restaurants and the duomo are on. It is a very easy walk to everything from the hotel and very safe. This is the scene of the evening "passagiata." It is also very close to the "sassi" district.

The hotel is fairly modern with a roomy elevator. Rooms are a bit small and bathrooms have all the amentities. There is a desk, 2 nightstands and a wardrobe.
There is free internet access. The breakfast was outstanding. There was sweet station with all kinds of wonderful treats.....muffins,cookies and donuts. Another station had pizza, ham and small sandwiches. Another area had fresh fruit and fruit salad. Cereal and yogurt were also offered. In our 3 weeks in Italy this breakfast had quite an array of options. there is a lovely outdoor where waiters take your drink order and clean up after you.

For 167 Euros, we felt it was a real "steal" in a highly unusual area. It is highly recommended in a delightful town where the word antiquity is taken to a whole new level.

This hotel offers tourist a very comfortable hotel in central Matrea very near the Sassi. Great breakfast and updated baths. The staff were very helpful and our internet was free. The rooms are somewhat small and not much rooms for large or many bags.

This hotel has 3 things going for it, in our opinion: parking under the building, a great location for visiting the city on foot, and a very good breakfast, including the service. It was, however, the least value for our money during 7 weeks travel throughout the country (at 120/night) due to tired and dirty rugs, seemingly disengaged front desk staff, and poorly functioning air conditioning. The rooms are otherwise fine in terms of size and decor. We would stay here again only at a lower price.
