This hotel is at the top of the historic district in an converted palace. The rooms are smallish but inviting with nice bathrooms. Staff was extremely helpful and made sure we were aware of all of the features including a fantastic modern art gallery on the premises in the basement. There is a small lobby bar and you walk through beautifully decorated salons one floor up from the lobby for breakfast service. A small number of parking spaces are available for a premium at the courtyard or you can drop your luggage off and return the car to one of the public lots below the historic hillside buildings. The site is in the heart of the historic district however the modern town can be reached by a short walk downhill past the Duomo. We were very happy with this hotel.

Room Tip: Matera streets are hard to follow... To get to hotel by car drive up Via Del Corso and then to the D...

just few steps away from Matera's cathedral in a hidden alley lies palazzo Viceconte that is a place really worth to be discovered . A meticolous restauration has turned this ancient building into a secret gem
Rooms I had 105 are high vaulted ,furnished using antiques pieces, extremely generous in size with splitted bath and shower and enough space to rest . Bed matress is of good quality and ensure long relaxing sleeps those will be interrupted just by birds singing in the morning - anyhow a double window will ensure you a total silence)
The whole Palace is adorned with tastefully paintings and you can really feel the genuine love behind this project that has achieved an high sense of warm hospitality
The breakfast room on the third floor roof is simply out of this world even if selection is not that wide , from the terrace you can embrace the view of the cathedral clocktower just few meters away , I sassi and all the town that has one of the most unique personality that you can realize only when you experience the magic of this place. There is plenty of restaurants nearby and I recommend to stroll through the roughly shaped stairs of the sassi to find a good place (the old roads of the town are not for hi heel shoes , stay confortable when there)
The hotel has a special art gallery mostly amazing photos that I was delighted to be introduced by the
ex marathonete taking good care of the reception
A parking space is granted to all those brave enough to drive until here
An amazing discovery. really loved it and super recommendable for all those that do not know yet the beauty of Matera- Very good for families and tourist in look of something better

What a brilliant place to stay for the wonderful sights and experiences of Matera. The accommodation is superb and the views from the hotel overlooking the canyon are magnificent. The staff are extremely helpful and the owner always on hand to share his love of the Palazzo.

Room Tip: try to get a room overlooking the canyon

The building is fairly impressive and beautiful. We were welcomed by a very nice host, very helpful.
Of course arriving up there by car was not the easiest part and you have to pay for the car park inside the palazzo... but considering the price of the room in this season, we thought it was the easiest thing to do. We spent one night in a classic room, which we found beautiful and cosy... and we could see the sassi from our bathroom! Also we appreciated being able to walk freely all around the palazzo and admire the building. Breakfast was very good and the waitress, just as the host, very considerate. Definitely a place to make a break and visit this unbelievable place that is Matera.

I loved our Palazzo experience in Matera!

We stayed for one night in the Palazzo during our April visit to the beautiful town of Matera. The main drawback of the place, probably like most other places in the town's historic center is finding it and parking your car. However, when we got to town, we called the hotel's reception and they were very helpful with assisting us to navigate our car throughout the narrow streets of Matera's center.

Parking was another issue - you can't park inside the city center so you either need to pay 20 Euros for parking inside the hotel's courtyard or park outside the city center, walk for about 8 minutes and get to the hotel. That's what we did and I think it was a good choice, as you don't really need your car while in town. The Sassi are only explorable on foot.

And as for the hotel itself. It was really good. Our room which the basic kind, was very big, contained an entrance room and a big bedroom. The bed was comfortable and you had great views over town overlooking from the window. Bathroom was very comfortable as well.

Breakfast was nice, served in one of the beautiful hotel halls, and contained various types of cheese and meet, some yogurt and fresh juice. Basic but good.

Wifi in the hotel is free, but kind of slow.

The hotel also has a balcony and and a roof terrace with marveolous views over the town's sassi.

If you are driving here you'll find it difficult to access the first time.

My tip, head for Piazza Duomo ignoring the warning signs that entrance is only for those "authorised"and head for the arch at the top right of the Square. Then drive down a couple of hundred yards and the hotel is on the left.

Rooms are large and tastefully decorated. Bed comfortable and bathroom will accommodate any number of swinging cats. Parking is difficult - we were there in the off season and all guests' cars were squeezed into the Palace Courtyard which meant a great deal of Rubiks Cubing to extract a particular car on check out day. Generally I get the feeling that once you have your space to park it' s best just to leave the car there and get round on foot.

Hotel is atmospheric and staff are professional and friendly. One letdown is the quality and variety of the breakfast although the stroll to
the Breakfast Room makes it worthwhile because you pass through so many rooms with interesting and vaguely erotic artworks.

Note to management - a clear set of directions on your website would be a boon and would save your staff from unnecessary and wasteful calls from lost guests....
