My husband and I visited Matera during our wedding/honeymoon in Italy this past June. We were excited to stay in Matera based on what we had heard about the town and our visit exceeded our expectations. Corte San Pietro is an amazing boutique hotel. The rooms are unique and beautiful. The setting outside of the hotel is gorgeous. We could not say enough good things about our stay. The owner and staff are incredibly gracious and helpful. Breakfast in the morning was amazing as were the espressos we enjoyed sitting outside of our room. We could not have asked for more. We would highly recommend a trip to Matera and a stay at Corte San Pietro

If you ever dreamed of having a holiday house abroad with style, this is the place! Marina and Fernando are the most loving owners of this place and will let you feel completly at home at this hotel so well decorated.

Room Tip: Todos os Quartos são ótimos, até o mais simples é super aconchegante.

We wanted somewhere special to spend our first wedding anniversary, and this place certainly did not disappoint. They called us ahead of time with directions to make sure we arrived ok. When we did arrive they welcomed us eagerly as if they had been waiting for us all day, and led us to a beautiful room facing onto the courtyard.

The owner came out and we sat and had coffee in the courtyard while talking about music, before he showed us the room and explained some of it's history. Carved back into the rock face, it was a stunningly renovated cave dwelling, which he told us was probably a church at some point due it's arching architecture. The room had a cistern, which this town is so famous for, and the next day they took us for a little tour of the cisterns they had uncovered when restoring the building, which was brilliant. They told us they were thinking of converting them into spa rooms, which is a fantastic idea.

Matera itself was a beautiful higgledy piggledy mess of caves, buildings and stair cases all on top of each other, and we spent two days happily wandering through. At night the town really came alive though, which may have been more to do with our visit coinciding with the patron saint festival. One night we followed echoes of cheering and whistles through the sassy, coming out on a large piazza and a basketball tournament, which we were told was the junior world championships. The next we could hear in the distance a brass band, and chasing the echoes again through the sassi we emerged a little further upon time for the the decorative lights for the festival to be switched on with accompanying music. Was brilliant.

Can't rate this place highly enough. The hotel was beautiful with every care thought of. Breakfast was one of the best I've had in a hotel. The atmosphere was very casual and relaxed.

Perfect stay.

We had an incredible stay, the pictures here do not give it justice.
Great location in the heart of the Sassi Caveoso, with incredible rooms in cave dwellings and a delicious breakfast.
The staff are extremely friendly and helpful, making our time in Matera very special.

Carmen and I stayed here for one night and it was magic. Believe all you read in the other reviews. Matera is a fascinating town with a history of poverty, displacement and rebirth. It warrants mor than the one day we spent there.
Staying at CSP completes the experience by providing an insight into "Sassi" living but with luxury, comfort and local insights. The cortile helps give a contemporary insight into the communal life of the past.
Ferdinando and his team made us feel very much at home. Ferdinando was generous with his time - he has created something quite special here. And the breakfast was excellent.
You won't regret choosing CSP.

(I have accidentally rated "swimming pool" and "fitness centre" - not relevant to CSP)
