Had lunch on the terrace at this restaurant just off the main square in Amalfi. One on the best meals eaten. This place is fine dining and how it does not have a Michelin Star !!. Even though fine dining it is also relaxed and informal. The food and the staff are the stars of the show.

Raviolo with tomato and ricotta, carpaccio of tuna, the highlight was a local fish for two, simply grilled with lemon and olive oil, The best fish eaten for a long time - so fresh. Tiramisu 2010 is a different take on the original but definately worth it.

A very extensive wine list. Had GAJA Alteni di Brassica 2012 - absolutely stunning wine (Sav Blanc) not cheap but worth every euro. Could eat here every day - but would spoil a good thing. Meal for two (4 courses each) without wine about 75€ per head which given the quality is excellent value.

We ate here two nights ago. Being shown to our table, water arrived immediately but we were left to ourselves for a long time before being handed a menu and wine list. The water was clearly a holding strategy.
We shared an octopus starter which was basically octopus in a so so bland potato sauce. Horrible. It was unceremoniously plonked on the table. Not a good start(er) .
My wife chose the Gemma special. Chewy thick pasta in a mushy meat sauce - she later regrets having eaten it at all. My ravioli with goats cheese was not so bad but can you really get that wrong anyway?
The most marked attribute to this place was the incredibly miserable staff. Not one smile and barely any recognition that we existed. When we left we passed two waiters in the exit area who totally ignored us. A thank you for the euro90 or so we had spent would have been nice. Or even a smile?
The whole thing was a dreadful experience and how it gets so many good reviews on this site goodness knows.

We ate a lot of fresh fish along the Amalfi Coast and Da Gemma was among the best. We dined on their lovely terrace right in the heart of Amalfi among all their lovely historic buildings.

Our evening at Da Gemma in late May was very special - our best meal on the Amalfi coast. Just off the main walkway in town of Amalfi, the local decor and ambiance is quite pleasant. The dinner menu was full of great options. The caprese salad is recommended. Highlight was definitely the Genovese meat sauce pasta, specialty of the house. Fresh grilled fish was also excellent. Service was attentive. Not cheap, but in line with other top Amalfi coast restaurants. The only criticism I have is that there was some construction going on directly across the walkway. No noise at night, but that building was draped, so the view from the terrace was not the best. Still, the meal was worth the temporary impairment of the view. Hopefully, it is now completed. On a warm night, you surely want to sit outside.

We came to heaven on Earth :) Wonderfull place, stylish and gentle staff, excellent food. Our waiter was really nice and his English was perfect, so he was able to explain us clearly the specialities of the day and recommend a really tasty wine.
