Spent my 60th birthday at this hotel and boy was it good. A slight problem with the room on arrival was quickly resolved and for the rest of the 7 days we were there it was fab-u-lous. The staff were always attentive, the food was gorgeous and the views magnificent. If I am still around on my 70th we'll be back.

Room Tip: We booked a double room and the air con was not working so they upgraded us to a Junior Suite. I will book a Junior Suite next time

Im not going to bother with the good stuff, you can read that in the glossy's. I am so cross with this hotel. They pertain to be 5 star, but the reality is 3 star at best:

Room - if you do stay here resist the rooms on the 5th floor, actually the "ground" floor. These rooms are set off a very long corridor leading from the lift to reception and in the med style, the floors are stone, as are the walls and ceiling The corridor is thus noisy and has a distinct ehco. You will also have to put up with the noise from reception - telephones, computers and other guests, the whole coridor is pervaded with these noises.

The rooms are bare minimalist with no room for storage, This miniamalisim extended to our bathroom, which had no curtains or screen of any kind. A full view of the harbour and vice-versa.

You are not allowed to iron clothes in the room. A blatent effort to make you use the services of the maid. 8 euros for the smallest item!, everything idvidually priced, so around 200 euros for the contents of our suitacase. Upon quering this we were informed that it was the law, so we felt unable to argue the case further. On our return our travel agent said that there was no such law. One is left with the thought that it must therefore simply be hotel policy and an effort to rim us off.

The air conditioning was very noisy.

Room not ready on arrival, so had a 30/45 minute wait. We were served one complimentary punch drink each while we waited.

The spa is not real, just a pokey series of treatment rooms. We did not try it out.

One is left with the sour tatse that the hotel trades on its position and past grandeur.

Upon returing home we were sent the standard guest feedback form to complete. Included in this form is a box to tick if you would like a personal reply. They didnt bother to reply to the feedback.

Room Tip: Inspect room before unpacking.

the hotel building dates from 1100 and has on of the best location of Amalfi. We went there as its a NH hotel and the contradiction of a modern renovated hotel in a historical place looked very interesting.

unfortunately we were very dissapointed. The personel is not experienced at all !!!!! We waited 32 minutes in the lobby to be told after all this time that our room is not ready, drinkssuch the ones we hwd in the pool bar are not served even to all inclusive hotels, in general the pool area was left with no care, you could not know if the chair was available or not as the responsible person was too slow in picking up the towels after guests were leaving.
All information that was given to us in the reception was wrong (were to buy some things, last order in a restaurant etc). Worst... as we were only staying for 17 hours after we check in we went for a tour and came back at 17.30 to relax in the pool when they told us that the pool is closing at 18.00!!!!!!!! in July with 30 degrees outside you come back to your 5 star hotel where you pay 500 eurosper night for a standard room with sea view to relax in the pool and they tell you that you can't.. Ofcourse after a huge fight they let us go... but if you need to fight for the basics...

on the good side.. one of the best breakfast i have ever had , delicious and elegant. Try it
Its a shame as this should be the best hotel in amalfi coast -location and design is superb.. dont go unless there is a 100% improvement

What a disappointment! Reading the reviews guests have had varied experiences, ours was abysmal. The location and views are stunning but not worth ruining your holiday with a stay here. Service was extremely poor with staff "sour" and more interested in style (theirs and the hotel's) than service. It was impossible to have a shower without flooding the bathroom, storage non-existent (don't take more than one change of clothes), breakfast only "good" if you want a large sweet pastry selection - very average.

We understand NH hotels only manages this property, it is actually owned by the municipality of Amalfi, so this may account for their lack of interest and making this the spectacular hotel it should be.

It's funny to sit having cocktails and see the arriving guests look at awe over the discovery they have made - knowing that was how it effected you too. The bay sweeps out around the convent and the town of Amalfi bustles over on the left of the view while in the foreground the sailboats and pleasure cruisers pull into the marina.
The service is relaxed, friendly and reserved. The rooms a modern pared down practical zone of privacy. The restaurant staffed by ex Sasso staff and possibly the best modern eating on the Amalfi coast.
Don't be put off by the pictures of the pool - the grey is not cement but sun bleached slate there is ample seating and lounging space around both levels of the pool terrace.
What's the bad... I honestly don't know.? The steps back up to the hotel ... The desire to never leave and have every meal in the hotel due to the superb food and service.
I didn't want to tell anyone about this hotel it's that nice. So let's keep it our secret OK?
