I had read about the museum in a tour book and while visiting Amalfi and decided that a break from the endless tourists stores would be welcome. It was surprisingly fun and learning the history and art of paper making enjoyable. They can actually run the machines from the water supply and the old water wheels. Anyway, quick simple tour and a cute gift shop where you can buy handmade paper items and the like. Worth a visit and it won't strain your budget to get in.

I read about this museum whilst browsing my guidebook on the boat from Sorrento to Amalfi, and thought it sounded really interesting. It’s a short walk uphill from the tourist centre of Amalfi and well worth a visit. For just four euros per person, you get a guided tour of an old paper mill, now a museum, and the chance to learn about the ancient art of paper making, which first came to Amalfi in the twelfth century. Some of the machinery still works, and the guide switches it on for you as part of the tour. I can honestly say this is one of the best small museums I have ever visited.

The lady at the TI recommended this interesting museum. It's a 15 minute hike from the the bus lot in Amalfi, but well worth it. We were given a very informative tour describing the history of paper manufacturing in Amalfi. Very nice displays and a lovely array of gifts in the gift shop.

Our girls ages 11 and 14 were definitely amazed by how paler was made back in the 13th century! This museum has been excavated with some of the original equipment that was used and they show the types of paper made from cotton from centuries ago! They have good English speaking guides and it’s well worth the 4 euros admission fee. The visit is only about an hour and is a 10 minute slightly uphill walk from the main town center.

It's an uphill walk along the main shopping street, but well worth the effort. Small museum and gift shop. Take the tour and you'll see interesting old machines from the paper making industry and get to see them in motion.
