“Fabulous - the Gem of the Amalfi Coast!”
Reviewed 7 September 2010

My husband, our adult daughters and I stayed at Aurora in late August, on our way driving along the Amalfi Coast. We booked the Sea View rooms, and they were worth every penny! The hotel is just to the west of the central core of the town, almost at the end of a little road, and very quiet. The views were spectacular, and we were there on the full moon - couldn't ask for better! The staff were friendly and efficient, the beds were comfortable, the breakfast was great (and served on a lovely floral terrace).

I can't recommend this hotel highly enough.

The hotel is quite basic and not very impressive to look at on arrival. However, the reception staff are some of the best we have come across on our travels.

The hotel has a private beach (at a cost) but then everything is on the Amalfi coast, it is well worth the money!

I would definitely recommend upgrading the room as we had one of the larger ones on the top floor with our own balcony looking out over the sea, it was stunning!!

The bar area is in serious need of an update but the breakfast and the area it is served in is fantastic! It was a lovely end to our 10 trip along coastline.

Amalfi itself is not the best place we visited along the way but is definitely worth a stop!

Paid extra for a room with a terrace and was thrilled with the room. The view was spectacular, the room was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. The staff was very helpful when planning day trips and the hotel was within easy walking distance to the center of town. The breakfast served on their patio was perfect and also came with a view. Am looking forward to returning in the near future.

I always check trip advisor before i book any hotel and we have been travelling all around the world. This is the only hotel review that has ever failed us. Hotel Aurora was simply a huge let down. Are the hotel staff writing these reviews?

Here are 8 reasons for not staying at hotel Aurora:

1. We arrived to find no-one on reception. I was waiting for 10 minutes before anyone came. This is a problem if you have a car like us, as you will get grief from impatient locals, whilst you wait. And the same thing happened as we checked out!
2. The hotel explains that parking is included but infact it costs 15 Euro a day to park.
3. After a huge treck around the untidy corridoors of the hotel, we came to our very small room. From the reviews we were so excited to see our view and patio area but were sadened to find a tiny balcony with views of a high, white brick wall. We had the noisiest air con, which moaned, flashed and disturbed us throughout the night. I'm sure that needed checking out.
4. Other reviews say the hotel rooms was spotless. Well.. the radiators were thick with dust and don't even look under the bed!!!! DISGUSTING!!!!
5. Breakfast was set up outside. The views were lovely. Unfortuately the food is left out for quite a while, so watch out for the flies swimming round in the fruit.
6. Location is good, as it was close to the main road with all it's restaurants. However, on your way there you pass through a 2 carparking areas, where you put your life at risk, breathing in car fumes.
7. As for the private beach, which you had to pay 15 euro a day to use. I felt if that was the hotel facilities shouldn't that be included? We had a look at the beach, however it wasn't the most attractive beach. More like rocks and dirt.
8. Finally, the hotel explains through paper signs plastered all over your walls that you will be charged 10 euro a day to place your beverages into YOUR mini bar in YOUR room. You are not allowed to bring food or drinks into the room and if they are found by the maids, they will throw them away.
Well i hope that this is my 1st and last review that i write on trip advisor. I just felt so cheated by other reviews!
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DON'T EVER STAY AT THIS HOTEL!!!!!

A lovely hotel with very helpful staff in a great location with a nice private beach. Be warned however that not all the rooms are airconditioned and in summer in Amalfi you need airconditioning to be really comfortable. We ended up cutting our stay short by one day and moved to an airconditioned room in a hotel down the road.To enjoy your stay at this hotel get a room with a/c and a view.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Aurora Hotel is the perfect spot to spend an unforgettable holiday in Amalfi.Located nearby the Amalfi Marina, the hotel is only 500 meters from the hustle and bustle of Piazza Duomo. It is the ideal accommodation for visiting the Amalfi Coast and its picturesque villages, such as Ravello, Positano, Capri and even the Pompeii Excavation, which are all within easy reach. The bus station and the wharf are only 5 minutes’ walk from the hotel. After a long day-trip, Aurora Hotel is just a short walk to downtown and the beach, and it is accessible without climbing stairs. One final recommendation from the hotel management: if you want to spend a few relaxing days in Amalfi, please check Aurora Hotel location on Google Maps and compare it with other hotels. Most of Amalfi hotels are located in the noisy old Town, accessible by climbing long stairs; some others are located on the highway to Positano, so you will need to take the bus, a taxi or your car in order to reach the city, driving down one of the busiest roads in Italy! ... more   less
