“Wonderful Setting”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 December 2008

Stayed here with our extended family in July for 2 weeks. It is a wonderfully relaxing place to stay with amazing views from just about every room in the hotel.
The rooms are fairly small and basic (we were in the east wing) and the couple in our party who paid extra for a superior room did not think it was worth it. There are lots of terraces down towards the sea and the pool with ample seating and the most beautiful views out to sea and over Amalfi.
We walked down to Amalfi every evening for drinks in a little bar and found that the hotel shuttle bus runs at a perfect time for heading back for dinner.
We stayed on a half board basis and really enjoyed our dinners - in the whole fortnight we did not have the same thing twice. I agree coffee at breakfast could be improved but the waiters are more than happy to make a fresh cappucino if you ask them and having breakfast outside on the terrace with that amazing view more than makes up for any defficiency. The majority of staff were really friendly and helpful and parking was easy on the roof of the hotel.
Altogether a lovely place and we plan to go back to stay there again some time.

We stayed in this hotel for a week and were very pleased with it. On arrival at the hotel there was a porter to take our luggage down the steps into reception and checkin was very easy. Our room, though fairly small was very clean and had a balcony with a fantastic view overlooking Amalfi one way & the sea the other. The floor was tiled which i thought more in keeping wth the style of the hotel and more hygenic than the usual carpet. It was very quiet which was a plus, and the balcony door had a ventilated shutter over it so we could close it to keep the heat out at night but still get air into the room. There was also a glass door which when closed blocked out any outside noise (eg kids throwing firecrackers in town) & the A/C was very efficient. The bed was comfortable but was let down by some very lumpy pillows, However when I left a note for housekeeping, written in my best phrase book Italian, asking for softer pillows, they did provide a new one & although it wasn't much better than the others, it did show that they were trying to help. The staff were quite pleasant but the outstanding one was a guy called Arturo on reception. He was incredibly helpful, friendly and efficient and whenever we asked him something he would do his best to help.
We booked excursions to Rome, Pompei & Herculaneum through the hotel which worked well except that the hotel insisted in them being paid for in cash, rather than credit cards which meant a couple of extra trips to the service till. If you stay here it's worth remembering this and allowing extra cash.
Breakfast was Ok though not outstanding and didn't entice us to eat dinner at the hotel. Amalfi is about a 10 minute walk away & there are plenty of places to visit for dinner. The walk back up the hill afterwards worked off the pasta or pizza we'd eaten.
Although the lumpy pillows and the food wouldn't let me give it a five star rating, it definitely gets 4 stars and i would recommend it to anybody. It's comfortable, clean and unpretentious and I would go back like a shot. given the chance.

So staying at the Miramalfi was a bit of a splurge but it was soooo worth it. The staff are really really friendly, a bit overly attentive for my tastes but not annoyingly so and they were quick to adapt to people who prefer more down to earth service!

The veiw from the room was amazing, the view from the bar - amazing, the view from the pool -amazing, the view from breakfast ...amazing!, this place is all about those views and they are truely wonderful. In fact the best view comes when you jump in to the sea, swim out a few metres in the wonderful clear water and turn back to appreciate the beauty of how the hotel is built in to the cliff and how cleverly the pool is blended in the rock

The pool was fantastic and though it got busy it was never overly crowded and the atmosphere was always calm and peaceful, meaning you could just chill and stare out at those uninterrupted sea veiws

We booked B+B only which was great as we strolled down into Amalfi every night and had some great dinners in both fancy and little tucked away locals places. The walk is not ideal but it takes no time, downhill on the way to town and a couple of glasses of wine at dinner make the walk back up the stairs seem much more manageable. (take the stairs and you only need to be on the scary road for about 100 metres)

I would recommend this hotel to anyone

We spent 10 days on a half-board basis late August/early September. From our reception to departure all staff were welcoming, friendly and courteous; the dining room staff particularly so-very ready to suggest alternatives if one of the courses on the 'Table d'hote Menu' was not to our taste. The quality of food was consistently good with a reasonable range of choices for each course. Our room was clean and comfortable with a splendid view of the harbour from the balcony.

Our only criticisms are: (i) the dire quality of coffee at breakfast, (ii)Inadequate bathroom ventilation, (iii) the very limited courtesy bus shuttle service.

We normally only book hotels on a b&b basis but decided to try half board at the Miramalfi. This proved to be a very good choice.
The buffet breakfast is ok but nothing to get exited about. However the evening meal is excellent. A four course menu is provded each time with several choices but the staff are always pleased to provide an alternative. The staff all seem happy to be working at the Hotel and are really motivated to ensure that guests enjoy their stay. The Hotel is in two wings. We stayed in the west wing. The rooms are quite small and simple but have all been recently refurbished. I believe that rooms in the east wing are a little larger but have yet to be done up. All rooms have a balcony giving amazing views of Amalfi. The walk into town is quite strenuous and not for the faint hearted due to traffic. A shuttle is available at set times if you dont fancy the fifteen minute walk. One word of warning (nothing to do with the Hotel ) keep a very careful watch for forged notes in your change, especially at any of the real tourist traps (Pompei,Sorrento etc.)
All in all a very pleasant hotel with an outstanding location.

We stayed here for 4 nights and enjoyed it,,the room was very pleasant and the view was great.

The room was clean and well kept with a good bathroom.

Breakfast was good with amazing views over the sea.

there is a bit of a walk to the town..the hotel has a shuttle but could operate a bit more often to be really usefull. Taxi's are a rip off in the area so you are better to walk. We did most of the time except one night.

Most of the staff where helpful and friendly with the exception of one senior man at the reception desk who was friendly and rarely smiled. There was also a guy in charge of the breakfast room who was wearing a white tuxedo who was grumpy most mornings as well. Apart from that the staff were good and the lady who did our room was very polite.

The only concern I had was the water quality in the sea near the hotel..I went swimming every day but on the last morning i noticed what looked like sewrage drifting in from out to sea..I then noticed a Govt official taking water samples from the sea.

That night I also noticed a large oil slick coming from a small fishing boat in the harbor,,who was emptying engine oil into the sea. This is beyond the hotels control but authorities should maintain a clean environment for tourist areas and protect the coastline.

There is a very nice pool for swimming also.

Thanks for a nice stay.

Pros: The hotel sits on the side of a mountain overlooking the town of amalfi. The views are spectacular and the rooms are very clean and spacious in comparison to other hotels we stayed at. The breakfast was excellent and you can even walk to Amalfi without putting out a great deal of effort. Would definitely stay there again if I could afford it!
