Everything was excellent: location, staff, food, cleanliness. I liked the room very much, the orchard of lemon trees, and ,of course, the view from the terrace . We would come back for sure. Our stay was here was delightful.

We chose to spend our Honeymoon at Villa Lara because of it's fantastic reviews on Trip Advisor; we weren't disappointed! It is a truly delightful bed & breakfast in a stunning setting with wonderful staff.
From the moment we arrived and walked around an orchard of lemon trees and then under an archway of the sweetest-smelling flowering climbers to get to our room, we fell in love with Villa Lara. We breakfasted each morning on the terrace looking out over Amalfi Town as we munched our croissants, cheese and salami, often with a slice of delicious lemon cake to finish off. We could have stayed there all day!
Our room was perfect and we spent many an hour on the private terrace, enjoying a glass of red and taking in the view.
We can't thank Nello, Luigi, Luca and Petro enough for being so welcoming, personable and helpful. I really think they help make Villa Lara the success it is. We didn't want to leave!
We would recommend Villa Lara to anyone who wants a stunningly beautiful and peaceful paradise on the Amalfi Coast. We would definitely come back.
Thank you Nello and co for a fantastic stay.

I contacted the hotel in advance of our trip to confirm a few details – Luca was great and responded immediately to my emails. They arranged for a driver to pick us up from Salerno train station as we were coming in from Rome – very glad we did this after a long journey on the train. We were greeted by Nello upon arrival who quickly showed us our room on the ground floor (the coral room). I had seen pictures of this room on TA and had thought the bathroom looked a little worse for wear and was hoping it wasn’t going to be the room we were allocated but unfortunately it was and I must admit I was a little disappointed. The bedroom was fine, just enough space for two people but very little space if you have a lot of luggage. We only had one large suitcase so we didn’t find it too cramped. There’s one small wardrobe and a desk so not a lot of storage space. The bathroom is located on the left as soon as you enter the room and is very small and narrow. There’s no space to place toiletries and there’s only a small shower which has definitely seen better days.

I immediately asked Nello whether it was possible to change or upgrade the room (I was willing to pay extra for a better room) but he said here was no availability. Despite the disappointment with our room (maybe our expectations were too high!) we ended up having a great stay at this hotel. There’s a great vibe to this little place, this is mainly down to the staff who are so friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very enjoyable, with fresh bread and cake every morning. Fresh cheese and salami was also available on request. Luca makes the best cappuccino! The hotel is also very clean, house keeping did a great job cleaning our room every day. The main reception area is also very clean and tidy, decor is simple yet authentic.

The location is brilliant, just a short down hill stroll to the main square. Perfectly safe to walk at night. The views are stunning from the hotel reception and we also had a pretty nice view from our bedroom window too.

For the price per night, this hotel is unbeatable value compared to the ridiculous prices of some the ‘high end’ hotels in Amalfi. I searched for weeks trying to find a reasonably priced hotel and I was very apprehensive after I booked this place but I’m so glad I did and would highly recommend it to anyone who’s not willing to pay £300+ per night for some of the more well known hotels in Amalfi.

Room Tip: Avoid the coral room

What an lovely and unusual hotel with a magnificent view of Amalfi and the sea.

The cream on the cake was however the quality of the Staff. Nello, Luca nd of course Luigi. They were wonderful.

I had a serious problem with my Avis Hire Car. The service on the emengency phone number can only be described as abysmal. I mentione d this to Nello who took all of the relevant papers from me - more or less ordered my wife and me to go to town and have a good lunch - while he sorted out the problem.

By the time we got back the sorting was done. With thier excellent quality of non-service to regular customers Avis had told Nello that they could take away the damaged car but could NOT supply a replacement (Yes I found it hard to believe that with Salerno and Napoli close by they did not have one spare car). Nello responded by sorting out how we could get back to Rome airport without Avis's help and got Avis to agree to refund all charges. I am really not sure how we could have coped without Nello.

SO we were able to reax during our short stay at the Villa Lara and see our friends who were also staying in Amalfi.

One thing that the hotel shouls mention is that although the hotel would be lovely for older people access is quite difficult with no lift available to cope with all of the stairs.

Dr Hart
thank you for the review , we appreciate it .
We would like to inform all the future lovely old guests that we do have a lift to reach the lobby.
Amalfi coast is famous all over the world for the stairs, and people pay to go to the gym just for the step machine, here the few ones are free of charge, in case you don't like to take the lift.

We greatly enjoyed our stay at Villa Lara B&B!! The views from the room, and terrace were breathtaking! The staff were extremely hospitable and friendly, and went above and beyond to make us feel at home and comfortable.

We were in the Emerald room, which was spacious, comfortable, modern with a rustic charm, and definitely clean. The elevator lift was a plus too. Breakfast was delicious! We enjoyed the lemon cake and tarts, with freshly made cappuccino and juices. Sitting on the terrace eating our breakfast was a memorable experience - it's so peaceful up there, and with an amazing view, we felt as though we had Amalfi all to ourselves!

We travelled by train from Rome to Salerno, and then took the "blue" SITA bus to Amalfi. The bus trip from Salerno to Amalfi was a joy-ride of winding roads and beautiful views! When we arrived, we found out that we could have also taken a water taxi for 8 euros from Salerno to Amalfi in only 30 minutes (versus 75 minutes by bus); but we're still glad to have taken the bus route as it was an interesting journey. Getting to Villa Lara from the Duomo in the only piazza, was super easy - just a straight path up the street to the top.

Very thankful to have chosen Villa Lara! We highly recommend this B&B to anyone who is visiting Amalfi.

We selected this accommodation having checked with Trip Advisor and we certainly weren't disappointed. We were grateful for the advice of the hotel team headed by the ever so genial Nello to take a taxi from Naples Airport. It was not cheap but it was quick and very scenic. The drivers limited English left us feeling confused when we first arrived in Amalfi - we thought we were being dumped in the town centre but he was unable to drive close to the hotel because at the time of our arrival the narrow main street was thronging with pedestrians and local traffic - but our alarm did not last long for he summoned a porter and buggy to ferry us the last few hundred yards to the Villa Lara! The location of the hotel is near perfect - towering majestically over glorious Amalfi on the edge of town yet only minutes walk away from restaurants, bars and cafes and the main street and town centre. We looked up at all the steps leading up to the hotel and gasped, thought about ageing knees and then remembered we had read about a lift. This was approached through a short walk through a tunnel of the most heavenly scented jasminoides and then up in the lift to be greeted by Luca. He informed us that due to circumstances we had been upgraded at no extra cost to suite with spectacular views and private terrace. It's all white decor is starkly dramatic with the rocky face of the mountainside protruding into the very spacious room- so unique! We had a shower rather than bath and my wife was just a little disappointed about this but we had not requested a bath and for the exceptional value we could hardly carp! This is a hotel of only seven rooms and all are unique. The size of the hotel allowed for a very relaxed and intimated feel - the perfect atmosphere to chill. The public areas were spotless tastefully decorated and with a small but charming terrace to breakfast alfresco and a garden patio to enjoy the wonderful views over the rooftops of Amalfi down to the sea what more could you wish for! Breakfast could be taken over a three hour period and this is typically continental - juices, cereals, local meats and cheeses delicious pastries and cakes and of course a full choice of hot beverages - cappuccini the absolute best tasted! A hotel of this size so benefits from a small team of obliging staff and in the case of Luca, Pietro and the charismatic Nello nothing was too much trouble! I particularly enjoyed the banter and sence of humour of Nello and this humour did not seem to be lost on the other guests of varying nationalities . My wife celebated her birthday during our stay and we returned on the day to find a beautiful bouquet gifted by the hotel -a very nice gesture! We truly could not imagine anyone not enjoying their stay at this charming jewel in the crown of the Amalfi coast. We will return and hope it won't be too long before we get the chance . However,as a footnote there were no views from our window of the Hanging Gardens of Babylon or herds of wildebeests roaming across the plains........,.Basil do your best before our return!!
