“Good, but not great”
Reviewed 31 July 2014 via mobile

Villa Lara is a small B&B clanging on to the hillside just outside the center of Amalfi. A pretty shady and damp entrance that was pretty hard to find due to small signs, a lift taking you to the reception. The rooms were clean, but nothing extra ordinary. We had ordered separate beds but got upgraded to superior room and a king size bed instead (?).
The breakfast was good, served on the terrace overlooking the city.
Minus for the "private beach" info, that was incorrect and also for the parking fee that wasn't mentioned at parking, check in or check out (18€ for 18h).

Adorable, charming and quiet, stunning views, perfect location, in the heart of amalfi. Spotlessly clean throughout and friendly staff will welcome you and make you feel at home and assist you with your every need. We LOVED it here and didn't want to leave. Highly recommended. Luca, Nello and Luigi were amazing to us for our entire stay. We are very grateful to them for making our stay so wonderful. Luigi recommended some amazing restaurants to us which made our time here extra special

We chose this hotel mainly based on the reviews written by others and we were so happy we did.... We couldn't have chosen a better base to discover this beautiful coastline. The staff were so helpful at all times, nothing was too much trouble and there was always somebody around to speak to. Breakfast on the terrace was just beautiful with stunning views down over the rest of Amalfi out to the sea. Highly recommended.

We are at the end of a most unforgettable family vacation in amalfi at villa lara. This was the perfect choice for a group of this size (20 people, including 7 small children). We reserved the entire villa due to the fact that we had so many little ones and did not want to disturb others. It is a very charming place, with 7 different and unique rooms. Everything was immaculate and well appointed, and whatever you requested was provided immediately. The staff makes this gem even more special-nello, luca and luigi. Your wish is their command! They made us feel welcome and never uncomfortable with the kids running around all over the place. They anticipated our every desire and offered advice whenever we needed. This was a very special occasion-my husbands 60th birthday celebration with our children, grandchildren, sister and brother with their families and for sure it will be remembered by all! This place is a must for sure!!

I have recently returned from a 10 day trip to Amafli with my partner, 6 nights of which were spent at Villa Lara. We could not stay the extra 4 because it was fully booked, but would have loved to.

The location of the villa is a 10 minute walk from the centre of Amalfi. It is not a steep walk at all and barely even feels uphill. When you arrive at the villa, there is a choice to take the steps or use the lift. The lift was incredibly useful - the villa is located high up on the cliffs, so the steps up can be a little knackering in the heat.

The room was clean, bright and spacious. A big double bed, a TV and the bathroom was always clean with toilet paper and towels.

The breakfast was delicious. I can be quite fussy about this so was ready to go out for breakfast when we arrived, but we were both so pleased with what was on offer. Fresh croissants, yoghurt, cereal, salami and cheese, toast, fruit - they have it all, and the staff wait on you constantly, anticipating when you want a tea/coffee/water or juice. The breakfast terrace is an intimate balcony with an impressive view of Amalfi town and the sea, a real delight to wake up to.

All of this aside, I would give a 5* review just for the staff alone. Nello, Lucca and Luigi run the place and I have never experienced service like it before. Luigi immediately greeted us when we arrived with a glass of wine and, despite speaking less English than the rest of the staff, is always keen to please. He recommends the best restaurants in town. Nello and Lucca speak excellent English and, like Luigi, want to make sure you are always happy. It is not overbearing at all, they are genuinely interested in what you have planned and want to see if they can offer any local advice. I have been on many holidays and experienced a lot of good staff, but the staff at Villa Lara make the stay that little bit special.

If anyone is reading this and would like to book - please go directly to them, as websites take a huge cut of the fee. Nello and Lucca both speak impeccable English and are highly reliable. If I were to go again (and I would not hesitate) this is what I will be doing.

Thank you for such a wonderful stay - Nina

My wife and I have been to Italy several times and, for me, Villa Lara was the best experience. As other reviewers noted, it's in the quiet part of town, yet it is an east walk. And the setting - particularly the breakfast terrace - is immaculate. ( A great picture of the view is on the hotel's Facebook page.)
The breakfast is great, too, filling enough that I only snacked for lunch.
However, the best thing about the hotel is the staff - always helpful with hiking suggestions, restaurant tips and anything you might want to ask about.
I told my wife that I'm vowing to return for a longer stay when I retire. We were there 4 nights and it was not enough. That was my mistake.

Villalara is situated in the quieter part of Amalfi. Before we arrived, Luca sent us a pre-welcoming note and check if we need any help in arranging for transfers. He anticipated our travel needs and was helpful with our queries.

The room is clean, comfortable and well equipped. The rest of the staff are also very helpful and friendly. We had a lot of personal toiletries, but the housekeeping staff knows what to top-up/arrange, and what to leave to ourselves.

Hospitality was also top notch. We offered a couple of slices of our pizza to the the uncle on duty, and were treated with a bottle of delicious Prosseco!

Amalfi commemorates their patron saint on this day of 27 June. As we were writing this review, we had just finished watching a spectacular display of fireworks on this lovely little balcony of the hotel.
