We stayed here in the belief that paying more than 100 euros would get us something a bit special...ha ha! I should have known that Amalfi is prohibitively expensive and not the place for people on a budget. The twin room we got (and others we peeked into when the maids were cleaning) was very basic and ordinary! They are calling this place a 3-star when really it feels like a small, basic B and B with 1 star. The staff were incredibly rude and suspicious of everything. The women "on duty" huddled together in the nearby office and would only come out to help with a great deal of huffing and puffing. They really made us feel unwelcome, a hindrance to whatever gossip they were enjoying. Amalfi and especially this hotel made it obvious that if you don't have big bucks to spend they just don't have time (or charm) for you.

Overall a lovely hotel with a private beach which a big plus in the area as there are not many beaches generally! Rooms were quite basic but had a lovely view and were clean. Not sure I would class as 5 star? Only one small towel each and one flat pillow! Breakfast was disappointing but ok. Easy reach of Amalfi although parking can be difficult. A couple of good restaurants in walking distance aswell though which was good. A good overall choice though if you are visiting Amalfi and probably one of the best hotels.

A lot of hotels claiming to be in Amalfi actually aren't, and turn out to be several miles away. This one however is slap bang in the middle of town, tucked away off the main street - less than 5 minutes walk to the sea, and close to lots of shops and restaurants. Staff are very friendly, welcoming and helpful and speak excellent English. Room was of a good standard for 3* - very clean and tidy with a well-equipped bathroom. Breakfast was excellent, served on a terrace at the top of the hotel with great views.

One downside was quite a lot of noise from the street, waking us up occasionally. A recurring sound was what sounded like someone dragging a body in a sack down some steps. Given that it happened several nights over it may have been something else (or Amalfi's a less safe place than we'd bargained on!). You can expect a bit of noise in that sort of location though, and it wouldn't put us off going back

We had no plans to stay in Hotel Amalfi, because: (a) it is not a good location if you have a car. You have to drive right through the piazza and center of Amalfi, and then you have to pay 35 euro/night to park in the garage! (b) it is a typical small-town European hotel, with views into alleyways, etc. We did not come to the Amalfi Coast to look at back alleys and hear noises of drunkards and construction which lasted until about 2 am and then resumed at about 5 or 6 am (with what sounded like workers right outside the hotel chipping or throwing terracotta or masonry)

We ended up here because the owners of Hotel Doria, who also own this hotel, GAVE AWAY our reserved (and paid for) room to someone else, so when we arrived at 8 pm they told us too bad, but that we could stay at Hotel Amalfi. We did not spend thousands of dollars and travel thousands of miles to stay in a downtown hotel -- we had just had that experience (but far more interesting) for 2 nights in the historical center of Naples.

The room they gave us was big enough and was clean, and the location is right in the heart of Amalfi -- but that didn't help anything, because they told us we had to leave the garage by 11 am, which meant the central location still didn't afford us any time to walk around and explore, and we felt stress and pressure to return (although we talked them into letting us stay in the garage an extra 2 hours). The rooftop breakfast has some nice views, though the food could be better... mostly just breads, not many options for protein -- no eggs, for example. And they give you the evil eye if you go back for seconds.

And 35 euro/night (currently about $50 USD) for parking is highway robbery, so if you do consider staying in this hotel, you'd better not have a car. And I wouldn't count on them upholding your room reservation, either. After all, it's the same owners as Hotel Doria who completely ignored our booking (reserved and paid for MONTHS ago, in December) -- they pretty much ruined our ONE night we had on the Amalfi coast (first time in our lives), our one chance to have a cliffside/seaview room and they stuck us in this typical downtown albergo instead.

Dear Sir,
Thank you for being left on tripadvisor review.
I confirm that we have offered our best services in relation to the price paid, not to us but to a tour operator.
The Hotel Doria had some problem in the room reserved for Your and your booking has been given at the Hotel Amalfi, the same category.
This is a normal procedure used around the world!!!!!
Please remember that the car park at the Hotel Amalfi was offered free of charge and that You never paid the fee of € 25.00 (€ 35.00 lies.)
The room booked at the Hotel Doria was a standard, the Hotel Amalfi has offered a superior room with no additional fee plus a welcome bottle of italian spumante .
In addition, the Amalfi Hotel, is located in the town center and in economic terms is more expensive than the Hotel Doria
Therefore the Hotel Amalfi have offered You more than due
You has no right to judge a country and a structure for the few hours spent.
Let me tell you that although young people You are two very unhappy people
Best regards

We stayed for 2 weeks at end of September 2010. Hotel was great value and even better location. The hotel is situated right in the centre of Amalfi but is still "off-the-beaten-track", so is quiet and relaxing, no street or car noises. It is near the cathedral, but this didn't bother us too much. Take this in to acount if some noise will affect your stay, although with windows shut the bells could bearly be heard at all. There are steps to the hotel, which could be difficult for some.
Our room was on 3rd floor and looked out over lemon trees with the hills in the background. Our double room was clean (cleaned everyday!) and plenty big enough for us. Bathroom was very clean and although not huge did have a bath and a shower (fresh towels daily).
Breakfast was served on the roof terrace there is also lots of space inside (just incase it did rain). The breakfast was buffet style, a variety of ham, cheese, bread, yoghurt, cereals, as well as fruit juice and tea/coffee. We made sure we ate breakfast everyday as this can help reduce food costs.
Staff were very friendly and always plesant. They all seemed to speak reasonable English and were able to give advice about places to go and transport.
We used the collection service from the airport (and again to get back), although not cheap I would highly recommend, as the road from Naples to Amalfi are crazy. There is no way I would EVER want to drive in this part of the world.
As you can probably tell from all the above we had a great stay here and would highly recommend.
On the downside...the decor is a little tired, but you get what you paid for, I would rather pay less and have slightly dated decor. I guess some people would struggle with the location, as there are lots of steps, so not ideal for those less mobile or prams/buggys for kids.

After having a very pleasant stay last year, we decided this year to use this hotel again as our base while visiting the Amalfi Coast t. We were given a very nice room with an outdoor terrace. It appears the room had been updated within the past year and provided a very comfortable and clean place to stay. As was our discovery last year, the staff was both very friendly and helpful, especially Samantha, whose grasp of the English language was great. She provided us with very useful information about the area and some fine recommendations on places to dine. Although we did not partake in the daily breakfast provided, from our experience last year, it was very typical of what we had seen throughout Italy. The one big change we found was the parking situation. Previously, you left your auto at the hotel garage and they would make arrangements to transport it to an offsite garage. Now you have to drive to the new garage, about 1,000 meters up the street and walk back to the hotel. They do transport your luggage at no charge (we did tip the driver). If the weather is really bad, which it was on the day we left, they did drive us to the garage to pick up the car. There are some very nice places in the area to dine, such as La Perla,(Great service and delicious food) which is located directly next to the hotel. Samantha recommended Trattoria e Pizzeria da Meme (We would definitely go back there as the food was delicious and portions were substantial) which was just up the street. We also ate at Risto Ristorante, a family run establishment and Il Tari. A word of caution on Il Tari, as many of the items on the menu are only served for two or more people. They do not advertise this if you look at the menu outside the restaurant and could be disappointed when you order. I would highly recommend the Hotel Amalfi should your travels take you to this lovely oceanside town.

We were 2 ladies travelling Italy for 1 month we spent 3 nights at the hotel and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Even arrange to take our baggage down to ferry when we were leaving. The breakfast on the roof top is very nice with great views and it is located next to a wonderful restaurant La Perla which we ate at all 3 nights very reasonable prices. It is located right in the middle of Amalfi town and there are a number of steps up to the hotel but the location makes up for this, we only negotiated them once with luggage. The rates were very reasonable and this was a 2nd stay at this hotel within approx 12 months for my friend, which is a good recommendation.
