“An interesting place”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 July 2013

Definitely worth a visit. Unfortunately the most interesting right) side was closed off when we were there, but the courtyard and the outside are quite striking.

“don't miss the crypt !”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 June 2013

Magnificent, the crypt has the remains of St Matthew. There is the central altar with the statue of Michelangelo Naccherino and on the side an altar with remains of Salernitan martyrs with statues of the same Naccherino. If you are in Salerno, must see, entrance is free of charge.

“OPULENCE AT IT'S FINEST”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 May 2013

We'll Salerno, you did it....even back around 1050 or so everything had to be gold, gold and oh, more gold......now don't get me wrong, if you love gold it's beautiful . The downstairs is something I've never witnessed.....I have seen many many churches in Italy, this one takes the prize for overkill......
All of Italy could be fed forever on the amount of gold and inlaid......
I'm happy I got the chance to see such a spectacle.....
It's also a burial ground for saints and popes.......so much for vowels of poverty....

“Tales of the Crypt”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 May 2013

Wow, you have to go downstairs to the crypt. One of the most beautiful views in Italy. After, try if you need a glass of wine or espresso, there is a little restaurant across from the entrance. We ordered a glass of wine and (I assume, the co-owner) brought us a plate of little sandwiches and treats. Really nice of them.

But don't you just hate it when you are not allowed to take photos and there aren't any postcards to buy
