We recently had a four-night stay in Sorrento at the Ulisse Deluxe Hostel. The staff here are exceptional--sincerely friendly and very helpful--they quickly and efficiently assisted us with further travel plans and always with a kind smile (Chiara, Giuseppe and Emanuela were particularly helpful to us and they are so happy always!!). The Hostel is in a great location to walk throughout Sorrento and they lent us umbrellas when we went out walking in those occasional downpours.

There is also a gym and wellness centre which we didn't use, but also didn't expect with a hostel.

Only downsides--hallway noise permeates into the room, so if not an early riser, could be a problem; room cleaning could be improved.

Good definitely overrode the bad. Highly recommend it.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at end of hallway away from elevator to avoid hallway traffic and elevator noise.

This hotel has a lovely atmosphere, spacious and quiet. The cost for my double room (used as a single) was moderate given the level of comfort. The staff were very friendly and helpful, organising a ticket to an exhibition for me and suggesting tours. I wish I could have stayed longer!

The Ulisse Hostel is a delightful hotel at one end of the main road that leads to the main town square, about a 10 minute walk past shops and restaurants. A perfect base to explore the area.
The staff are polite and attentive. The rooms are massive and comfortable. this is definitely not what we would think of as a hostel, more like a 4 star hotel. I would highly recommend it.

At the risk of sounding like a marketing brochure for the Ulisse and its excellent staff, I would like to recommend the hotel unreservedly (and it is a hotel - the name really does not do the place justice). The staff were exceptionally friendly, kind and helpful. The room (we had a quadruple room for my wife and I and our 9 and 11 year olds) was spacious, clean (and cleaned daily, with fresh towels), nicely furnished and with those little hotel extras like a hairdrier (which wasn't even mentioned in the brochure). On the first floor faciing the small inner courtyard the room was completely quiet. Breakfast, so often a disappointment in European hotels, was excellent with deliicous (what appeared to be) home made cakes and a good cold seletion of other breakfast staples. The location of the hotel is also excellent; at the end of the main drag it is out of the way enough to be quiet but central enough that in two minutes walk you're the cute little side streets that give Sorrento its character. (*My only "notes" would be that if you wanted to swim you would need to consider whether the opening hours suited your swimming habits; there is no view to speak of; and the tv choice in the room (also not mentioned in the brochure) is limited to Italian - but you're in Sorrento - why would you been watching tv!?). All this for a truly excellent price. If we go back to Sorrento I wouldn't consider staying anywhere else.

Room Tip: First floor on the inside courtyard worked well for us.

We have just come to the end of a 5 day break here & the Ulisse Deluxe Hostel has been a perfect base for us & great value.
It's easy to walk to from the train station (10 minute walk) turn left & go through the main square down the Corso Italia & turn right down some steps just after the hospital.
The staff are very helpful & friendly. The rooms are clean & comfortable, free wifi, lovely bathroom with fresh towels every day & miniature soap/shampoo/bubble bath. Hairdryers in the bathroom.
Plenty of places to eat nearby delicious food make sure you try the spaghetti a la vongole so delicious ! Breakfast in the Ulisse is €10 per day however there are lovely cake/coffee/tea shops nearby or supermarkets there is a fridge in your room. You can buy 1 litre of wine for €1.60 in the supermarket near the train station (on your left as you come out)
Sorrento is beautiful lovely people, beautiful shops & walks around the town.
We did a day trip to Capri from Sorrento port €30 return adults €20 return children. You can find the port down steps from the piassa Tasso (main square). Capri is beautiful you can get buses around the island €1.80 per person per journey. Definitely try a boat trip we got one for €20 each & the guy was so funny we really enjoyed it & it was beautiful we went inside the grottos. In Capri port there is a great shop to buy beer €1.50 prosecco €2 cans of drink & water €1 walk past the cafés to the left for a few moments & you will find it as the drinks can be really expensive in the cafés. Make sure you get the bus up to Ana Capri while you are there it's beautiful.
Another day we got the bus along the Amalfi coast to Positano & Amalfi (so so beautiful) amazing views make sure you sit on the right hand side of the bus. €4.10 return per person & you can get on & off as many times as you like that day.
Definately do a day trip on the boat to Ischia €40 return for adults €20 return for children. Once there get a taxi to the Poseidon park & beach €25 & arrange for the taxi man to pick you up again to take you back to the port (we tried getting the bus back to cut costs but it was a nightmare definitely get the taxi!). We sat on the beach til 1pm & got a back massage from a Thai lady for 5euros each, we took a packed lunch & ate that on the beach & there is a Italian guy there selling delicious fruit. At 1pm you can get in the park on a half day pass €27 adults €13.50 children. The kids have their own pool area & the adults can take it in turns to visit the jacuzzis & natural volcanic hot spring pools built in to the cliff side so so amazing, beautiful & relaxing. Take towels with you & you have to keep your hair covered so take your shower caps from the hostel or you can buy swimming caps €2.50 each from the shop there. Next time I go I'm going to take turbie towels from the pound shop in England ! This place is more relaxing than any spa I have been to in England & so so beautiful it's heaven. The ferry to ischia from Sorrento is only on weekdays & it only runs once a day, it leaves 9.30am from Sorrento & 17.25 from Ischia to come back.
Beautiful beautiful place & we will definitely come back & stay at the Ulisse Deluxe Hostel again :)

This is not a hostel in the UK understanding of the word at all. The room we booked was large and very comfortable. We found the fridge to keep our bottled water and lemoncello cool. The TV didn't have any english speaking channels that we could find but hey we were on holiday so why would we need that?

The bathroom was large and clean, dispite putting the towels to dry on the rack over the bath they were changed daily which was great for us. The bath seemed to have a jaccuzzi which didn't work, the shower was great, but a bath was not viable because the water was not hot enough.

Breakfast was normal continental breakfast of cold meats and cheeses, bread, cakes, fruit and yoghurt.

Room Tip: First floor room was great, it had its own balcony which was a sun trap and was very quiet.

Our stay at the Ulisse Deluxe Hostel was terrific. We arranged for a quad room and were very pleasantly surprised to find ourselves in a two bedroom two bath "suite" that served our needs beautifully. The location of the hotel with respect to accessing the heart of Sorrento was superb, our bedroom(s) were clean and very comfortable and the staff addressed all of my family's needs and questions with courtesy and kindness. We learned of the Ulisse through friends that raved about their stay there a few years earlier. They were not wrong and we were not disappointed.
