“Comfortable, Great Value, Luxury on a Budget”
Reviewed 23 July 2009

Although there appeared to be rooms to accomodate hostel stays, our triple room was definitely not a hostel style room. The hotel saves energy by keeping many hall lights off and charging you for plugging in the mini fridge. The room was quite clean, except for a white stain on the comforter of one of our beds :o The A/C was excellent and the beds very comfortable. The staff were friendly and the location great in little Sorrento. Breakfast was not included, but only 5 euros each person (slightly disappointing in variety).

Highly recommended.

Not sure why these guys call themselves a Hostel, its a proper 3 star hotel. The rooms are nice and big, but lack a view. There is a modern spa/leuisure center with swimming pool next doors, have to pay separate for using it. The location is good, a short walk from the charming old part of Sorrento. The only thing I lacked was a view.

My wife and I traveled to Sorrento with our adult daughter who suffers with MS and is almost totally disabled. Our stay on 9 June at the Ulisse could not have been better or more comfortable. The room was spacious, including the bathroom facilities more than adequate to accommodate a wheelchair. The beds were comfortable and the air conditioning perfect. As for the staff, they could not have been more friendly and helpful. A special shout out for the managers, Chiara and Claudia who are simply very professional , competent, and charming. My only heartburn is with the “Hostel” title that may lead one to think it’s less than a hotel when in reality it’s a great hotel with very modest rates. The city center and port are within walking distance as are many fine restaurants. Having worked at the US Embassy in Rome for 15 years I did considerable traveling throughout Italy and have stayed at many hotels of all classes. The Ulisse rates as one of the best experiences and would highly recommend this hotel for both business and pleasure travel.

On a side note, at the recommendation of the hotel staff we dined at “The 5 Di Leva Sisters” restaurant located at the port area near the Ulisse. It was a great dining experience that just made the trip all that more special, especially for out physically challenged daughter.

My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights and found out from the locals that this establishment was built to be a hotel but they couldnt get a hotel licence because there were too many hotels in Sorrento so they became a hostel instead. Because it is a hostel, they can only charge hostel prices and anyone that finds this place is EXTREMELY LUCKY as this is a great place to stay!

I dont know how anyone could say this hotel/hostel is far away from the train station. We are a middle aged couple and we travelled with heavy back packs and it would not be more than 500 to 600 metres away and a flat walk at that with no hills to climb. If you walk right to the end of the main shopping street then turn right, it is just down the road on your left. A little hard to see because it sits under a car park (sounds horrible but its ok) and the sign is not easy to see.

The rooms are HUGE and look like plush 4 star with marbled floors and a large equally plush bathroom. The walk down to Marina Granda takes 15 mins at most and is a leisurely stroll back up (not too strenuous) and has quite a few lovely restaurants. Dont expect to go swimming around here - eeewww black dirty sand and water full of rubbish. The main street is only 200 metres away and Ulisses is far enough away to be nice and quiet. The port is also easy walking and if you can handle a couple of flights of stairs (if I can then anyone can!) its not far away at all.

The staff on reception were exeptionally helpful and couldnt fault them.

This place was a wonderful find and we would no doubt stay here again and recommend this to anyone travelling to Sorrento.

For 35 Euros per person per night, you can't get a better deal in Sorrento. The hotel lobby is very nice, and the hotel room itself was big. The bathroom was enormous and covered in orange marble. Our room was on the bottom floor, so we had no view, but for the price I wasn't expecting one. The room was clean but had a strong musty (like wet towels) smell.
Breakfast is five euros extra per person, and I'm not sure that it's worth the extra money. No espresso, and their watered-down coffee tastes like sludge. Cakes and cereals were ok.
If you're taking the train in Sorrento, be aware that it's a very long walk to the hotel - you might want to get a taxi. We found the hotel in the Rick Steves guide, and he says that the hotel is less than 100 meters from the train station, but that is WAY off.
For dinner, I'd recommend walking down the hill to Marina Grande, and going to Trattoria de Emilia. Cheap and delicious food (especially the seafood), and an incredible view.
Overall, a decent hotel, especially for the price.

I really enjoyed my two night stay at Ulisse. It's a hidden gem...literally. Finding it was a challenge, but worth it. Very friendly staff, huge and beautiful lobby, my room was basic but great. We thought the air wasn't working and someone was up to look at it within minutes (turns out, the window was open which prevented the a/c from coming on...many hotels in Europe are much more environmentally friendly than ours in the U.S...to my surprise). This place had internet although they don't pro-rate so make sure you have a lot to do on the computer.

Room was overlooking a courtyard, so extremely quiet. Booking here is a wise choice.
