The Villa Serena was the perfect place for us. Just 3 kms. outside of Sorrento, it was relaxing and convenient. Awesome ocean views, sound of the waves lulling us to sleep at night with great restaurants nearby. Lorenzo and Maria, the owners, were so helpful in getting us settled and answering our many questions. There were only two of us, but this home easily sleeps 7.
They have 5 rental units in total, so if this one is booked ask about another, all are close to the water.

I had wanted to visit Sorrento for years and finally had the opportunity last September. After I researched the types of places to stay in this beautiful area (hotel, apartment, villa, etc.), I decided that renting a villa was definitely the best choice for me.

I searched the web to find a place that would hopefully meet my needs. Since I was staying in Sorrento for over 2 weeks, my list of "must haves" included things that would satisfy both aesthetic and practical requirements. I wanted breathtaking views, private beach access, a villa with a modern kitchen, air conditioning, and a clothes washer. After reviewing the location and features for Villa Grecale on the La Rosa dei Venti website (www.larosadeventi.com) I decided to stay there.

I am happy to report that my expectations were far exceeded. Villa Grecale featured the coldest of air conditioning during the warmer days, fabulous memory foam mattresses to sink into at night, a sparking kitchen with what looked to be brand-new appliances (washing machine and dishwasher too!), private bedrooms, each with its own bathroom and access to the balcony overlooking the sea, and last, but certainly not least, spectacular views of Naples and Capri.

Needless to say, I was thrilled with my choice and plan on returning next year to Villa Grecale. For me, it truly was heaven on earth!

Returning to southern Italy after a lot of years away, I was looking for a place that combined sun, sea, every comfort, and calm (hardest of all to find at the sea during warm weather months in Italy). When a friend recommended renting an apartment near Sorrento and sent photos, I decided to try the Villa Grecale at La Rosa dei Venti (www.larosadeventi.com).

We arrived on a rare cloudy Sunday and drove a few miles out of Sorrento along a winding road high above the water. After turning down a narrow road that descended the cliff, all of a sudden, there was the sea right below us with Capri, Naples and the islands off Naples in the distance. We found that the cliff was etched with tree-shaded lanes, turned down one, and arrived at the gate of our apartment. A run down shaded steps brought us to a shiny, splendid white apartment surrounded by a broad terracotta, tree-studded terrace on all four sides. Entering the Villa Grecale, we found a huge, very comfortable living/dining room with a fireplace and entertaiment center, completely equipped new kitchen including a washer/dryer, and four bedrooms, each with its own brand new private bath and exit to the terrace. The terrace overlooking the sea was furnished with a table in case we wanted to have a meal outside, and there was ample space for spreading out and and tanning, reading or talking on sunny days. At the corner of our terrace, there were steps leading down to a tiny beach and the sea. Another path wound from the beach to the nearby harbor of Massa Lubrense. From our terrace we could watch ships leaving the various ports of Naples and the hovercraft connecting Capri with Sorrento and Naples. Best of all, when night fell, the only sounds were lapping water below us and birds swooping above us as morning neared.

With Sorrento, Capri, Naples, the Amalfi Coast and everything in between very easily accessible by car, it was hard to pull ourselves away from the paradise we had rented. We had the option of walking or driving to a nearby places to dine in excellent restaurants or purchase groceries, or we could even ask the owners, Maria and Lorenzo, to hire a local chef to prepare wonderful dishes for us in our own villa. Maria and Lorenzo had a vast store of suggestions for just the right kind of excursion to suit our mood of the day, whether it was a trip to Capri and a special swim there, a little-known place along the Amalfi Coast that merited our attention, or visits by night to presentations of Sorrento's music and dance.

For the very reasonable rent on the Villa Grecale, we got paradise! We created memories and made friends that will stay with us forever. We're looking forward to returning to Sorrento, and Maria and Lorenzo's Villa Grecale is definitely place we’ll want to call home.
